I think his uncle played basketball at NC State cj Hairston he led the wolfpack in scoring one year. This kid is a good basketball player and if he grows any taller will most likely choose basketball. For some reason the cheats haven't been mentioned but Wake was first to offer before he started highschool

I hope he stays with Duke and he would be great to come in after Riley
Henry Belin III might have something to say about that. And Loftis. This kid looks like a keeper but not someone who automatically leaps to the top of the depth chart.

The thing about a 5-11 quarterback who runs a 4.45 is that there are other positions he can play if it turns out he's too small for QB.

Agree some of the best receivers were quarterbacks in highschool

So our second elite Jr weekend is now over. Will be fun to see if any of the guys from this weekend pull the trigger. This weekend was a notch up on recruits so normally I would not expect any commitments but last proved me wrong. GO ELKO
Coach is a VERY persuasive guy. So, I am betting we get something good out of this weekend.

Updated with them linked in the story -- you'll have to let me know if the story is too slow to load, though. It might just be an issue with my laptop.
Excellent production Conor!!! Wow I cannot believe Clemson is opening here!!! The eyes of the college football world will be on Durham on Labor Day!!!

7-5 or even 8-4 is very realistic assuming we continue the progression next season. Top 25 is a very realistic goal.

OK. I see 5 likely wins: Lafayette, NW, CT, WF, and UVA. 4 games in which Duke will be a decided underdog: Clempsun, ND, NCSU, FSU. 3 games which, based on last year's performance, I would rate as toss-ups: Louisville, UNC, and Pitt. So, on first glance, 8-4 seems achievable if we win all 3 toss-ups. Clempsun, ND, and NCSU are all at Duke, so we may be able to steal a win there. If we are lucky and injury free, 9-3 is not totally out of the realm of possibility. Nice to be optimistic again this time of year. OFC

I haven't been this optimistic in an off-season since the Spurrier years. ANY team can no longer take a Saturday off against Duke and simply wait for the Devils to implode. A team now truly has to BEAT DUKE. We won't beat ourselves. Elko won't allow it. OFC

I like and agree with this analysis. I like 8-4, as well. Duke will likely lose one they probably shouldn't (toss up game) and win one they probably shouldn't. It's great to be this excited about Duke FB this time of year.

I thought the coaches liked Luca at the beginning of the year and then we didn't see him on the field. I hope he makes a complete recovery and can get back on the field.

In fall camp I thought (and wrote) that Luca had a chance to take some meaningful snaps at receiver, but he wound up being just outside making the rotation. I thought I'd mentioned the ACL injury at some point, my bad if I didn't.

Luca Diamont is an excellent athlete. It was quite evident when he played sparingly at qb as a true freshman for Cut. He possesses good speed, and I was very excited for him when Conor gave him plaudits for his play at wideout in Elko's preseason camp.

I am so sorry to learn of his torn ACL, and wish him a full and complete recovery. If Luca sticks around, I predict he will help us to some degree on the gridiron!!!

so per the experts over at 247 it looks like center will be his position at duke but this is really early. he still has a year and half to grow so who knows
Not to say that's false, but they typically just designate who's going to be an interior guy and who's going to be a tackle. Smith will be on the interior but as you note, it's too early to know whether he'll be a center or guard -- and honestly, based on last season, seems likely they'll have a guy or two who rotate at both during games.

really good pick up for us. solid size at 6'2'' 270lbs as a rising senior. DT is always a need.
he camped recently at duke and really impressed the coaches with his impact and quick first step.
has a good offer list
P5 offers include duke, wake, nc state, pitt, louisville and iowa st
solid G5 offers like coastal, ecu, liberty and marshall
if pitt likes him you know he is good

Great pick-up!! Part of Pitt's dominance of us the last 7 years has been in the trenches!! They are historically known for big and ferocious linemen!!! SUPER GET!!! OFC

So they have gone a little more in depth on Preston on another site. Just under 6'2" at 3/4" so on the various sites you will see 6'1" or 6'2". Ran a verified 5.01 40 at the Duke camp weighing 270 lbs which is nice but we don't need a DT running 40 yds. The thing that stood out to me was that he has 78" verified wing span. That's basketball long. Their thought was that with a year or two of physical training under Feeley that he could end up being a very very disruptive player on our defensive front. NICE
