duke football news

man there is a large and highly rated group of visiting recruits this weekend.
Out of curiosity: Does somebody else have a full list out, or are you going by confirmed visitors as they've been reported?

We always find a way to lose this game. Maybe our new coach can change our luck
This is what scares me king, and for an old geezer like me it goes back to the 70s (Mike McGee years). Time and again we found a myriad of ways to lose close gridiron contests to the Cheaters.

Nothing could be better than a DECISIVE WIN, especially where the zebras have no effect on the outcome!!

Conor it appears the account of UNC from their beat guy(his mindset), gives Duke an excellent chance of winning. Does he perhaps know some locker room "issues" we're not privvy to? OFC
Don't think that has much of anything to do with it. After the leaks of Mack's post-game speech last week, I'd be shocked if anybody in media has heard much of anything in terms of "locker room issues." They've bunkered down, at least from everything I know.

Duke is playing a team that just gave up 70 points on its homefield to a G5 team. All of a sudden, in one game, all of the fears of what Mack Brown's team would look like without a future NFL QB at the helm, and seemingly with the failings of a third defensive coordinator in his 5-plus seasons, the reality of that program being dangerously back to where it was with the on-field product it had at the end of Larry Fedora's time came into focus.

That said, @kingbluedevil is right: Everything about what Duke has said this week is they're preparing for the best version possible of UNC.

Inside carolina has not interviewed any players Mack shut that down this week. First time this has happened. On another note I've been impressed with the Hokies tonight. The Gosnell brothers start on offense and played high school close by in Pilot Mountain.
Tough loss for the hokies hope Duke has a better ending against the cheats

Thank you Conor for the detail. I agree with king as well. We will get UNC's best shot. In fact, I halfway thought last week t h e heels were looking past JMU to this huge rivalry game. They know we have taken them to the wire the last two years.

One area UNC seems to exploit us is explosive plays. We need to slow down their run game, and limit those passes where their fast receivers go for huge YACs.

One point perhaps overlooked is the preparation Manny Diaz will give this game. He despises Mack Brown(Mack fired him at Texas as DC at Texas in '13), and a fire rages in Manny's belly to whip Mack's butt!!!

The two had a somewhat contentious handshake at midfield after the UNC-Miami tilt(45-42 UNC in '19). Mack kept talking, and Manny obviously wanted to get away.

However more than anything Manny wants this one for his team. Duke hasn't beaten UNC since '18 (Fedora's last year), and no one on this Duke roster has tasted victory over our arch rival. Mack has won like 12 in a row now over us in his two stints down the road.

It's time. We'll somehow find a way to win this game. This old man wishes he could suit up!!

Hard to quit reflecting on this one. Celebrating with my favorite cold beverage. 🍺 🍻 🍺!!!! I know we have to refocus on our "business trip" to play a tough GA Tech squad, but the sweetness of yesterday will linger a long, long time!!

Anyone know anything about the guys who got injured? Especially Howard, he's been great so far this season.

Hart you mentioned the Mike McGee years. You and I remember the 1971 team that started great but faltered due to injuries and lack of depth. I don't want to see that happen this season. I think we're deeper this year but not if guys keep going down, especially LBs.

OK. Time to refocus. Beating the Cheats is always wonderful, no matter the sport. But beating them in football is expecially wonderful. However, let us not lose sight of the fact that one week earlier they gave up 70 points to a non-FBS team. So, viewing this game outside of its UNCheat context, tells me that we have yet to be tested by a quality opponent. The GT game should be instructive. While I feel better about our progress after the UNCheat game, I have not seen enough yet to feel confident about our chances against really good teams. A 2 touchdown margin aganst GT would turn me into a glass-half-full guy. OFC

I feel good about 5-0 and our win against UCONN is looking better after they had big win. To beat carolina when they seriously needed the win was big. We not going undefeated but I'm all in if we don't win another one this year. Elko couldn't beat the cheats

God bless both you guys, and observations!! I wanted to respond to both because they're so on target albeit in differing ways.

DI you are right. Despite the EUPHORIC HIGH of kicking that RAM ASS Saturday, we must turn our attention to Georgia Tech. They have turned things around down there, and have a solid program again since the firing of Geoff Collins(ironically the new UNC DC who's D we pushed all over the field in 2nd half). This should be a better barometer of where we are.

It's on the road, we're a 8.5 point 'dog, and the Yellow Jackets are WELL-COACHED. I just hope we have come down from the clouds, and the chinstraps are buckled up tight DI!! We must be ready. Also, Star Thomas has suddenly become a marked man. Will establishing the run be more difficult?

On the other hand king I absolutely know what you mean!! Mack had won 13 straight over us(dating back to his 1st stint at CHC). We got the bell back, we're 5-0, it's hard not to feel like we've won a mini- title!!! Lol...

Lift, I remember walking around school pumping my chest out with my Duke stuff on!! We were 4-0, and McGee had us like 14th nationally.

Unfortunately the guys started falling like dominoes to the injury bug, and we dropped like bad stock. One silver lining of good news: Starting LB Nick Morris has a very good chance of being ready this week. Fingers crossed.

Also,Original starting RB Jacquez Moore actually injured his other foot on his only carry Saturday. Despite this, Manny thinks we get him back pretty soon. Haven't heard anything on Howard's status (it didn't look promising), was he playing TE Saturday, trading off with Dalmolin? Geez, we have to keep Nicky healthy!! TE is about to become an endangered spot.

You also mentioned LB. Seems we have fairly decent depth, but another loss and the bleeding would really start. Stay healthy Devils. We have a CHANCE to make it a special year!!!

Manny said Howard returned in the second half. I didn't see him out there. Must have missed it. That's good news, as is getting Morris back.

I do think we are deeper than the 1971 team was. For one thing, we won't be having a defensive back playing QB anytime soon! The D line seems to have gotten stronger by the 4th quarter so they must be switching out enough to keep people fresh. That's encouraging.

If Maalik is more accurate and is willing to take the short stuff along with the home run ball, I think we can stay with Tech and then it becomes a game of turnovers, TFL and big plays.

I would take a compromise of Leonard and Murphy, meaning a QB who could, if needed, call a run for himself, but not be someone who is going to lead the team in rushing, and who could run out of trouble. Besides Murphy’s tendency to throw rockets on every pass, he is simply unable to extend a play. If he doesn’t get the pass off in 3.5 seconds, he goes down.

I do not know of a QB in the NFL right now who doesn't have some mobility. Even the older guys like Aaron Rodgers can move around in the pocket when necessary. I don't know what Maalik gains by being openly opposed to running. As has been said before, there's a reason he's at Duke and Riley is starting at Notre Dame.
