Next years minutes

I heard Baker fell off the bench and injured himself. Just kidding Joey. He was playing decent midway through the season and then he stopped playing. So that could explain it. Regarding other sites I do lurk on RR and Duke Basketball Report as there are times there is no one on here. I don't post on DBR any more as they can get very pedantic and it seemed like every post I made was corrected by someone.

WTF is your problem? Is it possible to be civil and just respond to what I post without the other crap? It costs you nothing to be respectful.
So it is you. Posting under two names. A little different but I’ll give you the respect you’ve earned from your previous delusional ramblings over at the Lounge. Which is to say the bare minimum

is dbr shows board or something else?

I'm glad Baker is back. He was close to a rotation player this year but had some injuries down the stretch. Can be a leader. Now let's get Roach and Keels back and a frontcourt transfer. Next year may be the year Baker gets in the rotation, esp. if Jon plays 8 or 9 guys. I'd have to think he'd be ahead of Schutt.

So the kid had a bad hip and the coaches here were all wondering why K wasn't using him. Kid must suck, can't play, not earning time. Wish all players had the love of Duke that it looks like Joey does. Welcome back young man.

Baker hasn't consistently hit his shot for four years, so let's not get carried away. That said, I like Baker and am glad he's back. But he has a confidence problem. he looks great in scrimmages. I hope this is the year he finally breaks through. It's great he likes Duke and came back, but asking more of him isn't really asking that much as long as you are respectable. We have REALLY missed a reliable shooter the last few years at key times.

Thank you glad someone said it beside me . Baker , while he hasn’t been consistent or a top notch shooter has dealt with injuries. Not to mention. Stayed when he could have left .

I've defended Baker for four years and raved about him the last 2 preseasons when he shot lights out in the scrimmages. He will look great in the scrimmages next year as well. Maybe he can thrive in Jon's more laid back approach, because he really didn't respond to K.

Scrimmages are just that not much Defense. Being that Baker is one of the only upperclassmen returning I think he will shine . But he has to keep mixing it up. Teams know when he gets in the game it’s simply for shooting .

I wonder if Jon will play more zone. Hiding Joey in a zone on D allows him to play a few more minutes and take advantage of his shooting.

Duke should play more zone. It was their better defense this year. Zone helped disrupt the rhythm of Michigan State and some other opponents. I believe that Duke should also utilize a zone trap. The team struggled to create turnovers

I would not wait for the players to make decisions. Duke has plenty of spots open to sign transfers. The first need appears to be a big man with some muscle

I agree but the problem is the incoming recruits. Duke would need a big out the portal who believes he’s taking someone’s minutes in the front court in order to get one.

We need a bruiser. Williams and Banchero look a lot more physical than Flip and Lively. And we had Theo as well. There are 20 minutes of playing time if we can find a guy to back up these two.

Lively doesn't shoot often. I would advise Keels and Griffin to return. There will be plenty of shots available Griffin could easily average 21 points and Keels 17

Every team needs a goon. He doesn't have to start, but you need one. Dan Meagher was a contributor on Krzyzewski's early Duke teams. He was a Canadian "goon" with a mullet who set great picks and frustrated the opposing Big Men.

With all of the elite talent at Duke, a goon would help immensely. Goons don't need the ball. Refs like it when a good team has a goon. They call fouls on the goon rather than Banchero or Bacot or Timme

Even I wouldn't advise Griffin to come back when he's in the lottery. But Keels yes.
Griffin has two great options. He will be a lottery pick this year. I think that he would average 22 points and be a top 3 pick if he stays. He could make a couple hundred thousand dollars from NIL, and learn to become a dominant player.

The safe play is to go pro now, but Tim Duncan, Michael Jordan and many others blossomed in part because they were the unquestioned leaders of great teams

I think our physicality was the difference this year. Our team was young, but physically mature. We had a beefed up Williams, Banchero, Theo, Keels and AJ. This probably allowed us to get by teams like Texas Tech and even MSU who in years past has given our young teams trouble. That's why I'm hoping for Keels back and a bruiser PF so we don't get knocked back again. We also caught a break with our one seed losing. We still may have beat Gonzaga in a rematch, but you take all the breaks you can get.

The upside to this is if Keels returns Duke will have a lot of interchangeable defensive players. Mitchell can guard 2-4, Whitehead can guard the 1-3. Quickness and defense will be Dukes calling card next season .

Yeah, we were definitely wrong on AJ defensively. I don't remember many saying Paolo would be great on D, just an upgrade from Hurt (which was obvious). But AJ was said to be a lock down type of guy on that end, and he was far from it. Maybe his injuries had something to do with it. On a brighter note, I never expected his outside shooting to be so good.
