duke football news

so here is my take on the portal
QB
2ea transfer
need to bring in 2
RB
as of now no transfers and Star is appealing for another year
need none depending on Star's status
WR
4ea graduating
need to bring in 1-2
TE
Nicky graduating
need to bring in 1-2
OLINE
only Krings is graduating
need 1-2 (OT in my mind)
DLINE
2ea de and 3ea dt graduating
need 1-2 maybe. best and deepest class coming in that i can remember plus no one transferring as of yet
LB
2ea transfers and 3 graduating
need 1-2. once again just a monster class coming in again
DB
4 grads
need to bring in 2-3

this is based on the transfer out that we have as of now. might change after spring ball but i kinda think everyone has really bought in to
the program.

Surf, are you counting on a number of freshmen playing right away? Seems like it. Because I think the need for wide receivers, defensive backs, O linemen and linebackers is even greater than you say.

okay i did the research so here goes
OLINE
graduating caleb krings
transfers none so far
IOL RETURNERS
bradley smith 6'2'' 290
gemyel allen 6'3'' 310
matt maycraft 6'3'' 300 (rotating starter rg)
zachary franks 6'6'' 310
reagan mccranie 6'2'' 315
justin pickett 6'7'' 317 (main starter lg)
jack purcell 6'5'' 305
eric schon 6'2'' 305 (main starter c)
we return multiple starters in the center of the line and bradley and gemyel have been getting raves from staff and players. look for them to push the starters next year
OT RETURNERS
brian parker 6'5'' 300 (main starter rt)
micah sahakian 6'5'' 320 (rotating starter)
bruno fina 6'5'' 300
james pogorelc 6'8'' 300
caleb dorris 6'6'' 320
jack small 6'6'' 290
once again 4 guys who started games back and 2 frosh who have now had a year in the system to grow and strengthen
INCOMING FRESHMAN
jamin brown 6'4'' 285 IOL early enrollie
evan scott 6'5'' 300 OT early enrollie
roma fina 6'5'' 250 OT
cole allen 6'6'' 265 OT
daniel boyd 6'4'' 290 IOL
kai jacobwitz 6'8'' OT
huge and talented group coming in. our two highest rated kids are both early entries so just more ready depth for next fall

that's 20 kids here already with multiple starters back (as of now)
they will also have the bowl practices and all the other practices before next season to gell.
i wouldn't mind a nice OT who could be a rotational starter but that's all i think we need

LINEBACKERS
graduating ozzie nichols, alex howard and cameron bergeron
transfering montrez smith and carter wyatt (both of whom saw little play)
RETURNERS
tre freeman 6' 230lbs (12 games played)
nick morris 6'3'' 236lbs (starter that got injured)
kendall johnson 6'3'' 223lbs rfr (11 games played)
derrick brown 6'1'' 220lbs frosh
luke mergott 6'3'' 220lbs rfr (12 games played)
between tre, luke and kendall we have multiple game players back. also nick was to be a starter till injury.
kendall and luke were redshirt frosh who will have another year in the program plus game experience
cameron was the hybrid s/lb and we rotated several players in that spot that are back
INCOMING
bradley gompers 6'5'' 215lbs
elliot schaper 6'3'' 210 early enrollie
asher washerman 6'2'' 220 lbs
most talented group we have gotten.

i think we need 1 or 2 upperclassmen transfers but no more since we only have 2 lb's and the hybrid on the field during the game

WR'S
graduating jordan, eli, javon and jontavis
RETURNING
que'sean brown 5'8'' 165lbs
sahmir hagans 5'10'' 188lbs
jayden moore 5'8'' 180lbs
all the slot/jitter bug routs covered
chase tyler 6'2'' 188lbs
spencer jones 6'4'' 205lbs
two large frosh who will have had a full year in the program so will they blossom?
INCOMING
jamien little 6'1'' 175lbs early enrollie
jaivon solomon 6'1'' 170lbs
qeanu johnson 6'1'' 190lbs
kavon simmons 6'1'' 170lbs early enrollie
you can see we want bigger guys now.

i think two over 6' guys are the target.
jamien is the highest rated wr recruit i can remember (bracey doesnt count). normally i say a frosh cant make an impact but who knows?
this where i think the difference next year will be (hopefully) TE'S will catch passes and we diversify our offense so how many receivers do we need?

FYI jamien little got a shout out today at the shrine bowl practice for his ability on 247

Surf, this is amazing work. Thank you! I'm not sure why you post all this great information for free but you have a big fan right here!

There are several guys coming back that I did not realize still had eligibility. I did not realize so many O linemen were coming back. Same with Nick Morris. What was his injury that kept him out the entire second half of the season? Luckily Howard and Nicholson played great for us.

The extra weeks of practice before the Bowl game is like having an early spring practice, without the incoming freshmen.

Again, Surf, thanks so much.

This is ALL super news surf and greatly appreciated! Thank you so much, and I am excited we have some taller WRs coming into the fold. Much admiration, respect and appreciation for all the hard work surf!! OFC

couple of good tidbits

head coach of ND Marcus Freeman commented that the DUKE home crowd was one of the toughest atmospheres they have faced

from the shrine bowl
todays comment on Jamien Little
''the Hickory NC native has a deep bag of moves to quickly create separation off the line of scrimmage and is the most polished route runner in attendance for the shrine bowl''
WHAT A HUGE LATE FLIP!!!!!

Guys, I have to express my thanks to all of the posters on this thread who have transformed it into a passionate and informed place to keep up with our football team. DI’s coverage of the football team really vanished for a number of years, partly due to the decline of the program during Cut’s last 2 years, but also because there didn’t appear to be any interest. It certainly has changed immensely the last 3 years.

Anyone going to the Gator Bowl? I’ll be at the game, as well as the pre-game Duke Tailgate Party along with 2 of my best friends from Duke. We’d love to meet you in person!

OFC

so as of now we have
QB transfer Mensah
DL Greene
WR Anthony
S Weaver
what do we still need?
i think one grad QB for depth this year
only hole in RB room is that ''big'' guy that gets the hard yards
still think one more taller WR
have not addressed TE yet
another CB for depth/rotation
also would not be surprised if most of these get addressed after the spring surge of transfers after people figure out who is on the 2deep

Have we brought in another kicker or punter? What If Todd or the Aussie punter get hurt or go through a sustained slump? I think special teams are critical and obviously did us not favors this past season (Todd did have some nice kicks down the stretch after the SMU debacle).
