yeah he is also very underrated (like the safety that just committed earlier this week) on rivals. he is much better than a low level 3 star. he is an 89 borderline 4 star on 247. 88 upper 3 star on On3. 79 borderline 4 star on ESPN. i think in the spring IF rivals re-grades (OR ACTUALLY GRADES) these kids they will make a large jump

There are a lot of important players to replace next year. The flip side is there is a lot of opportunity for the next wave. Fortunately, we should have a lot of experience back on our O line.

Those linebackers Howard and Nicholas that Manny brought in were soooo valuable! They won games for us.

I noticed some names in on plays on Saturday that I hadn't heard much this season. Nice to get some of the young guys some meaningful PT this season, and the practice for the next month before a bowl will help as well.

I missed Conor's article (if there was one) on his All ACC picks. Glad to see Parker on the first team and of course Pancol and Nicholas on the 2nd team. I hope they get recognized by other writers. Not sure I agree on the punter for 3rd team, I wasn't that impressed with him this season.

If you're talking about the article posted on this website, that is my All-ACC ballot.

The actual team doesn't get announced until tomorrow afternoon.

Here is the link.

So with signing day this Wednesday. Duke is in really good shape. The only real question is Gompers. Does he sign or does he flip? He might also wait to commit till spring because his school does not allow early graduation so he is really in no rush.
Interesting side note is that Javion Gordon has told some people that he will sign with Duke even though he decommitted a few weeks ago. I don't know but that will be interesting to see what happens.
Let's get these guys on board and then let's see who transfers out to see what we need for next year. Don't forget Manny was hired well into the portal last year so he will be in much better shape this year. Not that he missed on much last year 🤓. Most of the kids he did get had a really good impact for us

so Conor was just wondering if there is any news you can share on the Wake front. they really did not have a good year and my winston friends seem to be frustrated by the programs direction. you cant say that the university is not spending money on athletics because it is crazy how much and how attractive everything is up there now. i remember going to a game there in the 80's when mike elkins was the qb and that was not an attractive area. i saw the plans for that entertainment venue/area that will be built and man that is fantastic

It's basically a "no news is the news" situation.

I'd be shocked if Dave Clawson is fired. There was a time this season that I thought he was headed toward a resignation because of how exasperated/frustrated he is with the college athletics landscape. But over the last couple of weeks he's seemed pretty energized by revenue sharing and how that's not exactly going to level the playing field, but at least reduce Wake's competitive advantage.

The entertainment venue area stuff is fun to dream about but that all seems like it's 10 years away from completion.

Hey surf, any worries on Nate Sheppard ? He took an official to ole miss a few weeks ago. We really need some speedy backs like him. I hope we hang onto Gompers, seems like a guy that would get recruited over in Penn state but would prolly start day one for us

supposedly not. of course his season ending injury did not help him with the big fish. that being said things can happen that no one expects but he told an insider on another site he was signing. it doesn't matter in todays ncaa you have to keep recruiting 24/7 even if you do have a signature. Manny seems to know and understand this.

i am a self confessed sports junkie. i go to all the sites and read the threads on every teams sites. i have been really surprised how many people say Duke is able to match NIL money with anyone. Manny has the Duke donors jumping on board big time evidently. NC State, UNC and even the Michigan sites are talking about it. they are saying if we want someone we can match funds with anyone. the coaches at both state and chapel hell are asking for money saying we are beating them. WOW what a change. i (in my mind) think this almost might be a repercussion of FAT ELMO leaving the way he did. i think he pissed the people off who mattered and they have stepped up

That's great to hear, Surf! Duke has the ability to be a T25 team every year. They just need the investment internally and externally.
I also love Manny as the HC. He did a great job this year!

Thanks Conor. Am I correct in saying that while verbal commitment defections are commonplace, there are relatively few written commitment defections?
That's kind of the gist. It just basically has to do with there actually being paperwork and procedure involved with getting out of a letter; verbal commits and decommits are literally just saying (or social-media posting) what you're doing.

I'd argue that verbal defections aren't even that common, they've just become a flashpoint because we still use the word "commitment" for them like they're supposed to be binding. And the ones who are told by coaches that they no longer have a spot, and are basically decommitted by the team instead of because the kid has changed his/her mind, go mostly unreported. But that's a separate conversation.

so i really like Manny's press conference. he thinks somewhere around 13 kids will be enrolling early which is big. also said that in regards to the portal that this year instead of the ''shotgun'' approach used last year we will be more like a ''sniper rifle'' in that we will be selective in who we take.
i still think OT, TE, RB and DT will be in the front of the line

Has anyone noticed how far down in the rankings UNx is, with only 9 commitments? Is this part of the reason Mac was fired, or is it a result of his being fired?

Conor, there are a few fairly material differences between the height/weight shown in the article and the stats next to the players’ bios. I’m sure that in many cases it’s because they grew, but in several cases they seemed to have gotten smaller. What’s the reason? Mahan is a good example. I had thought he was a logical choice to go the Jordan Moore route, but it appears he’s gotten bigger and may still be a viable QB prospect.

And speaking of Jordan Moore, he gets my vote as Unselfish Duke Player of his class. Recruited as a QB, he shifted to WR and became one of the best receivers in the ACC, if not the country, in the process not only giving our team a huge lift, but making him a legitimate NFL prospect.

It's a good question that I don't really have a hard-and-fast answer.

Some of the prospect heights and weights are from when kids go to Rivals camps, so they're legitimately weighed and measured -- feel good about the accuracy of those. But those are in the spring and summer, so kids obviously get bigger, as you noted.

Some of them just get updated throughout the year through players telling myself or others to change them -- feel less confident in the accuracy of those, since it's just basically taking them at their word.

I used the heights and weights provided by Duke because I think the way this works is Duke's program gets questionnaires back from recruits, and those would theoretically be the most up-to-date measurements. But again, that's not actually measured.

One final thought ... I don't trust much in their heights and weights until the July/August update because that's when they're actually on campus and have gone through summer with Feeley.
