Was 2010 Duke the last ACC team...

After watching these games so far still seems odd Dukes Zion team struggled in NCAAT. I guess only having one year to teach defense and lack of 3 point shooting did them in.

The 3 pt shooting killed us. Every team was playing a packed in defense and daring us to shoot. Had we made those shots at even a decent clip we would have walked through that tourney.

Scheyer at the point was what made us great. Didn't he not have a turnover until January or something? Very experiened and balanced team. Also Zoubek emerging.

FT shooting was a problem all year in ‘19 but rarely hurt because of our average margin of victory.

I distinctly remember many or most of us were very worried about it going into March.

Also at times the ball wasn’t in the proper hands at very important moments.

But man was that team fun!

UCF put Tacko Fall on Tre and then just had him stand in the paint. The game plan was stop RJ and Zion from getting to the rim at all costs and it basically worked three games in a row.

He was a key. I think it was a team where every player understood their role and they played physical defense. And they had an ideal rotation.

Scheyer, Smith, and Singler were the three scorers. Zoubek and Lance Thomas were there to rebound and defend and pick up the odd layup but otherwise work to get shots for the top 3. And the Plumlee brothers were ideal subs who also knew their role - not scoring, but rebounding and playing D.

And with the upperclassmen as the best players and leaders, they were physically and mentally tough. I will not soon forget the Baylor game. Baylor was an extremely impressive defensive team that played very physical brand of basketball.

One of my favorite plays that demonstrated this came in the final (or maybe semis). Zoubek got an offensive rebound right under the basket and most players would go right back up to try and score, but he kicked it out to one of the guards for a 3.

For me the 2010 was the most gratifying. The 1991 team was my favorite because it was our first and I had been waiting on it for a looooong time. Let me tell you why it is the most gratifying. It was just after the cheaters won the 2009 natty. A co-workers son of mine came into my office and yelled " DUKE'S GONNA SUCK NEXT YEAR!" Of course when we won the 2010 natty he was no where to be found for a while. When he did make an appearence of course I let him have it and he didn't remember a thing about it. Am I obsessed with cheater fans? You better believe it and fans like him are the reason. Been a long time since I've seen him but I ain't forgetting and he ain't forgot. But you know guys and gals he's a tar heel fan. He can't help it. It's his nature but no excuse. Bless his heart. OFC

Sky we're cut from the same cloth in our love of Duke and disdain( putting it very mildly) of The 'Cheats! OFC

Yes they were lucky to beat UCf and va tech. Not the program it once was. I hope coach k doesn’t pull a paterno or Bobby Bowden and stay like way too long He probably already has The coach k of 20 years ago would have been honest about the Marxist platform Of the BLM movement but this version just bends over and hopes duke can snag that four star recruit who can’t shoot or play defense

On the bright side, COVID variants are spreading and the climate crisis will end the world within 12 years.

People rag on this team for all the talent and not winning it all, but how often were we not at full strength? Zion vs UNC was the obvious, but Jones hurt vs Syracuse, losing someone else

Cam was also hurt at the end of the year.
True but he was in a shooting slump for most of the year. I remember when the devils beat Glenn Robinson and Purdue in 94 elite 8 I believe Rick pitino was on national tv practically gushing over what coach k was doing strategy wise. Hard to imagine hearing that lately. Look coach k is my idol but things are different now let’s face it

JUST STOP
Well you used all caps so of course I will take it very seriously. Many of you young folks may not realize that at one point coach actually had a belief system that did not include socialism and the suppression of free speech. Maybe he has “evolved” or maybe he is afraid those comments will hurt recruiting as the success of his program as do all athletic programs depend on the woke sensibilities of brainwashed teenagers

Suggesting that black people are treated as second class citizens and stepping up to do something about it is not socialism. The fact that leadership of BLM are communists does NOT mean that those of us who support the idea that we need to do something about this treatment are also socialist/communist. K is a thoughtful person who is willing to change his mind or revise his thinking. He apparently spoke with his former African American players and decided he needed to speak out. Your description of recruits as “brainwashed teenagers” is sad and incredibly condescending.

I figured you would show up I actually won 20 dollars from a friend of mine. They weren’t familiar with your idiocy but I showed them a couple of your posts from the lounge and they were like sure you’re on. He was like no one that’s predictable. And then I was like he can’t resist an opportunity to virtue signal and tell us how evil we white Americans are and here you are in record time so I will buy my next fifth of whiskey on you while you wring your little hands on how awful this country is

You are funny. But hey, glad my post won you some money.

Zion was our leading 3 point shooter in the tourney that year too. If only others could hit their shots.

Generally no but based on the rosters come on. Was I hallucinating or was duke like the 12 seed in their conf tournament Don’t worry everything’s fine though. Everyone sees what’s going on.

Pound for pound, the most loaded roster in recent college basketball history was beyond lucky to get out of the round of 32.
If you remember, there were a few things going on that hampered the team's growth. Tre going out with the bad shoulder had an effect on his profession and also affected the team dynamic. Then when Zion got hurt, that set the team back again. Also, right from the start, every sportswriter our there with a pulse was talking about our three-point shooting Achilles heel. As far as "beyond lucky," well the tournament is all about survive and advance. Luck is often involved in this tournament. Bottom line, they DID get out of the round of 32 and DID get out of the Sweet Sixteen. Any number of epic teams have faltered during March Madness (John Wall's Kentucky team comes to mind), which is what makes the tournament great

Good point. If Zion and Tre had not got hurt I really think things would have been different. So many things can happen no matter how good your lineup is but still if we had just made one more free throw in crunch time. OFC
