Lol, Liftee maybe its just the excitement at least of someone other than Chase Brice at qb.....

Great report, Hart. Thanks. What concerns me the most is your appraisal of the offensive line. We need a whole lot of improvement there, for the simple reason that with an undersized, improperly conditioned line, we will not be able to sustain drives. That particular problem last year left our defense on the field for far too long, resulting in repeated blowouts. Even a good defensive line can only give so much. I just cannot find it in myself to be optimistic in the face of stark reality. Let's hope there will be some changes which will lead to an actual running game and adequate time for our QB's to complete passes. OFC

DI thx my friend!! Yeah the O-line is definitely a source of concern, and you duly noted how it led to blowout city last year(combined of course with an inept qb and Cut calling plays). However w/o that beef in the OL you're pretty much doomed from the start.

One piece of GOOD NEWS I left out DI: As far as I know, 1st string Center and Ohio State grad transfer Jack Wohlabaugh RETURNS!!! He played very well in '19, and missed the entire season last year due to injury.Jack could really provide leadership and stability along the offensive front.Good point DI, and lets hope our injuries don't take the toll like last season. Hopefully @surfdevil checks in soon with more fb info.

Wohlabaugh is great news, BUT where are the tackles and guards? And where are the subs? We need a group that does not have to play 2/3's of thegame. OFC

Totally agree...I have not studied the depth chart in detail. I was really basing much of it on Saturday. The O-Line looked eerily similar to last season unfortunately. You really have to question the strength and conditioning program of Duke Football.

In Cut's last press conference, he said this: "Zac Roper's a great football coach.... I can turn it over to him...He has coached running backs, tight ends, quarterbacks. I mean, he can coach it all." Boy, is Duke lucky to have such a talent. I'm worried that Alabama or Michigan or Clemson may try to steal him from us.;)

DI, now thats worrisome stuff......OFC

So we may suck even more?
GAAP, I think we will benefit at qb from a change- (anyone is better than Chase Brice). However I have zero confidence in Cut or this staff to expect any real tangible improvement. Cut knows he has two seasons left on his contract, and hes going to try and ride it out with his same old tired playbook....

BANG BANG
first commit for 22
chandler rivers cb 5'10'' 175 lbs
lots of good offers
duke, colorado, houston, kansas, memphis, miss st, missouri, ole miss, smu, tennessee and utah for biggies
lots of mid level teams also
good start
INDEED SURF! I was pleased. Looks like in the end we beat out Mississippi St for Rivers services. Impressive credentials. Its still VERY EARLY in the game, and hes the type of kid we have to keep other schools from poaching from us before signing day (December).I would say if a 'Bama scooped him up late to fill a void, Rivers automatically rises to FOUR STARS.

Hart, you have an uncanny ability to explain why last year's disaster was really the fault of only one person. OFC
DI thx, but Cut just makes it easy to figure why we're so bad......The same old tired plays, lack of knowledgeable assts, etc, etc.... OFC

deon jackson to colts.
4 draft picks and 3 udfa signings. 7 players to the nfl after last year.
people saying we dont have the talent to compete are just wrong. hart2chesson is right in that our play book is vanilla AND we made a horrible choice to bring in brice to be the qb last year. just the wrong guy to run the read/option offense. the grass isnt always greener

What makes it worse is that several players were good enough to transfer to the top football schools which is another indication of talent.

On the positive side, every time Duke football was mentioned at the draft, that's good free publicity.

Surf thx, I looked at the overall number of picks taken by ACC schools, and whats even more glaring to me is comparison. Duke had 4 players taken in draft, BC-2, Ga Tech-2, NCSU-1. We lost to all three schools in '20.

I think I mentioned this last season, but in the recruiting rankings, we are doing as well as or better than several teams we have been losing to. Our recruiting has not been great but the results on the field are, unfortunately, worse.

been on 247 for days. he wasnt a starter in the d backfield but played really well on all specials teams. also in the duke football thread on DBR. i will fix my lead headline because i meant special teams stud not db stud

Been kind of quiet on this thread, so I will see if I can get something started. As we all know, Duke finished tied for last in the ACC last year. We scored the third fewest points and gave up 59 more points than the next worst defensive team. We lost four draft picks. As I see it, there are only 3 teams which we have a reasonable possibility (not probability) of beating this coming year: Syracuse, Charlotte, and, maybe, Wake. So 2 - 10 or 3 - 9 seems probable. Glass half full posters please explain why this seems overly pessimistic. OFC

Because we should beat NC A&T. If we don’t, they should disband the program. But 4-8 isn’t exactly dynasty inspiring...
