One thing sure, we won't be believing anything optimistic coming from the coaches until we see improvement on the field. That's what happens when you win so few games. I am ready and willing to become a believer when Duke wins an ACC game or two.
Anything less than a 3 TD win will not portend well for the rest of the season. The fact that Cut's boasting has decreased from previous years is not a good sign. OFC
Definitely less sunshine pumping from Cut this year DI....Anything less than a 3 TD win will not portend well for the rest of the season. The fact that Cut's boasting has decreased from previous years is not a good sign. OFC
Promising news about the trenches, but too bad about those dang drops. Although understandably less highlighted than our miserable turnover rate, dropped passes by Duke is a problem that dates back to Daniel Jones era. OFCin cuts press conference today he pointed out that of gunnars 8 passes in the scrimmage that the receivers dropped 3 so that he was really 6 for 8. better for gunnar but once again wr problems. also said gelotte is really playing well at the ot spot. he also likes what ron carr is doing on the dline. said he is rotating between de and dt. looks like the move is permanent.
Again I hate to sound like a broken record, but apparently we're lacking staff development(veteran receivers coach Trooper Taylor was hired, and supposed to light a fire under our wides). Now hes been moved to db's coach, where he has no experience, and Cut shuffled someone else to coach receivers w/no experience(oh yeah, Boyette, our ex RB's coach).SMH.Promising news about the trenches, but too bad about those dang drops. Hart, I have this feeling that passionate fans like you are few and far between. There are just as many alums that could care less about football, especially with all this conference realignment going on.
Well its funny Lift, when my late father took me to games in the McGee era (which was just fair to mediocre football) we drew decent crowds. We brought in good teams to play like Pitt w/Tony Dorsett, and regional foes that had good fanbases like South Carolina and ECU. Cut made sure Kevin White scheduled "down" considerably, and fans just don't care as much.Chicken and egg, Hart. How will we attract top level talent without showing them a nearly full stadium and a passionate fan base?
And of course, the answer is, go back to coaching up the mid level recruits, and beat the teams full of 4 star athletes with guile and superior preparation. Where did those days go?
It's not easy but it can be done. You are correct, there are a lot of fans who will jump on the bandwagon on any signs of success.
BINGO on most everything you said. On the bowls I think we need to maybe make at least mid-tier bowls to sustain interest. Certainly the Belk Bowl was a springboard for us in 2012, even though we lost the game. OFCI was at Duke during the McGee era. I think you're right, in those days most students (not all) went to games. I attended the Dorsett game and remember that it was more Pitt fans than Duke fans (of course they were 1st in the nation).
I would actually settle for trips to minor bowls on a continuing basis as long as we are competitive in the ACC. Being noncompetitive in the ACC and giving up 50+ points routinely to me is embarrassing and intolerable.
Good news! I don't want a short leash on our qbs, but I feel theres more depth at the position this year. Hope Cut won't wait TOO LONG to make a change if Gunnar doesn't produce.so just some info
per schumate and harding on the ALL22 podcast riley leonard has looked great so far in camp
true frosh OT justin pickett has been very impressive and there is talk about putting him in the two deep.

some people (no names given) think this might be our best OL since 2013. now that monk and holman have moved back inside i kinda get it. barton at LT and gelotte at RT was a dream of mine and it seems to be happening.
also said they would like to find a role where moore gets on the field due to his quicks. once again i ask ''connette package'' please.
9/18 may well indeed be D-Day vs NW!! OFCIf the OL can allow the offense to move the ball on the ground, the DL will get rest and look a lot better as a result. We may not know until 9/18 though.
Sounds like solid player surf! OFCbang bang
nathan vail 6'2'' S from ga commits
9 P5 offers duke. bc, ga tech, nebraska, kansas, k state, miss st, wake and wvu
really good get for us
Hope so, but am not holding my breath on this one. OFCjust an fyi
our latest TE commit was in the nc game of the week friday night. 2 time state champion chambers (formally vance) and ranked in the top 30 in the nation came to cardinal gibbons (#5 in state) and won a thriller. cardinal gibbons actually recovered a late on-side kick and was driving to win until a late interception ended the game. a friend of mine was at the game and said jake taylor had several receptions plus threw several pancake blocks. we might have a winner here guys.
Although Ben Watson, had he stayed, would have claimed that distinction.Speaking of TIGHT ENDS, we may look back at Noah Gray as the best in school history.Regrettably we didnt get him the ball enough... OFC
Bingo- "HAD HE STAYED." BW bailed after one year. Thank God rb Chris Douglas rejected Watson's pleas to go with him. Watson made right move for him, but I don't count him as a TRUE BLUE DEVIL.....OFCAlthough Ben Watson, had he stayed, would have claimed that distinction.

Love me some "Jurgy."Thanks for honoring him ged. I echo the birthday wishes! OFCHappy birthday a day late to Sonny Jurgensen. 87 years old on Monday. He obviously enjoyed playing, and that made him fun to watch.
Real name is Christian Adolph Jurgensen, so he was obviously born before WWII. He and Sam Huff were great on the radio.
Sonny played at New Hanover High and Duke class of 1957. According to the internet. He is still married to his wife, Margo. Married in 1967
I'm glad the Surratt's didn't come to Duke. The one that bothered me was Donavon Green who changed his mind and is at Wake. Good news today I heard WSJS 101.5 in the triad will cover Duke football and basketball games.I don't agree necessarily the ill-fated hb jump pass "changed the direction of college football" in NC. An argument could be made that happened when Surratt at UNC was playing qb in 2017 against Duke. He tried to throw a two handed overhead basketball pass that led to the Blue Devils clinching a win AT CHAPEL HILL on a PICK SIX.So I dispute the "game's direction in our state" was changed. However I would say it should have been a red flag for the Duke administration.Btw, how about the "shoestring" play Duke pulled against UNC in '69? Would you say that play "changed the direction of college fb in our state?"
Really don't know where you're going with the Surratt transfer. The kid never stopped liking UNC, and should have never signed with us. Of course the scumbag who poached him from us is history now anyway.I am not going to hang Cut out to dry on that one. OFC

I agree and these players that play at schools like cardinal gibbons will be disciplined on and off the field.Been saying for a long time that you could build a decent team out of Charlotte metro kids and Raleigh kids that fly under the radar. James Pearce is another one from Chambers. He's steadily climbed the rankings. Not a 4-star, but someone's going to get a good one there.
Saw Sonny play for my beloved Redskins in person at DC Stadium on several occasions. His training habits (or lack thereof) did not impede his unrivaled skill at QB. He brought excitement to every game he played in. He needs to be cloned. OFCHappy birthday a day late to Sonny Jurgensen. 87 years old on Monday.
