It'll be interesting to see if Maye maintains his stats with a different OC or whether he'll have a sophomore slump... regardless I think Riley will be right there for CPY next year, especially if we have another 8 or 9 win season.
As far as Maye goes, I think the new Cheaters OC will be a figurehead. Maye and/or Mack will tell him what scheme/system to run. It'll be interesting to see if Maye maintains his stats with a different OC or whether he'll have a sophomore slump... regardless I think Riley will be right there for CPY next year, especially if we have another 8 or 9 win season.
Surf I would be GREATLY SURPRISED if we didn't have more departures. I think your logic is quite sound: look for more after the bowl game. Obviously Elko did a super job, and program morale is quite high, but kids are always looking for more PT.So as I visit various threads the common things I seem to see are we have talked with wr, lb,db and oline kids so far for transfers. It seems we want 1 more explosive wr, obviously 2 or 3 more oline guys, 1 more db and a lb. I have not seen anything yet on dline contacts but it is still early and who knows what the needs will be. We still have not had a single player who did not walk declare for the portal which is kind of crazy. I think maybe a couple of guys might be waiting for after the bowl experience. It has been a few years and who can blame them.
Hearing a flip and a transfer, so figure one has to be York. You're right surf, FUN CITY!!! OFCSo Elko has tweeted out twice today. That means two commits. Maybe york and a transfer? God it is fun being a duke football fan these days. this week should be fun.
As much as I hate to admit it I believe Maye is the real deal and he will continue to be an outstanding college QB. That does not mean we can't beat him. We had him beat this season. I feel Riley is also an outstanding QB and will play in the NFL. We will just have to see how next season plays out for cheater u. Losing their OC is big. They had an outstanding offense last year. I hear they have some players leaving. If so they will have some coming in. I don't fear cheater u at all. I think mack brown is a sub par coach that has always been able to recruit and hire good assistants. He's dirty and always has been but the game has passed him by. first one is in. miami db Al Blades announces his transfer to Duke. yes he is one of those Blades. he is going to play safety. he was high 4 star kid in high school. 6'1'' 190lbs. he has 2 years of left depending on how next year goes.
I agree about the bigger DB’s. The trend is toward big receivers who win the proverbial “50-50 ball”, and we’ve been short (no pun intended) in that area for a while. Excellent addition! Can he play December 28? 😉I like the bigger DB's, a lot!
I wonder who the lead recruiter is. Does it go by position, or is there a lead recruiter? There's a lot I don't know about football recruiting (because Duke was never relevant in recruiting before).
Quite a get, and I think this pleasantly surprised everyone! Dad Bennie awesome player at the U and later for the Lions in the NFL. Great job by Elko and the staff!!! Great guy, cool sense of humor, never minced words.Sad news today. Mike Leach passes. great football mind
okay second one in
Jake Hornibrook 6'4'' 308lb OG from stanford announces his transfer commitment to duke.
started all eleven games at guard last year. started 6 games as a jr at OT. really really good pick up.
Clearly a conspiracy to keep Duke's recruiting ranking low.hey conor just curious as to why the PWO long snapper is on our commitment list? are you counting his low rating against our overall grade and ranking? we have had several other kids verbal as PWO but this is the only one that is on our list. just wondering.
Conor if anyone is entitled to a mistake, it's you. Appreciate all the articles/info you give us.Clearly a conspiracy to keep Duke's recruiting ranking low.
Honestly he's got a page because somebody on here asked why he didn't have a page. I asked another publisher if we typically made pages for PWOs and he said we could, hence I did. Poking around on some other sites, it doesn't seem like that's common ... so my mistake.
Good read. Ahead is a daunting yet exciting time for Duke football.
WOW there is a link on another site to elijahwroten65 ig account
since he has put this out i feel free to relay
a year ago today he was in a hospital bed recovering from bilateral femoral osteotomy surgery to reconstruct the alignment of his bones. he shared a picture of his lower legs and the dbl knee surgery wraps and braces. he had to spend 6 weeks in a wheelchair and then transition to crutches and relearn to walk. even worse he war in a car wreck last february that added 8 extra weeks on crutches. he then relays the lessons that he learned going through this. elijah walked on senior day and i know he is ready for the rest of his life. i really think anybody who can use ig should go and read his account. quality quality kid
I agree Lift, about the connection to our players. I think you'll see more of this under the Elko regime, because you will see less transfers. Looking forward to getting to know a fine youngster like Riley Leonard better the next 2 years. This is a great story. I feel a connection with these football players that I used to feel with Bball players when they stayed more than 9 months at Duke.
Loosely skimmed the roster and my count got to the 90s when factoring in 26 commits plus 3 transfers. There's some margin for error involved because I wasn't charting them or anything, and I probably counted at least one or two who walked for Senior Day and aren't returning.I agree Lift, about the connection to our players. Speaking of our players a question for @ConorONeill or @surfdevil. I think the NCAA roster limit is 85. Are we at that number now with the addition of transfers Purcell, Hornibrook and Blades? OFC

But I also think there will be more portal entries after the bowl game. The portal window is open until Jan. 18.
Also to @Liftee's point on Shaka Heyward: Figuring out LB is probably the top priority for Duke's defense in the offseason.
