I was shocked!!! Shocked, I say! And I am rarely shocked, Ted Roof was hired as Oklahoma's new defensive coordinator
Elko or Gattis, please. Garrett would be a Coach K hire. Love K to pieces, but this is Nina's hire. OFCNone of us has met either of the candidates nor heard their vision of the future of Duke football.
Based on my knowledge of Jason Garrett, I would be skeptical of his vision for Duke football considering his failures in the NFL lately and his lack of knowledge of the college game. Just my opinion.
Now we will see if Dabo can do anything other that recruit.how much better has the coastal gotten coaching wise in the last few days?
VA TECH hires brent pry the dc from penn st
MIAMI hires oregon head coach cristobal to come back home and gets clemsons AD
UVA hires a 2 time national champion oc elliot from clemson
DUKE hires texas a&m dc mike elko who was killing it in the sec
THE BAR HAS BEEN RAISED AND WAR HAS BEEN DECLARED
ps how about clemson losing their OC, DC and AD. couldnt happen to a better group of people
I share your excitement, Hart. Just imagine having a team with qualified coordinators and assistants, a team led by a DEFENSIVE guru, a team not afraid to make situational adjustments. So happy for our kids, especially those on defense who, up to now, had no real guidance. Can't wait to find out who the new OC and DC will be. OFCMost excited I have been about Duke football since '18! This was a home run, and like @surfdevil I am ecstatic! Mike Elko is a DEFENSIVE GENIUS, and Tx A&M fans are CRYING at their loss on message boards tonite! I know, I went over and read the comments- Duke FB fans, theres reason to be excited tonite! Props to Duke AD Nina King too!!!!

I really hope this brings the ACC up in football. There is no reason we cannot have good football and basketball in this conference , other than two teams. And , of course I hope this really brings Duke football back .how much better has the coastal gotten coaching wise in the last few days?

Amen DI!!! Elko has plenty on his plate, but I certainly think the 44 year old is up to the challenge! Player development, game plan adjustments, etc as you reference- I feel like we're finally getting out of The Old Stone Age of Football we've been locked into the last few years! OFCI share your excitement, Hart. Just imagine having a team with qualified coordinators and assistants, a team led by a DEFENSIVE guru, a team not afraid to make situational adjustments. Thanks, Surf. OFCso per our committed players tweeting it seems like savion riley is the only one we are losing. looks like vandy on wednesday for him. our qb commit belin looks he might not sign on wednesday because he wants to see who we get as oc which is very understandable. all the other kids are saying they are signing on wednesday.
Double that @surfdevil!!! Good info. I am sure @ConorONeill will have some great insights from tomorrow's introductory 11am presser on campus. The event is open to the public, and I hope we give Coach Elko a nice turnout! Thanks, Surf. OFC
Conor we look forward!!! OFCI will indeed be there. Meant to post something here earlier about the presser being open to the public.
I'll have at least one story up tomorrow.
I wonder what his next move will be? OFC
Sky same here! Wow! @ConorONeill great question at presser today! I really LOVE Coach Elko!!! We should call our little group of diehards here "The Elks Club!!" This guy has "FOOTBALL COACH, I MEAN BUSINESS" written all over him! What a passion for the game!!!I wonder what his next move will be? OFC
I can't imagine JMU was his only option, but the academic side of this really throws a wrench in his options.I wonder what his next move will be? OFC
Conor could he possibly return? I mean could it have just been an academic issue with the transfer possibly? OFCI can't imagine JMU was his only option, but the academic side of this really throws a wrench in his options.
DI lets go sign up!!!!! OFCNina King interviewed current players and asked them what they were looking for in a new coach. Their number one priority was "an Innovative Coach". That kind of validates all of the many complaints expressed herein for at least 2 years about the utter predictability of Cut's schemes. Our guys were going into games knowing that the opponents knew almost as much about what we were going to do as they did. Their frustration is finally over, and they have hope and optimism again. LET'S GO, DUKE!!!! OFC
This is a good point -- he has graduated, I know that much.I thought Gunnar already graduated from Duke. Maybe he couldn't get into the grad school he wanted to attend?
I noticed that comment as well. I was really happy to see that he didn’t try to hedge his bets, or our expectations, by playing the rebuild theme. We may not be playing for the ACC championship next year, but based solely on Coach Elko’s remarks, I think we should be a bowl team next year. I agree with Hart2 Chesson, this is going to be a busy, fun and intriguing off season!Btw, story from today.
I'll have a column done ... sometime soon, likely tomorrow. It'll be about something mentioned in the story -- how this is not going to be a similar rebuilding project that Elko had a hand in for three years at Wake Forest.
They also said that they wanted a coach who could develop players. The clear inference is that they do not beleive they were being developed very well under Cut. Hart, you and I are down with that. OFCDI lets go sign up!!!!! OFC
You got that right DI. We've got smart kids. They knew they were being vastly under coached! Thats about to change! OFCThey also said that they wanted a coach who could develop players.
