You’re exactly right. I think we should give coach k a big extension. 10 years 30 million !!!

Tool?

We need a new coach to be named quickly in order to keep these recruits.

#47 in the country is good enough if we are coaching up the kids as Cut used to do but Wake does now.

the thing that wake has been able to keep doing that we stopped was redshirting if not the whole freshman class then most of them. if you look at their roster this year they have 18 guys who are 22 or older. that seems like a lot to me. kinda reminds me of the old BYU teams where they would all go their mission and then came to play football. 23 year old men vs 19-20 year old kids is an advantage.
our new coach needs to be able to sell development for the program over instant recognition

In typical Cutcliffe fashion, he blames the losses not on Duke's poor defensive schemes, but on bad tackling by the players, who he claims are not "fierce" enough. I wonder what the players thought of that comment, which translates into calling the players wimps or, at best, not sufficiently dedicated. Needless to say, Cut sidesteps the real issue which is that the coaching staff does not place Duke's players in position to make timely tackles. The numerous explsives which we give up are indisputable proof of that fact. He also ignores the fact that after 10 or 11 games, Duke's tackling has not improved one iota. Just a week ago, Cut made the silly and false claim that "there were not a lot of mistakes" on defense. It po's the hell out of me that Cut would blame his failures on the kids after all that they have been forced to endure. What a weak self-centered excuse for a coach the man is. You don't want to know how I REALLY feel. OFC

Good points surf. Ready to move on. BYU is still doing it. Regardless of the next coach Duke fans need to be patient. OFC

Good post DI, let it out!! Everything you said is TRUE!!! Cutcliffe's arrogance yesterday at his presser was appalling: "I'm a YOUNG FOOTBALL COACH." Yeah coach, me too.... OFC

It would be interesting to offer the job to Krzyzewski. He needs a new challenge. He could recruit a staff to do the football coaching. He could still be the man in charge. Maybe two years. It would elevate the status of the program

True everything you said. When things have gone irrecoverably sideways you could analyze any press conference like that. What I want what we all want what the iron dukes want is indeed a wake forest model. We know we won’t get a lot of the four stars that will end up at Clem or unc. Player development effort Up I think that hit us the worst the lack of effort. That was pretty much cuts last nail in the coffin

Coach K has stayed away from duke football all these years for a reason. Plus he’d have to go head to head with the great Mack Brown!!Pass!!

Correct. So let’s take a gander at Wakes roster. How many of their players would not have consider going to Duke? It’s a superior school a lot of talent big metro area. Winston Salem is in the middle of f—no where. Get real

Gameday, and mercifully the final one for '21. I think I speak for most others here in saying we hope its the final one for this coaching staff as well. We seemingly have endured root canal surgery forever (actually last 3 years), comprising HC David Cutcliffe with his tired, outdated game plans, schemes, stubbornness, etc. (More about his status later).

Thats not to mention a majority of staff that lacks sufficient credentials, and the train has long ago gone off the tracks with minimal player development and a recruiting slump.

Ok to the game! Miami has clinched a bowl and seeks to go 7-5 vs the Blue Devils. 'Canes coach Manny Diaz could be coaching his final game however as they take their winning a bit more serious in Miami.Regardless, Diaz wants to go out with a bang, and doesnt want a loss to Cutcliffe on his resume if he is sent packing.Manny need not worry: backup qb Tyler Van Dyke has taken over, is hot as a pistol generating huge yardage with a touchdown to interception rate of 22 to 6.(Compare that to Gunnar Holmberg at 7 to 7). I foresee another methodical shredding of our secondary, and big numbers for Van Dyke. He has a receiver in Rambo who can fly, and has NFL all over him.

Duke's best bet is lots of Mateo Durant and DOWNFIELD PASSING, not a steady diet of swing passes for 2 yards. Cut better pull out all the stops, it could be his last game! Hmmm...concerns me- despite all the speculation Cut will step down, he was so ARROGANT in his weekly presser: "I'm a young football coach, full of fire! A win over Miami would be great going into the off season." All this with AD Nina King in the room. Was it an act, or has he been told hes free to return next season??Should be an interesting 24-48 hours. Miami a 21.5 favorite and a 12:30 Wade Stadium kick. Canes 45, Duke 24. OFC

J D King posted a ridiculous article on DBR. He says we should keep Cut (1) because ne is a good man and (2) because he was loyal to Duke and did not leave for UT. King ignores the fact that that was over 10 years ago. He also ignores the fact that with the current staff, there is no way Duke has a winning season next year. So, King says that it is up to Cut to decide when to go REGARDLESS OF THE PERFORMANCE OF THE FOOTBALL TEAM. At least King is not dumb enough to suggest that Cut could probably resurrect the program. In short, the gyst of the stupid article is that it should be more imporatnt to Duke to be loyal to Cut than doing what is necessary to save the team which, as we all know, is to fire Cut if his stubborn arrogance will keep him from resigning immediately, as he should. OFC

Terrible take by King.

Any interest here in Skip Holtz?

I'm not watching this game, well, because I have a life, but following it. I see that with a minute left in the first half, Miami has 330 yards in offense. Duke must be close to another record of most yards given up in one season.

I truly expect an announcement today. Either that he’s leaving or that he expects to be back next year. I’m betting on the former.

if people missed the photo of everyone who walked today there were two jr's among them. zamari ellis whom i expected but also casey holman who has been solid on the ol for us. that would be a loss of experience for us BUT we have 4 interior guys coming in next year and thats where he should be. probably will transfer somewhere that he can move inside to at least get a look by the nfl. 6'4'' is not an ot in the nfl

so here is who walked who were on scholly

Conor thanks. Any personal insights on our chances for a new coaching staff next year? I think personally Cut should have already stepped down, in respect for the players, fans, program and Duke University.

I am also tired of the "Cut is a good man" chorus. A truly good man, but obviously not a good Duke head coach was Barry Wilson. Always admired Barry if for nothing more than the way he handled his own resignation in '93. Late in his 4th season, he stepped up and said he had NOT had a good tenure and would resign at season's end.He honored his commitment. Our AD later said Barry was not in any danger of being terminated at year's end.

Cutcliffe should read his Duke football history, and take a page in sportsmanship from Barry Wilson. I agree with @Liftee . The "dignity ship has sailed" on our current coach. OFC

Let's review. Wallace Wade built Duke into a national power. He dipped after WWII because he didn't have the same motivation after war and changing times and evolution of football had an effect. He still had a good final year.

Bill Murray was an excellent coach who kept us at a high level before retiring. We dominated the ACC at its birth and were still a respected program, beating Notre Dame at times and competing with national powers.

Duke went a different way during the late 60s. We didn't have bad coaches but we did go downhill for reasons people are aware of, like tightening academic standards, etc...

Spurrier proved with the right coach it can be done. He also proved it would be difficult to hold on to a top notch coach, even discounting Florida being his alma mater.

Coach Cut has done a lot. I am grateful to him for what he did and how far he took us. But one thing I cant stand is throwing the players under the bus. As a coach whenever my boys lost it was my fault for not preparing them. When they won it was to their credit and due to their effort and their execution. Cut needs to resign. It's time.

Good for those guys. They don't have to fuffer further embarrassment at Cut's hands, and many have the ability to go somewhere they can be properly trained and placed in the proper positions. So what do we have left? Cupboard looks bare.

I’m rather stunned that there has been announcement by Duke by now. Nothing has happened in the last 6 weeks that was unexpected, so it can’t be that yesterday they started thinking about his dismissal for the first time. Time is not our friend, as there are so many coaching vacancies out there that the best and brightest are going to have been approached. There are a number of possible explanations for no announcement by now, most of which are not good, and all of which threaten our ability to retain existing talent and attract recruits. This does not appear to being handled well.
