Proctor might come back.

The fact that he can't even stay in the court is a downside.
No it’s not . The fact that he didn’t leave after surgery from an injury in practice when he was ranked a lottery pick shows commitment.
The fact that people were questioning Lively and now it’s changed to Whitehead is crazy . The kid literally has not been in game shape all season due to injury. He can literally leave now and get in shape for the draft with no problem yet he’s still at Duke on the bench . This isn’t like Jalen Johnson who thought he was better then everyone this is a kid who literally got injured had surgery had to heal came back with limited minutes just to get injured again and was still no lower then 17 on draft boards .

If Roach and Mitchell return, we should be okay. Add Young, Reeves, Blakes and Schutt and that is some experience. I don't think Roach will get drafted if he declares.

What’s not to say Roach is just ready for the next chapter? He can go overseas. Some kids just want to move on. Plus keep in mind his parents have been at every game this year on the road and at home when he plays .

I agree, but if Proctor and Roach both leave early to play overseas it just seems like guys don't like playing for Duke. They could earn decent NIL money. They aren't leaving for to be a first round pick like Lively. If you are first round you should go I have no problem with that. If Roach graduated in 3 years and left I would understand. Proctor would probably be a second round pick if he declares.

Proctor never had to come to college though. He chose to . I’m not even sure he cares about NIL much like keels didn’t . He could of had six figures playing Euro ball.

Whitehead should play tomorrow.

Timewise, if Proctor was planning on coming to Duke next year then maybe he plays 2 years?

I don’t believe that is a for sure thing that one of those two return.
Never said it was. just a hunch I have . Out of everyone neither of these two have locked down anything they do good except Mitchell which is defense but both lack a lot of skills or rather development .

They drafted Wiseman second was injured think he played two college games. KI went out after 11 games and went number one over all .
Not to mention he had a six figure gleague deal but decided to come to college .
As far as scoring ? He can shoot and everyone has seen that . Hasn’t been Explosive but he’s not going to be with back to back lower body injuries . He has no down side . Get healthy and in shape ( which he will in the league ) and he’ll be fine .
Barrett was supposed to be a special player as well but hasn’t been an all star yet and hasn’t put it altogether . Kids only 18 with huge upside .

I am also with Chris. Wild conclusions about how good a player is, without factual backup, is just pure BS. No one, including you and me, knows how good the kid is now. What you have got so far is some spotty college play and nothing else. To say Whitehead has no downside is simply a very vague way of trying to back up all of the praise you have been laying on him. He may never be the same after his unfortunate injuries. But he has yet to do anything to suggest that he deserves to be a high pick. Being a first round pick and deserving it are two very different things. William Avery comes to mind. BTW, calling another poster "crazy" because they do not agree with your analysis is a very weak cop-out. OFC

He hasn’t done anything to your opinion . The kid has been injured twice and could have pulled out of college to prepare for the draft yet he has stayed says enough for me and the fact he will play tomorrow. You all look at it from a college stand point yet if kids were able to go straight out of high school to the league would he really be at Duke ?

Oh well, clearly, we are going to be debating the who stays or goes topic for a few months. Thats not a bad thing as the board will stay more active. I am glad that Whitehead will be able to play today. At full complement going into the final stretch of the season is a very good thing. Please, no more injuries and let this team play together for the rest of the season.

Which will earn him million$ per year and set him up for life.
I don’t think he will. After lively redeemed himself against the Holes Whitehead could go down as the most underachieving player in Duke hx. Giles, Chris Burgess, Jalen Johnson, Whitehead. The Mt Rushmore of ineptitude

Like I said before I just don’t see where the points are coming from. He’s an airplane guy looks like a stud in the airport but then you watch him play and you’re like Nope

Whitehead could shoot 0 for his next 100 and he will still be gone.
Exactly! It's because we are Duke, and our basketball legacy is more one and done blue chippers, not final fours. I only wish we stressed sticking around a couple years, and attractive NIL deals, rather than our record for placing freshmen in "The League." OFC

2015 kept this model around for much longer. Without that title maybe this garbage wouldn’t be still happening OAD only benefits the players, bad for the fans and the state of the sport in general

He has seven games to play in and practice . I’d keep him to limited minutes until the ACC tourney . No need to rush him back at all .

Still avoiding the issue. Of course, it is very commendable that Whitehead has sodiered on despite his injuries. It takes courage and determination to do that. HOWEVER, when I said he has not done anything yet to deserve a high draft pick, your only response was to point to his not giving up, rather than to point to what he has done on the court to deserve a high pick. The answer, of course, is "very little", due primarily to his injuries. That high draft pick will not be possible unless Whitehead's play for the rest of the season matches preseason expectations or unless he excels in postseason workouts. His pre-Duke potential, and not his performance, may still get him a high pick. The fact that he does not give up, by itself, is not enough for an NBA team to gamble a high pick on him.

I always say this. That 2015 got us hooked on the one and done model. I will admit, I have been for the most part okay with getting the elite of the elite talent year in and year out, as you simply cannot say no to it.

However, the game has changed since 2015 and it's time to adapt to the times. Transfer portal, get older, while sprinkling in two-three stud freshman.

He was starting to shoot well and score in double figures while playing limited minutes before his freak injury . His scoring and defensive potential was saw on the court while only averaging 20 minutes a game . He was in the lottery before college simply off what he did in high school so his mock draft status was solely based off what he did in high school and his potential as a player. He never gets hurt in practice and has surgery we don’t even have this conversation. Kid could leave now and go first round period simply off that and the fact he will only be 19 .
He has seven games left before the ACC tourney and all he has to do is simply play his limited minutes while trying to get into some type of game shape ( which will never happen his one year at Duke) he also has to get over the mental hurtle of not wanting to get injured again . Either way I’m done with this conversation but he’ll go first round .

If I were Jon I would really have gotten on the players after Miami. I would have brought 6 suitcases, and said if any of you are thinking about the NBA after that embarrassment pack your bags and leave haha.

Chris, perfect type scenario. Reminds me of K having the team over to his house following the embarrassing loss to State in '17. K was ailing and Jeff coached that game.Tatum had an ill-avised behind the back dribble at end for turnover and 'Pack won. K yelled at Tatum all he was "thinking about was NBA."

We finally pulled it together and won 5 straight to take ACC T. Of course that was followed by the nightmare seed to a raucous Gamecock crowd, and loss 1st weekend. I think we will see today the extent of Jon's discipline this week.

That’s the consensus It becomes crystallized when the studs are just so so like this yesr. I like Lively for what he did against Carolina. He played his ass off but yeh just as a fan it’s meaningful to get to know the players

Not to pick on Mitchell but he has no business declaring. I will be frustrated if he leaves. Blakes is also out of the rotation for some reason. If Blakes transfers I will need Prozac. On one hand he is a success story, but he also scored 16 points in 2 ACC games, and may want to go somewhere he can play. Jon is giving Proctor big minutes (42 yesterday I believe) so this has cut into Blake's PT. Proctor has made big strides the last month so I imagine he leaves. Right now my money would be on Mitchell returning and Roach 50/50. There are rumors that Roach plans to move on after this year but who knows what the truth is. All in all a bad week after the UNC high. On the plus side, Whitehead is back and looked good and we played well yesterday. But we need some wins.

I’ve heard the same regarding roach, as in zero chance he’s back but who knows what’s really true.

I get it, but Blakes is just lost out there man. He tries hard, but he's just a hole offensively. And lately he hasn't been that great defensively. I know he had those good games, but those always felt like fools gold to me. Right now it's just too big of a drop off when he comes in.
