***DUKE VS BELLARMINE OFFICIAL GAMEDAY THREAD***

Hurt getting it done with 24 and 6. Make that guy a captain.
11 guys have scored!
At this point starting 5 should be Goldwire, DJ, Brakefield, JJ and Hurt. Next up Roach, Moore Williams and Baker.

We aren't beating anyone worth a crap until we cut down on the turnovers... way too many again...happens every game

From the look of the box score it looks like we had a real good second half and so did Johnson. Hurt two strong games in a row. Good to see everyone that played scored. We are really going to have to play a lot better agqinst Ill. but we all know that. We need to play this game and grateful Bellermine was available. OFC

Moore could come off the bench as a defensive spark like Goldwire used to.

We played a much better 2nd half. Real good game for Hurt. Was impressed with Williams on defense. He is the rim protecter we need. Was able to watch the 2nd half, after missing the 1st half. Moore is still missing in action. We will need him to break out Tuesday against Illinois. JJ finally came alive in the 2nd half!! Better effort, but a weaker opponent, but a win!!!
OFC

I was diffently glad to see Joey finally make a shot. Maybe this will start a hot streak for him. We need his 3 point shooting for Tuesday!!!

Nice cruise to the win. I didn't get to watch the game live, but after three games, at least for now, it's clear to me that K has tagged Hurt as THE man. That could change as the season evolves, but for now, he's going thru Hurt, and it's awesome to see him rise up. The rest will rise around him. Moore will be there for us, he will come around. Jalen will be a stud.

Well, I popped in and see some of the usual “X sucks” or “X is awful”.....

It’s a young team, a screwy season, and they’re going to take lumps. Let’s see how things go a bit before throwing kids under the bus.

One observation: it appears they’re better when Williams is on the court. He or Tape should be on the court most of the time.

We are very raw. And that's totally fine if....

I'm not sure if I'm in the minority here, but in the last handful of years, imo, I've seen very little growth of our teams throughout the season. Who we are in late December/early Jan is who we are in late April. We tend to dominate in the early season, yet reach our ceiling early as well as many other top tier teams tend to improve throughout the season (say what you want, but a good example is Kentucky - December Kentucky and April Kentucky are generally pretty different teams).

So it's okay we're raw right now, but I sure hope I see this team grow throughout the year.

May have said he has BEEN awful which he has all year...don't remember saying he WAS awful
You also said all other non-freshmen besides Hurt “stink”. You can play technicality but it’s a typical trend. Just lighten up a little man.

Yes I did and he has stunk along with others but that don't mean he sucks...just means he has stunk so far

I'm lightened up buddy...I just call out things...where you don't...that's fine too

Are we getting another game this weekend? I thought I saw some reports Duke was trying to get a game Saturday or Sunday to replace Elon. I would like this young team to get as many games as possible before conference play. Tuesday will be a tough one versus Illinois.

This team has potential. Some great defense on display early on in the second half earlier tonight. As coach said, this team is a work in progress.

I was able to see the game live on Fox Sports South, because I am outside the Triangle area.Hurt looked "Laettneresque" last nite. His outside shots were touching nothing but net. There's only ONE LAETTNER, but honestly the way Hurt looked last nite gave me flashbacks. He will have HIS OWN identity, and be a very good player for us.

Brakefield is a pleasant surprise, and when we have him and Matt stroking it from outside, we can be a tough team for anyone. I like what Williams brings to the table: boards, blocks, tap outs, good passer for big man. In time I think he gets his offensive game going too.

I think Jordan has earned the starting PG spot for now, and actually I like the 5 who started. I would say the only question mark of the 5 is Wendell, but I think he will come around. That dunk by Steward was SICK!!!! OFC

Oh no I call things, but in a more stable tone. We’ve all come to expect you to insult these kids, I’m just recommending you chill a little in your attacks lol.

Based on their performances Brakefield deserves to start over Moore but I don't think K will do that to Moore. His confidence is likely shaky at best and being benched could put him in a hole, psychologically speaking, that would be difficult for him to climb out of.

I suppose you could make the argument that benching Moore might motivate him (like it did Elton Brand when K benched him a couple of games his sophomore year) but I don't think Moore and Brand were at the same place in terms of their respective reservoirs of confidence.

Roach is the player that's surprised me the most, and obviously not in a good way. What I've seen from him in games is wildly incongruous with what I've seen in practice and scrimmage videos. Certainly not writing him off but man.... he looks a long way from things "clicking."

Copied everything, because I agree with ALL YOUR POINTS....Nice post! OFC

I just want to thank Coach K for coming to the board and taking our advice to start Williams and not let the other team dictate how we play our lineups. Williams made them think about shooting layups often. They were scared. That’s what we need. So now we can play that aggressive defense because we have an anchor in the middle to clean up. Thank you.

is it me or does Roach play just like Goldwire? Is he not allowed to attack the basket in real games? We need our pgs to penetrate because more they can throw the lob to the centers we play

Last night we did a lot of the things I was hoping for. Williams gives us a whole new dimension if he plays like that. Him being at the 5 (and Tape providing some back up) allows Hurt to roam around like last night. Hurt looked great. The fact that our guards couldn't really stand out despite the opponent is a bit concerning. I like Brakefield at the 3. He's earned it. JJ need to cut down on the early fouls. Moore needs to come off the bench and shoot less. He's not JJ Reddick in a slump. He's a defensive specialist who can get to the hoop. Baker hit a 3 which hopefully helps his confidence. I don't think we will beat Illinois but after last night I think we at least have a chance. One of Roach or Steward needs to play a great game for us to do it Tuesday imo.

I gotta be honest... a lineup of Jalen at point, Goldwire or Steward at the 2, Brakefield at the 3, Hurt at the 4 and Williams at the 5 intrigues the heck out of me.

And maybe a zone on the defensive end?

Jalen could be a potential matchup nightmare for opposing defenses, at the 1. A 2-3 zone like "Orange" (tribute to Boeheim by his good friend K) gives us some flexibility. 4 of those guys are really long especially Williams obviously, and I would like to see us try it! OFC

Roach looks like a 4 year guy right now; and that's okay. He probably won't be and will improve, but he should be our PG next year at least. He looks so small. we were super glass half full on our incoming guards, but the reality is they are freshman who will take time and be up and down. Hopefully by the end of this year they will excell. Both will be good, but the question is when. I have been very impressed with Brakefield, he should be one and done at this rate.

Three things I liked and didn't like in the game. What are the main things you liked/disliked from Duke last night?
