I see the Cheats humped the Camels today, warming up for next week. I’m not particularly optimistic about our chances, as UNC’s offense is really good. Unless we can play ball control, our D is going to pretty weary. Hopefully Grayson will be more comfortable in his new starting role and can get the job done. But we are going to need to avoid turnovers and penalties, and our receivers need to stop dropping passes.
Jeffrey I "liked" your comment but not the part about not being optimistic and I'll tell you why.
First, we have the much better coach next week and you see how that got us a win against Wake that we didn't deserve.
Second, I see Grayson growing up before our eyes. Anyone named Grayson can beat the Cheats any time any day!
Third, the Cheats can't stop the run. We may have our starting O line back for next week. If that's the case, we can run against the Cheats, and control the ball like we did last year. Our defense won't tire out because they won't be on the field for 40 minutes.
I'm not saying it's going to happen but in Elko I trust.
I "liked" both your posts, because I can see merit to both takes. Unpacking everything I will admit the Cheats "offense is really good" as jeffrey noted.
By the same token, we couldn't have a better coach (best defensive mind in country?), to scheme against Maye and co. Liftee noted Elko's coaching Thursday nite, and I will add Elko's airtight plan had the highly rated Sam Hartman and Notre Dame stopped until 4th and 16. (We held Jordan Travis and FSU in check until 4th qtr.)
I think Jeffrey is really onto something with us being able to move the chains, and run the ball effectively("ball control"). That's a tremendous factor, but I tend to agree with Lift, and see our starting OL intact for the first time in weeks. After all its The Cheaters, and their referees stole it from us last year. Elko is out for blood, and our kids are as well! I think we will run it effectively.
As Lift noted, Grayson improved as game evolved.
The td pass to Jordan Moore was HUGE, tying the game. Also the game management skills showed by Loftis down the stretch (game winning drive), were impressive. Can Grayson "be comfortable" (jeffrey reference) in a heavily hostile environment and manage the game??
I agree we must win the turnover battle, and limit penalties (holding has really hurt our ability to have more "explosives"). Also Jalon Calhoun should carry a football everywhere he goes this week. Drops must cease!! (Amen jeffrey!).
In sum there's quite a bit of insightful commentary in your posts guys. My closing thought to winning the game? Duke MUST SCORE MINIMUM 30 points to win Saturday. It involves controlling tempo offensively, and limiting UNC's ability to score quickly from anywhere on the field. A healthy Darian Mausi at LB and Myles Jones at DB would be a terrific boost!! #GoDuke #GTHCGTH
