i feel for you JRob. Dude put in 5 years and just came on strong. Now? Nothing. An empty ending. He was becoming Dukes starting 4, and easy to say, but he made Duke better from what I saw. Maybe NCAA gives him and Jack and Jav another year? Crazy talk?

Would loved to seen how he performed in the tourney. I don’t think you could have rattled him.
Another chance? Don’t see it

I don’t see how they can give them another year because a lot of teams finished their season (UNCheat)..

It would be nice if the NCAA gave seniors another year because of missing out on postseason tournaments because of the coronavirus but one problem that would come up would be that teams would have to/need to offer those players a scholarship but a lot of teams might not have an open scholarship for seniors even if they got a chance to have another season because of the coronavirus.

Heard from a birdie that the additional eligibility for seniors in basketball is growing legs.....
I just don’t think that’s a good idea. I mean as much as i feel for guys like J-Rob and other seniors it’ll just cause a bunch of controversy. We’d have transfers and possibly guys who decommit due to scholarships and playing time. But the biggest problem is teams like UNC who already had their season end will get their seniors back as well. It’ll just be a big mess in my opinion.

I don't see seniors being given another year of eligibility. Maybe if the season was canceled halfway in? But to have everything done except 2 or 3 games at the end of the season for the vast majority of schools makes me feel like it's just wishful thinking. Also, how would that affect scholarships?

I think it sounds good in theory, but not sure how it would work. Would they still take a scholarship? Lots of moving parts with everything right now. I'm not sure I've even wrapped my head around it all yet.

If they were seniors this year and have graduated, would they have to be under scholarship? They are technically not attending the school right? I don’t mean in the unc sense of playing ball but not going to school, I mean, the scholarship is to pay your tuition, so maybe they don’t have to have one?

Really feel for him as he had been forgotten on the bench for a long time, but when called on seized his opportunity with both hands and was our X-factor at the end of the season. If UNC at Cameron is his last game, he has a heck of a highlight tape to share with his future kids etc! Going out on a high.

I’m just guessing at this but imagine that players would probably have to be enrolled in some form of classes in order to be able to play even though they’ve graduated. So if they would have to be enrolled in some form of classes then unless they or their families could pay for that extra year themselves then they would need a scholarship to pay for the extra year.

I’m thinking about the graduate transfers who have graduated but still have a year of elegivitly left. Like Reid Travis for ky last year. If he had already graduated, I’m not sure if he had to be enrolled in any classes or not?

I doubt any seniors on UNCheat would be welcomed back or would want to go back after their coach and fans shit on them all year.

They have to be in graduate school.

Agreed. Half of the teams that make postseason play only 1 additional game. Another 25% play only 2 extra games. Giving an additional year for missing 1 or 2 games is ludicrous.

I think if the NCAA grants a 5th year of eligibility to seniors that this will hurt Duke. I love J-Rob, do I think J-Rob, Jack, or Javin are nearly as impactful as some of the seniors that other programs would return?? No. Not even close.
Imagine Cassius Winston coming back to MSU, we play them in November.

Most programs don't have the benefit of bringing in a dominant recruiting class every single year. Duke does. We have replacements for every guy we are losing.

I get what you’re saying but with everyone talking about giving seniors an extra year of eligibility, I don’t think it’s as much about being able to replace those seniors next season as it is about those seniors missing out on being able to play in the postseason (whether it’s the conference tournaments or the NCAA Tournament) for the last time in their college career and for some it might’ve been their first time getting to play in the NCAA Tournament if they go to a school that doesn’t regularly make the NCAA Tournament. So I think that’s why so many people feel bad for seniors because they’re either potentially missing out on playing in their last conference tournament or NCAA Tournament or their potentially missing out on playing in their last NCAA Tournament.

Expanded scholarship counts on each team. Students can go post grad courses or a secondary major.....I agree with you though, it would be a challenge to pull off. K also made a hint at it in a video today.

Just announced the NCAA is working on this right now for all SENIORS who didn’t get to compete on conference tourney or the NCAA to come back and they are including winter sports

I get it, it's a great thing for the NCAA to do, lord knows they could use a positive warm story about them and the way they handle things. I'm not against it, I'm just saying that from a Duke perspective that this will not be beneficial for Duke.
Wasn't Jack Mooney a senior?? ND wasn't gonna make the tournament, he gets a full season again for just missing 1 or 2 conference tournament games? That guy could destroy us on the glass next year.

You bring up a good point. We wouldn’t be the only one getting guys back.

They considered a 16 team tourney to play at a later date but decided against it...

DO IT

play the dang tourney in May with whatever teams are willing to come

It’ll be tricky with PT. I would Alex bolts, jack goes home, jav and JRob return. I am hard on Jav but Duke and Williams could use him.

I sW this on RR. It looks like the NCAA could be considering another year of eligibility for student athletes that have participated in Spring-sports and they’re also going to discuss issues for Winter sports student-athletes.

I’m not sure how they would give eligibility to some but then teams like UNC had their season officially over before any games were canceled.

So is it official seniors can play next year. I'm not sure if basketball is considered a spring sport or not

No it’s a winter sport. They’re thinking about doing the same for winter sports but they shouldn’t.
