duke football news

that's true Surf, we had the chance to take over this game in the 3rd quarter and then the trick play. It's hard to win with 5 turnovers!!!

so the 2007 team went 1-11 and the 2006 team went 0-12. could both of those teams beat this one?

Very possibly surf.

I thought your post here really told the story! Its still early in the season, but now I wonder if the team will simply give up. Cut questioned our squad's level of conditioning in post game. This has gone on TOO LONG. Cut has gamed the system winning on patsies early non conference, and maybe winning 2-3 conference games to slide in an inconsequential bowl last 2 of 4 years. He should resign or be reassigned.... 8 of last 9 games are L's. OFC

cut has done this the last couple of years when he throws the kids under the bus. isnt conditioning kinda on the coach? if he would quit calling such boneheaded offensive plays then the defensive unit wouldnt keep wearing down. also we are undersized on both lines so the bigger beef that other teams have will sooner or later start winning the trench battles. this goes back to recruiting which is on cut.

Yeah I was shocked when he went after the kids conditioning. One thing that doesnt help Duke's D is Cut plays that hurry up offense the whole game! 3 and outs in that frequency will wear down your D trying to get a breather! Afraid more of same ahead next week when Va Tch comes to town for revenge from last year. OFC

All corners of Duke fb social media, fans calling for Cut to get the axe. Some worried if administration sticks with him, we're headed back to Franks/Roof era. Cannot say I disagree. Three games into the season, and we appear headed for a third losing season in the last 5 years. 8 losses in last 9 games. Kevin White grow a pair and show Cut the door! OFC

Going after the kids' conditioning is really unfair given that we have had just as much time as our opponents to work on conditioning. So why are they physically ready to play and we are not? Coaching, just maybe?

Spot on DI!!! Cut lamented our lack of scrimmages, the kids being home 129 days, anything that would stick COVID-WISE in post game. He even noted "this was our third" game against a team that was playing their opener, and we didnt know what to expect. SMH, doesnt he know that can also be an ADVANTAGE? We should be BATTLE TESTED, but sadly we dont look it.....Again, "Coaching." OFC

so mendenhall in his interview said they were yelling at the defense to watch the double pass on that snap due to the formation. add in the jump pass debacle against unc last year where they even called time out because they saw it coming, i am thinking cut needs to hit refresh on playbook.

this season is so frustrating for me. when you go back and look at the ND game we were down 17-13 after 3 quarters. the BC game was 10-6 with 3 minutes to go in the 3rd. at UVA we led 20-17 with 12 minutes to go in the 4th. if we had any kind of P5 worthy offense we could be having a totally different conversation. our defense gives us a chance to win but the turnovers by the offense are just killing us. i have watched all 3 games till the bitter end and the biggest problem i see is our oline is just not good. holman is really struggling at LT. he has had to play that position by default. he belongs at guard. will taylor, while being a great comeback story, is not getting any push at center. maybe time to move monk into that spot. a mid oline with holman, monk, mcintyre, barton and using rak and wll as veteren backups would be deep. the biggest issue is one hart has been talking about for a while. we have missed for several years now on OT recruiting with cuts bad oline coaching moves. i know this is freys first year with us but they were not unhappy on their boards that he was out at fla st. we had 5 or 6 open schollies this year and we could have brought in one or two more OT grad transfer guys than hamilton but for some reason cut decided to go into this season with what we had. bad call. we cant consistently run the ball or pass protect well which really hurts the skill position guys. when the oline is working well and we give brice time he looks good. also in the third quarter against uva we started punching holes for the rbs. then the FREAKING double pass play and it was over. ugh

I have been saying the same thing as Surf for at least 2 seasons. There is no push from the OL. You see the lack of confidence in the OL when we have a 3rd and 1 or 2 and Cut calls a pass play. We can't just push the ball in when we're within the 10 yard line. We can't sustain drives. We can't give Brice the pocket he needs to allow our receivers to run a long pass route. We can't keep the defense off the field.

That's not the only problem but when BC dominates our OL with a bunch of 2 and 3 star defenders, it tells you something.

GUYS, GREAT POSTS! TERRIFIC INFO AND OBSERVATIONS! Cut presser today. Probably more of same: "We're going back to work," "We must work on our conditioning. Remember we had only couple days of spring ball and only one fall scrimmage because of Covid." Yikes....smh....New ACC power rankings this morning, we're next to last- but I dont think we'd beat bottom ranked FSU either! OFC

FYI cuts presser was just what you thought it would be. covid to blame. calhoon to blame for dble pass interception. he just cant seem to take any blame. i have been solidly behind cut but these last few years have sucked. his contract runs though 22 and i really dont think the ''powers that be'' will want to eat his salary in this budget crunch time.

so interesting question on another sites board. which other acc coach would you consider cut better than right now? ps cut has only finished above .500 twice in conference in 12 years
bc jeff hafley
clemson dabo sweeney
fsu mike norvell
ga tech geoff collins
louisville scott satterfield
miami manny diaz
ncsu dave doreen
unc mack brown
pitt pat narduzzi
syracuse dino babers
uva bronco mendenhall
va tech justin fuente
wake dave clawson
i might say doreen, norvell and collins but really not sure about that.

Sadly surf I would almost be willing to bet we dont eat Cut's contract. You make a great point about the economics of it, w/Covid sucking the life out of athletic budgets.

Yes Cut was playing more blame games, as is his manner. The Covid blame has really got to stop, every collegiate program has been impacted nationally. We simply havent adjusted as well as other teams. I think Cut has a hard time accepting that fact.

Wow, really limited here on selecting Cut over other ACC head coaches! I never considered Narduzzi at Pitt a great coach, yet he OWNS Cut. Now Bronco Mendenhall, who I really consider solid-not only beats us on the field, he beats us on many of the same recruits. Cut is simply at this stage no better than fair to adequate on some of the cornerstones of coaching:hiring staff, recruiting, game preparation, in-game adjustments, etc.

Everything he was doing 5-7 years ago was working. The key: the rest of the Coastal Division has revamped/upgraded in MOST CASES,while David Cutcliffe and our Devils have largely not adjusted with the times. Our conference records are indeed proof positive. I will NEVER abandon the program, its a way of life. I just hope Cut steps aside/is shown the door before we TOTALLY BOTTOM OUT......OFC

Agree, except that I would rate Cut "poor" in hiring staff and in-game adjustments.

Well its here....GAMEDAY......

4 games into the season I do not think anybody thought we would be 0-3. We looked competitive vs Notre Dame, and I really liked our chances at home vs BC. Oh well.....

Virginia Tech comes trotting into Wallyworld at 1-0 after destroying State at home last week 45-24. They obviously can score, and have an RB who torched "Pack last week for over 100 yds on just SIX carries.

Their defense had half a dozen qb sacks as well.Hokies ability to rush passer is worrisome for our porous O-line. Chase is slow, lets face it, and I think Holmberg or Katrenick deserve the start. However I am guessing Cut starts Brice.Until we breakthrough and win, I predict we keep it close awhile then our worn out D is exposed. (Va Tech 31, Duke 17).

Va Tech is a 12.5 favorite this morning. The game is at 4pm and will be telecast on the ACC NETWORK.

I guess that I could look it up.... Virginia Tech was missing 23 players against State. Are they close to full strength today?

I hope we play a whole game for a change, but if we don't take better care of the ball, this could be really ugly!! GO DUKE!!!!
