I believe Jordan Travis has another year at FSU, too. (if he wants it)

He might but he's been there for 5 years already. Doesn't anyone get tired of living with 18 year olds? I know when I was 22 I was ready to get out of college. Or does the NIL lessen the annoyance of teenagers?

Conor O'.Neill I saw where you went to Elon. I was raised in Elon and as a kid with my buddies reaked havoc on the campus whie camping out. Back then the whole campus was inside the college wall with the exception of Alumni Gym, the lake and those dorms beside the lake. Even the baseball stadium had not been built yet. We used to sneak into Alumni Gym and play basketball and the old basketball coach Bill Miller would run us out. I grew up on Power Line Rd and later moved to Haggard Ave. I also saw where you worked at the Times-News a few years ago. The Times-News has really went down. Do not get sports scores until at least a couple of days after the event happens. Do enjoy your post here, OFC

Just in case I missed it has our bowl game been announced. OFC

It’s great to see him recognized like that, although if it had been anybody else, I’d have been shocked. I have to believe he’ll get serious votes for national COY. Next to K, perhaps the best hire by Duke since I’ve been following Duke (since 1970). I loved Dewayne Carter’s comments, which gracefully avoided criticizing Coach Cut, but it was clear there was a distinct change in the leadership relations with the players. Congrats to Coach Elko and his entire staff!

so here we go
6 returning rb's 2ea incoming
8 returning wr's 4ea incoming
5 returning te's 2ea incoming
7 returning ol 3ea incoming
2 returning qb's 1ea incoming
11 returning db's 6ea incoming
5 returning lb's 2ea incoming
5 returning de's 3ea incoming
4 returning dt's 3ea incoming
add the punter and place kicker along with Trey Brown who i cant figure where he fits (6'1'' 200lbs DE i dont think so) that brings us (in my count) to 82 schollies spoken for. our entire front 4 dline, 3 of our top 4 lb's and 4 of our top 6 db's are back and i am really excited to see what a full year of training and conditioning will do for these kids. i feel like 8 rb's and 7 te's are a lot of schollies in those spots. our best 4 wr's are back and we are set at qb. the big worry for me is oline. right now we can fill out our 2 deep using our incoming freshman which is not good. looking at these numbers, i would use all 3 open spots on ol and i truthfully think they could use more.
i think we have 2 extra rb's, te's and db's. will be interesting to see if any transfer out to give us some room.

I appreciate you saying something about growing up around Elon, @skysdad! I kind of think I lived two different lives between going to Elon and living in the bubble, and then moving back shortly after graduation and working in Burlington. There was a TON about the surrounding area that I had no idea about and I'm glad I got to experience both sides of living in Burlington. The Times-News ... I mean, it's not different from any other newspaper these days. I've got ink in my blood but there's just such little job security in that industry that I'm more grateful of landing with Rivals than I've ever been.

Yep, @jeffrey236 -- proudly didn't go to any Big 4 schools so I can legitimately claim no bias toward anyone, haha.

This staff doesn't let any grass grow under its feet. It wants the team to keep improving!

I bet there's a Big Ten OL somewhere who is ready for grad school at Duke and would fit right in!
Preach it Lift!!!! OFC

I'm sure Elko is aware that if the team just stays the same, with the schedule next year, we'll take a big step backward.

so once again i will point out that at this moment we only have 2 schollies available. i would assume that right now we are focusing on oline becuse we are about 4-5 short of what we need. i know we have reached out to a guard from UF and one from Stanford.
i think the coaches probably know of a couple of kids who might be going to the transfer portal but wont announce till after the bowl experience.

Well, next year's team cannot do anything but improve. There will be 26-27 new faces. The team will have a full year of experience, not to mention a bowl game, spring practice, fall practice, and gifts from the transfer portal. Next year's team will be better, maybe much better. OFC

I was hoping we would play in the Sun Bowl vs UCLA. Would have made a great storyline of Jake Bobo vs his old team, and we would have been pitted vs a ranked team;(Could have definitely paid off poll wise for us with a win).

Nonetheless UCF is a quality opponent ranked 27th in AP Poll if you look at Honorable Mention Points. Who Knows? If things shake out just right with a Duke win and enough ranked teams losing, Devils could see a jump into or close to final poll.

So our new oline transfer has a nice interview out where he states he picked Duke because of the new staff. Also says he is coming in to play center.

So either Monk is leaving, or the Monk to center experiment is over. I don't think he played much there anyhow.

191 snaps at C; 385 at RG, per PFF. (I wish there was a way to sort where he was better)

Jack Burns clearly emerged as Duke's best option at center; as I understand*, he's out of eligibility. Monk has already said he's returning.

Remember: Elko has said he wants to have interchangeable parts on the O-line. That's why Duke went into the season saying they had eight playable OLs.

* worded that way because he played 5 games at Cornell at 2018, one over the redshirt limit, and that's a situation that could be appealed.

@ConorONeill @surfdevil

Seeing where we have reached out to a Northern Illinois DB and a Stanford OL both transferring. Please elaborate with any details.

Also Conor a question- Saw where UNC OC Longo and I think their OL coach are Wisc bound. Of course I saw the party line about Longo's connection to Wisc coach, etc.

However let's face it that UNC offense sputtered badly down the stretch. Really at least 2 of those 3 games UNC should have won. The Clemson game should have been closer. You think Mack even tried to keep Longo, and/or influenced his decision to depart? Thanks!! OFC

One more thing, and this is my Duke partisanship shining thru. I didn't take kindly and obviously NC STATE did not, to Drake Maye's disparaging remark reference the Raleigh school earlier this year. Mack of course blew it off, saying Drake was only "joking."

Maye's a prima donna. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised at Maye initiating Longo's leaving by blaming his offensive schemes for the poor showing by the offense at season's end. Mack has placed him on a pedestal, as have much of the media and 3/4's of the state.

Kind of like Wilson, the NY jets QB who is suspended and demoted after blaming everyone except himself for a Jets' loss. We all know, of course, that the Cheats would ignore similar comments from Maye. OFC

All right, sorry for taking a little while. Trying to juggle quite a bit even without games going on, haha.

1. I don't really have details on specific transfers. I'll point out that A) Duke seems to be returning more players than you'd have thought 3-4 months ago (details on this in a column soon, hopefully tomorrow), so I think they don't have as much wiggle room with transfers and B) This staff seems to favor adding the academically focused transfers. And ... can you blame them? The production they got out of Anthony Nelson, Cam Dillon and Jack Burns is hard to argue against.

2. I've got a hard time thinking UNC pushed Longo out or anything of that nature. He's given them 4 years of fairly consistent top-25 offense -- you're not willfully pressing a reset button on that just because of a few bad games.

3. I'm sure I'm in the minority but I kinda liked Drake Maye stoking the rivalry fires with the N.C. State comment. It's not like I want to see players be intentionally disrespectful, but IMO there's nothing wrong with talking a little shit, lobbing some grenades every now and then -- as long as you can back it up.

He backed it up all year until the end and N.C. State got the last word. If it actually served a purpose in motivating State's players, then Maye helped beat his own team.

Thanks Conor, I know I can always count on you for honesty. For myself, I hoped all year Maye's comments would blow up in his face. They sure did.

UNC fans on message boards are largely giving Longo the good riddance treatment. Doesn't surprise me, they are very fair weather. Longo is getting quite a bit of the "he runs a great offense, except in the red zone" treatment. Oh well, I would love to see Mack take over the offense!! Lol!!!
