duke football news

so a few notes on the game
riley leanord 29-41 391 yds 4 td's 1 int WOW
as much as it seemed like we struggled rushing we still had 116 yds
that is over 500 yds total offense
jaylon calhoun 11 rec 174 yds for 15.8 avg 1 td
sahmir haggins 8 rec 139 yds for 17.4 avg 2 td's not bad for a kid rivals rated a 5.4 doesnt belong at a p5 program
jordan moore 8 rec 76 yds for 9.5 avg 1 td
with these 3 and IF eli pancol comes back then we have a great start to next year

defense ends the game with 3 sacks and 4 tackles for a loss and an interception

5 kick returns for 117 yds for a 23.4 avg. 2/2 on fg's. 43.7 avg on 3 punts

just shows that we played a very good all round game

Surf that's quite a list of guys who could return next year!!!

well i think most of those guys are gone. dont forget we have 26 commits (i am not counting the pwo long snapper) coming in plus hopefully some transfers so i think they might talk with a couple of these kids but not most of them. i think OL, DL and maybe a DB or two (big corners) will be our focus. look at that list and 8 OL kids walked and only 3 coming in as freshman.

I am so proud of this team, and beyond happy for all these guys who bought into Coach Elko. Honestly, I had tears in my eyes when the game ended. It is so incredible that they turned it around in 1 season. And we have a lot of reasons to be optimistic about what lies ahead - a lot of experienced talent returning, more time for our renewed emphasis on strength/conditioning to pay dividends, and a strong recruiting class that, IMHO, is likely to get even stronger now (remember how at the beginning of the season, we were worried about whether Coach Elko could keep our prime recruits like Simmons committed? I think we’re the poachers now! And the transfer portal should be even more productive for us, now with proven success on the field). With today’s win, we’re going to face a tough opponent in a bowl, but regardless of the outcome, this was an incredibly successful season. And once again, my thanks to Conor and guys like Surf, H2C, Sky, Liftee, DI, Smash, Bleed, BlackNight, Pisgah and King for keeping (actually, remaking) the football program as relevant and worth following on this board.

I was busy yesterday, @surfdevil ... but I did post the Senior Day list on the premium board about an hour before kickoff, and posted the quoted message about 10 minutes before kickoff.

Well finally Duke got a break from the refs on that last long pass. It doesn't make up for the 2 bad calls vs. the Cheaters and I would gladly trade one of them in that game for the one yesterday. We still might have stopped them yesterday even if that penalty is called.

Now that the regular season is over I can say this without fear of jinx--very few dropped passes this year (except for the Robertson drop) and many great catches (like the Hagans one yesterday). I have to chalk it up to coaching. What else could it be?

I hope 2 of our RBs don't leave Duke and we keep at least one of the offensive lineman. The O line and defensive backfield are the areas where we need able replacements next year.

What a season!

Great point about the lack of dropped passes Lift!!! OFC

so a guy on another board did the math and with the schollies who walked and the verbals we have that our total for next year is already at 82. that leaves 3 schollies for transfer/new commits. the next wave for us will be who transfers out. i would expect 4-8 to leave the program for greener pastures so that will free up room to bring in more transfers.

Surf that's fine with me!!!

I suspect there may be more than that leaving. There may be guys who were "roster fillers" who will never play for Duke, especially if Elko's recruiting improves. I don't think Elko will run anyone off but it may become obvious to some guys that they will never see the field.

It's going to be this way for awhile. We're finally winning again!!! I remember when no one offered our staff, and who could blame 'em???
Time for Johns to be given a nice raise.
Agree! It was nice to see us throw past the line of scrimmage this year. And they became very adept at finding ways to use Jordan Moore other than as a backup QB.

so 3 duke players already to the portal. darrell harding, tony davis and rocky shelton. all 3 walked so no extra schollies yet. now that franklin is back, that leaves 2 open schollies at the moment.

so big recruiting weekend. verbals on campus this weekend
quentin ajiero
semaj turner
grayson loftis
kimari robinson

Great time to get 'em here, fresh off Wake win and 8-4 finish!! We will also be talking up our bowl trip! OFC

Really grateful for the football thread. I get a lot of info that is not known. Appreciate those who gather the info. Love being an all sport Duke fan. I'm an old fart and probably just one of two or three on this board that saw Scottie Glacken and Mike Curtis play and at the game of the great Hart to Chesson play that doomed the cheaters. Also in my younger days would go to Duke football games with Duke buddies and yell at Coach Mike McGhee for doing nothing but run the ball. Steve Jones however was a brute of a running back. Loved Mike Dunn. Very exciting player to watch. Enjoyed watching Billy Bryan also because he is a personal friend and the day Ben Bennett anounced he was coming to Duke is still the most pumped I've ever been as a Duke football fan. I've mellowed out a lot sinced those days as a fan in both football and basketball . I gave Neal McGeachey and Bucky Waters a real hard time including a lot of their players. cheater u owned us in both football and basketball in those days. Looking forward to a good Duke football product again that can contend for a division and even an ACC title and start to even things up with cheater u . We got a lot of pay back in football. Just want to
let you how much I love this football based thread. OFC

I'm a Colt fan so I loved itvp when ge played for the Colts. Still remember when he hit that fan after he picked up that football. The dufus was wearing glasses znd grinning when he picked up the ball. After Curtis hit him he wasn't grinning anymore and the glasses were gone. If you watch the video you can see the glasses go flying in the air. 😁 Didn't Curtis end up with the Redskins? OFC

This is a great thread isn't it? Good knowledgeable people (not necessarily yours truly, but others), and people who respect each other and the efforts the football program is making to improve. What would we do without Surf's inside information and Conor's great articles? and Hart bleeds Duke blue.

Thanks Lift, you're a really kind person and I appreciate the shout out. We may not be large in numbers, but we certainly all love our Duke football don't we??!!Appreciate all your contributions and loyalty to the board, and your GENUINE LOVE for Duke!!! OFC

Full disclosure on my All-ACC ballot.

All-ACC teams get released in at about 4:30 today; player/rookie of the year awards tomorrow and coach of the year on Thursday.
Gutsy column with complete transparency Conor. I only think Riley should have been 3rd team for outdueling Hartman. However, that's my partisanship showing! OFC
