duke football news

so some stats jumped out at me
aaron hall, rj oben, ja'mion franklin, dewayne carter, vincent carter, michael reese and aeneas peebles all got tackles in this game. seems like more kids are getting the coaches confidence and getting on the field so depth on the front line getting better.
5 sacks and 7 tackles for loss. WOW

7-16 on third down and 2-2 on 4th down. thats good stuff
200 yds rushing and 336 yds total offense. SOLID performance
if our wide receivers will hold on to the ball (kinda joking) we will be a hard team to beat.

they have earned this week off.

we have next week off and then to BC. they play and should beat uconn this next week. we should be able to handle them they are physical but this year i think we are just as tough. they have struggled offensively against the better acc teams. will be a good game to see where we are in the pack.

Thank you surfdevil. OFC

As someone who just watched BC in person (granted, attention was scattered until the Duke story was posted), that's a game I'd expect Duke to be a 5-7-point favorite in, even on the road.

BC has one player to scare you offensively, Zay Flowers. One of the best 3 WRs in the ACC. Their offensive line is a disaster. They were replacing 4 of 5 starters from last year, and the lone returner blew out his ACL in the summer. They've already lost 3-4 of the new guys. No consistency up front, at that program, spells doom.

Their defense sells out to stop the run and leaves things open in the pass game. It's not hard to solve; your receivers just have to win 1-on-1s and make plays, which Duke's have done at a far better clip than most thought they would this season.

I am so proud of this group, turning it around completely from last year.

Last year, at the first sign of adversity, they would fold. Few games were competitive after half time. This year, when they fall behind, they find another gear.

By the way, it looks to me like Miami is still a cheap shot team. Several late hits, celebrating when they have no right to. I'm glad we put a beating on them.

another great stat
miami was only giving up 96 yards rushing per game. we got 200
duke is now averaging 205.13 yds rushing per game for the 20th spot nationally.
we are showing toughness on offense, defense and special teams. WOW
Wow is right surf!!! I haven't seen a rushing attack like this from Duke in a long time! Credit the DEPTH Coach Elko and his staff developed in our STABLE of running backs(even minus injured standout Jalon Coleman). Also kudos to our OL, (minus injured Mo McIntyre).

Unfortunately "Mac" is out for the year. However I look for Coleman to be back after the bye week, and be ready to go at BC in 2 weeks. Btw, that's a Friday nite game 11/4 at Chestnut Hill on ESPN2. OFC

I thought Todd Pelino played because of Charlie Ham’s inconsistency this year, but the announcement said Charlie did not play for personal reasons. Any more info on that?

Elko is going to discuss on his timeline -- Charlie wasn't in Miami because of a personal matter.

A few in media know what it's regarding but out of respect to their wishes and privacy, it's best (at least for me) to let that come out in due time.

Elko doesn't have his normal press conference tomorrow (because of the off week). If he doesn't discuss on his radio show, imagine we'll hear about in the following week's presser.

Eli Pancol has an Instagram post from yesterday captioned "🖤…minor setback for a major 🤬 comeback… 🤍"

I've been told Elko will address next week at the Monday presser.

In my experience, though, the whole "minor setback/major comeback" thing doesn't apply to guys who just have sprained ankles. He's third on the team in catches (21) and second in receiving yards (335) and, as noted throughout fall camp, is really the only receiver with significant size.

Losing him for a chunk of time would be a tough blow, and would mean increased roles/snaps for guys like Sahmir Hagans, Jontavis Robertson and Malik Bowen-Sims.

Hate to see Eli go down. Hes stepped it up this year, along with Calhoun. However I really think Elko has a strong next man up mentality, and makes his players believe. @ConorONeill do you think Jaylen Coleman makes it back for BC game? Thx!! OFC

It would seem so on Coleman. Got the sense he was 50/50 to play in their last two games, so with an extra week of rest I've got to think he's back.

so we got a commitment from a '23 long snapper named Jake Ronillo. i dont know how they rate these guys but he is a 5 star snapper rated #7 in the nation. considering the issues we have had with the snaps this year i have to say i am a fan of this. i dont know if he is a grey shirt, pwo or a full scholly but considering the bad snap helped us lose the unc game i just want improvement down the road. conor can probably straighten out the scholly question.

ps read on another site where they had another snapper in camp this weekend but when he saw this kid he knew that duke was not in his future. says a lot about our new recruit i think.
How come Ronillo has not yet shown up in any commitment lists? OFC

do you list and rate preferred walk ons? also as a long snapper he will get a really low rating if they do. maybe not as low as the 5.3 they gave jaylen coleman but still low. (yes i laugh every year at a rivals rating they blow)
He'll be listed -- honestly not even sure he'll get a ranking.

I look at that schedule and see 3 games that might be beyond our reach, Clemson, ND and Wake, and a couple that will be very tough, FSU and the Cheaters. If we can win 2 of them, and 5 of the others (if not 6), that's a pretty decent season against the best our conference has to offer.

so with the bye week peoples eyes are wandering. has anyone noticed next years schedule?
HOME
clemson
nd
pitt
northwestern
wake
nc state
lafayette
AWAY
fsu
louisville
unc
uva
uconn
that schedule is tough
It's no doubt tough surf, but I don't FEAR IT like I might have in past years. As long as Elko is on the Duke sideline, I think we have a chance in any game. The guy is a football genius.

Yeah, again that schedule is DEFINITELY a step up in strength. However, we've played our tails off every game, except about 3 quarters at Georgia Tech. Still we should be 7-1 overall and 4-0 in Coastal. As far as I am concerned we really beat the Yellow Jackets and Cheaters,it simply wasn't reflected on the scoreboard.

Elko and Duke could easily go 7-5 next year vs that slate. OFC

More important for Duke's outside Coastal title hopes that Pitt stays in front of UNC -- 17-14 at halftime.

Every call going cheater u's way. Two Pitt players already ejected for targeting. I would say get ready to get screwed by the refs when we play cheater u but we've already played them and have already been screwed. The announcers are obviously pulling for cheater u. As for woody durham's boy you would think it's woody on the tarheel network. OFC
