OT: Sports trivia part 2.

Does anyone recognize the name Ray Reeve? Who was he and what was his connection to Duke basketball? Some of you old timers might know.

Ray Reeve was the 1st announcer I ever heard doing Duke play by play on radio in the early 60s.He had a signature line when Duke had a game put away: "And School Is Out!"

You nailed it Hart. Ray was the original Bob Harris. I spent many hours listening to those games on my transistor radio. Ray was also the tv sportscaster for WRAL.

Ray was terrific. He was indeed "The original Bob Harris." I also liked Leo Morris who did play by play later on and his broadcast commentator was former Duke basketball benchwarmer Glen Smiley.

Mike McGee IIRC, only had one win over UNC, making it even sweeter when we drubbed the Cheats 27-10 in 1973. Leo was LOVING IT, and late in 4th qtr said: "Join the Carolina fans after the game for crying in their Schlitz!" Lmao!!! Duke finished 2-8-1 that year. Who was the other team they defeated at home?

I was at that game and didn’t even realize it to I looked up. Since I had to looked it up I will let someone else give the answer.

Not the Cardinal, but VERY GOOD guess because thats another school out west we had home and home with 71-72... OFC

I know we beat Washington in 1971 but I don't remember them coming back to Durham. I'll guess Washington only because I can't think of any other.

Liftee it was Washington in a hotly contested battle 23-21. Duke qb Mark Johnson hit wideout Randy Cobb for the gamewinner. The PAT was blocked, but we held on....Good job, you are up! OFC

In the 2010 finals vs. Butler, who made Duke's last points BEFORE Zoubek's last foul shot? Those points proved to be the winning points.

DiehardDukie got it! It was Nolan. I remember thinking at the time that the game was sewn up, I think we had maybe a 5 point lead? Didn't see the game coming down to a half court heave that almost went in.

You're up.

Singler made jumper with about five minutes left. It was our last made FG of the game. We had some pretty ugly possessions down the stretch in that one. It's a good thing that team played some serious defense.

It was an ugly game. I remember Scheyer trying to dribble by his defender and being held, shoved and body blocked, with no call. Duke gave out its share of punishment also. Two really tough teams.

Thanks. Heres a question about something more recent. How many total 20+ point games did we have last season? If nobody gets it correct then I’ll go with whoever comes closest.

This is not the type of question one could possibly know. You are asking everyone to guess rather than relying upon their recollection. I will wait until the next question.

There was actually a thread where I kept track of how many 20+ point games players had last season. That’s what trivia is, sometimes guessing when you’re not sure of the answer.
