Next years minutes

I think having Williams covered up a lot of our defensive issues. He had a really good year, esp. down the stretch. Him and Roach playing well in the tournament was the reason we made the FF. Banchero was very consistent down the stretch as well.

Every team needs a goon. He doesn't have to start, but you need one. Dan Meagher was a contributor on Krzyzewski's early Duke teams. He was a Canadian "goon" with a mullet who set great picks and frustrated the opposing Big Men.

With all of the elite talent at Duke, a goon would help immensely. Goons don't need the ball. Refs like it when a good team has a goon. They call fouls on the goon rather than Banchero or Bacot or Timme

Really? Wow that would be incredible. Maybe players making money will make a difference. Moore and Keels and Roach back and we are a title contender. Even Moore and Roach. Returning a Duke backcourt with FF experience hasn't happened since J Will and Duhon.

Some NBA folks now have him sliding into mid second if he goes. Here is Duke's chance to really use the NIL and show its benefits for guys like this. But at the end of the day????????????????

They must have read my posts haha. I have never seen Moore as a first round guy. Maybe the beginning of this season, but that was mostly against cupcakes. I would love to get him back.

If Moore and Keels return, I doubt they just return. They will test the waters, so we can all agonize until the deadline. It's never that easy at Duke.
If they declare I wouldn’t look for them back . The way things are set up now you don’t need to declare to get all the same information you would if you do.

I'd be thrilled to get just one back. If we get both back, I would be very excited about next season. Hell, even one back I would be excited. I don't think just Roach back is enough for us to make a run.

Two weeks ago I was 100% on Roach and Baker returning and really no one else realistically coming back. The noise is starting to get louder though that Keels and Moore are both coming back. I'd say I am still tentative with both. But I'll go 70/30 on Keels and 50/50 on Wendell.

I still say just Keels but I would gladly be wrong. A week ago I said just Roach.
Keels, I'd almost say definitely at this point. Too much talk is coming out to ignore. Moore is starting to really look like a possibility. His stock actually could get higher next year in a weaker draft. Both of these guys are 1st round locks with another year. Both are looking like 2nd rounders right now. I'd say with the NIL we might just see them both come back. Of course, who truly knows but the guys themselves in the end. I've just heard a ton of noise that has lessened my anxiety about next year's group.

What great news if true. I am not used to our borderline guys using common sense. Maybe Steward was a cautionary tale. Maybe it is NIL. But it is a nice change, when even guys like DeLarurier and Bolden were testing the waters and Steward hired an agent.

And it's a big IF, because I don't trust anything until we get official word. That said, I think our back court worries are non-existent next season if they both return. The front court has me concerned though. Hoping Broome or someone like him will come to Duke next year. Flip, Mitchell, and Lively are good, but I think they would all struggle against stronger front lines. Man, I'd love to have a junior Mark. We would be the favorites next year with him down low.

We say the same thing every year. If player x comes back he’s a sure first rounder. Moore could drop to the third round just as easily. Great talent below the neck but there’s something not quite right there in terms of his fight, hustle. Tired of seeing him get out worked and outfought by glorified scrubs who just want it more. I agree with the overall tone of your post however

Excited to see how NIL changes things. As NIL opportunities become more lucrative, i would imagine you start to see guys like Keels and Moore return. I am really curious what Steward and Hurt do if they were allowed to make money in school. I mean, get a Duke education, and get paid!? Outstanding!

NIL wouldn’t have kept them in school any longer . Just because it’s there you still have to be able to market the player. If they come back it’s because Keels can improve and at worst Moore still gets drafted in the same spot . The fact remains also how do you play all of them? Would Keels come off the bench behind Moore and Roach? Does Whitehead move to pf? Does Moore see hisself as a better leader off the bench . I do think it’s safe to say Roach , Whitehead and Lively are all starters. Also if they return that’s pushing Mitchell at atleast flip to the bench there are only so many balls to go around .

Just watched the Jordan Brand Classic highlights. Small sample size, but some thoughts.
1. Lively is long and active. He's built like AD in college. Should be a good shotblocker at the next level.
2. Kyle is a good shooter. Nice 3 point shot. He's a little skinnier than I expected; he's built more like McRoberts. A bit slow but very skilled.
3. Mitchell the kid going to Texas looked the best to me. He really flies around and is smooth.
4. Nick Smith had a ridiculous through the legs alley oop. He's going to be fun to watch at Arkansas.
5. I didn't notice Whitehead but I was focusing on our two bigs.

Lively is 7'1" with incredible coordination. He just has no desire to score. With the proper coaching, he will be great one day. I suspect that he will only average 9 or 10 points next year. Keels and Moore should return. They would both put up big numbers next year

WTF is your problem? Is it possible to be civil and just respond to what I post without the other crap? It costs you nothing to be respectful.
No it’s not with someone trying to hide behind at least 2 different handles.

Sir, this is what I call a champagne problem 😀

My personal opinion is Roach, Keels and Moore would all start if they return. 2 out of the 3 freshman would start. It's a relatively weak class as I've said, there's no Tatum, Zion or Banchero. Lively will probably start. Perhaps by years end one of those returning guys comes off the bench, but I'd have to think a senior Moore would start over Whitehead. It's definitely a good problem to have; and remember this is Duke, so injuries will likely happen. And we may never know if someone goes pro.

Whitehead can be that. Both mentioned outside of Zion got a wall and and one point Tatum stopped looking like a lottery pick. There’s a whole lot of unknowns but I will say IMO. Should keels and Moore return one is coming off the bench . Whitehead isn’t moving to pf and then your leaving yourself open to a rather midsized bench . Lively , Whitehead and Roach are my bet on starters. That’s a pg, a sg/sf and an athletic rebounded and rim protector at the five . Roach and Keels why they played together didn’t play as well on the floor together as Moore and Roach .

My gut says Moore returns, I've been calling that for weeks. Same gut also says Keels is gone. I like a Senior Moore playing off Roach as the primary ball handler. Book it!!

The upside to this is if Keels returns Duke will have a lot of interchangeable defensive players. Mitchell can guard 2-4, Whitehead can guard the 1-3. Quickness and defense will be Dukes calling card next season .
Heard that last season , defense wasn't that good lol

I don't know how Jon is gonna spread out the minutes if Moore and Keels come back next year. If we can get a solid banger/savage through the portal I know we are going to be hard to deal with and cheater fans want Moore and Keels gone just as much as we wanted bacot and black gone and want love and davis gone.OFC.

It was at times but lack of continuity continued to show . When you watch the game that Whitehead and Mitchell played against one another neither could hardly score on the other.

It would be a great problem to have though, Sky. Jon could make it work.

Keels will be back. Moore is on the fence but leaning towards returning

If Moore returns he needs to be the Moore through December this year ...for the entire year then he can improve his draft position. Keels could use the year to improve his consistency....at times he looked like he was NBA ready, other times he looked like a HS player. Having a senior that will actually contribute will be a novelty.

I don't think we have had a first round guy return since Singler. Maybe Mason Plumlee. Moore is 20 to 30 on most mocks.

A lot of people still saying he’s a second rounder and on the fence . The question I think for Moore is if coming back improves his draft stock or will he still be second round either way and can someone buy into being the lead guard off the bench .
