***NCAA TOURNAMENT 2ND ROUND - DUKE VS YALE OFFICIAL GAMEDAY THREAD***

We looked like we could win the championship again in the 1st half but then we played the second half to settle ourselves down:). Its much nicer than going home though.

I better save some for the next game. It's been a down year but to make the sweet 16 is pretty special. I'm proud of these guys even though I didn't act like it for a while today.

Oh and by the way shout out to the Yale clown who was throwing up the two middle fingers on camera. Did anybody else catch that by chance or was it just me? He was wearing a santas beard or something. It sure looked like he was throwing two middle fingers up in the air.

Win and move on

Horrendous non coaching during second half

Matt jones is just not good

Poor game by marshall

Thornton has to be in vs press

I definitely disagree with you about Marshall having a poor game. He made big plays that made a big difference. It's not all about the stat sheet.

Already stated about two pages ago

Sheesh. We won and get to keep playing so that's all that matters especially In the NCAAT.

But man if you wouldn't want to watch the second half of a game ever, you know something horrible went on. W/e onward we go!

Yep. And I felt like doing the same thing at that point in time.

We won and I'm happy but still pissed. Yale showed me some guts. Even with the big lead at half I expected Yale to make a run and play well but still thought we would win by at least 12-15 points but I didn't expect this. OFC

But look at it this way. Say we were up a deuce at half and won by seven. For all of this hand wringing, other than late, we led UNCW by never less than 5 after we took a lead. We never led by less than 7 until really late against Yale. It is all about runs. We went on a big run in the first half and they could not answer. Vice-versa in the second half. After they cut it to 7, we answered by righting the ship and pushing it to 12. Ingram made some huge FT's down the stretch.

We do not have 2001 or 2015 where we have a big lead, we can continue to shove it down someone's throats. Plus, we came off an up-tempo game against UNCW. Finally, we as fans (hell, even the coaches) do not want to see this, but we got some very valuable experience today we might not have gotten if we win by 20.

We played like young teams do. We look awesome when everything goes our way but a little pressure and we fold up like a cheap lawn chair. I actually like the start of the second half going to Ingram with his mismatch but he just can't seem to finish plays in the paint. He missed several point blank shots. We do sorely miss Jefferson for rebounding but it is what it is. We still playing and that's the bottom line.

Quit whining about the refs....if possible, you're actually worse than UNC fans.

Please point out where I am wrong? They whine in general. I pointed to specific calls, as well as Plums third and fourth being BS (since when was being taller than a guy a foul for his third. His fourth technically was a foul, but if that is called, refs missed a lot on Yale in 2nd half).

I just think refs are awful and consistent in general, and they did not have a good second half.

Whew! Hey guys, look at the bright side, it could be us going home for good. You can say what you want, I still love these kids (even though I am aging fast). :) Another lesson learned, and don't sell them short for the next round.
Oregon is for real, but they still have to get to the next round too! Now, let's enjoy this one, let the kids get some rest, and let Coach K have a week to prepare for next week (nobody does that better). Survive and advance, baby!
Now you know what time it is: HAPPY HOUR - The most important Meal of the Day!!!!!!! ;)
Go Duke!!

I'm telling you Duke put themselves under some incredible pressure by blowing that huge lead, but they also showed some heart by holding on...which wasn't easy with the entire arena screaming Yale on.

OFC

Spot on!! We folded like the ND game but we WON this one, that shows growth.. We play better in close games and from here on out it should be in them. We are in good shape and (I believe) will make a deeper run. Let's go!!

I think Duke just maxed out their season with this team: I'll take a sweet sixteen with this squad and a chance at presumably Oregon. However this ends, it's been a ride and they have gotten farther than the 2012 and 2014 teams, which were seeded higher. They've also gotten as far as the Kyrie team, so this is nothing to take for granted. Go Duke!

Well Koach knew we wouldn't win this game a long time ago!!! Lol
Why are you always trying to start something with me...I said I thought we would lose to Baylor...Did we play Baylor today??

I picked Duke to win today in the game thread..what's your problem??

I can be your Huckleberry if you really want to continue.

Yeah, I'm curious to see how Duke does against Oregon/St. Joe's with four-five days of prep/rest. Could make for an interesting game.

it almost seems like the worst thing that can happen to us is to get a big lead sometimes.

When it's close and tight we seem to keep our focus more..everyone with the ball in their hands late is young and they seem to make bad/careless plays when we are up big. I think they just let up mentally...a sign of youth.

I agree with ODD...this time we where able to fight through a bit, so some growth from the ND game I think.

They will learn from this..the question is can they learn enough in a week??

Stressful second half, but I know one thing: there 337 D1 basketball teams, and after Sunday 321 of them will be done for the year. Duke is not one of them.

Exactly. We are taking for granted that this team has no business to accomplish what they have after Amile got hurt. Beat UNC at UNC, beat Louisville, beat Virginia. When they went "oh, Duke has loss 4-of-7 heading into tournament," I was thinking 1. One was at Louisville where we gave them all they could handle, would have been a 3-4 seed, vs UNC by 4 to a one seed, at a nine seed, and to a ND team when Duke was playing its second game in as many days,

Hard to remember, but this is all gravy here on in. We played up to our seed.

A win is a win is a win, right?

I don't feel great right now with how we played that second half, but we're playing next weekend. That helps to ease the burden a bit.

Now I have to go change into my Providence shirt. ;)

You think HOF Coach Roy Williams is gonna have a bunch of Friar fans escorted out. "Don't miss it Kennedy" . "I want those 5 fans out of here says HOF Coach Roy Williams ." Upon second notice they are all Tar heel fans. OFC

You are spinning. We almost lost this game with a 27 point lead by taking a little time off the clock or to be honest stall ball. It just ain't working for Duke and to blame the refs is Tar Heelish. OFC

Duke had two drastically different halves, but they actually covered the spread. People who do this for a living thought that game would be close.

Sorry guys, my 3 month old son threw up on his Duke shirt at halftime and had to change. I was pretty nervous about it at the time, and rightfully so!

There were some very curious rebounding calls, especially considering what Matt Jones fouled out on, but Yale was allowed to do on the tip-in to cut it to 3.

If you looked at the final boxscore just looking at the final totals, Duke had a good day. There high was really high, but there bad was very bad. Do I wish it was a little more consistent, absolutely. This is a young team, and inconsistency will happen (yes we were young last year, but they had a lot more talent and Quinn Cook). The ND game, the Irish made that big run and Duke did nothing to stem the tide. EVERYTHING was on Yale's side in for 7-8 minutes in that second half, but the Blue Devils never let the lead slip below 7 until the very end of the game (and even then, never got less than 3).

They made their FT's in clutch time. They handled the press like the last 7-8 minutes. They blew a big lead like ND, but they never really were completely out of control. This team showed a lot of heart that quite frankly we would not have seen had Duke cruised to a 15-20 point win. So while everyone is spouting "survive and advance" and doom and gloom, excuse me for being a little the glass is half full.

If you want all the negatives, you can certainly get that from everyone else.
