His draft stock has plunge completely even though he is getting better . This is usually a good sign a player could stay another. Maybe, wishful thinking but there is a reason for it.
Flip is climbing up the draft boards, Dariq and Lively are dropping. Some team will take a flier on Dariq, but not lottery.

I might win the lottery. I really hope we get Proctor and Mitchell back. Proctor must be getting noticed with his recent play. I imagine Proctor and Mitchell test the waters. We don't have good luck with that.

If Whitehead can play the remaining games he’s going late lottery to no further then 20.
I don’t see both proctor and Roach returning with Foster and MCCain coming in and Blakes and Schutt coming back .At this point is say Proctor goes .

I don't think it's an unrealistic hope to hope for Proctor, Mitchell, and Roach to all come back. But if this season is going to be at all a success for us, Proctor is going to have to build on this last three games or so, when he started showing why he was a top recruit. And if he does that then he's probably gone to the NBA.

So it's kind of a double edged sword. Proctor plays well down the stretch, the team does better, but he goes to the NBA. Proctor plays mediocre down the stretch, the team does mediocre, but we might get Proctor back.

I don't think there's anything that Roach could do realistically down the stretch this season to result in him being a likely second round pick. So I don't think he's going anywhere. I know others think he'll transfer. I don't agree (based on nothing more than gut feeling).

And Mitchell is a dog, but I do not think he's showing enough that a team uses a pick on him this year. I'd be very excited to see a year two (and three???) out of Mitchell.

IF Proctor AND Roach stay and IF our current commits for next season don't back out, there is a log jamb at guard. I really don't see that happening. Commits will back out if they know there's a senior Roach and a Soph Proctor on the roster.

If I had a vote, I would take Proctor and Roach back even if it meant losing the commits. I am doubtful that happens. I think Proctor goes back to Australia to hone his game and enters the draft the following year, and I think Roach leaves for the G league, and I think we are back to an all freshman backcourt with backup from Blakes. This is based on nothing other than my gut.

I am certain that Whitehead and Lively are gone. Flip certainly can go but he seems to be a different kind of cat. Just perhaps, he likes school and wants to play with his friend, Power, next year. IDK. I doubt either Proctor or Mitchell knows what they are going to do yet. I have read that Roach has given indications that he wants to try his hand elsewhere. I don't believe that we will have a full picture of what next year's team looks like until the end of May. Mass exodus or finally a few back is yet to be determined, IMO.

Of we lose Saturday that outcome was decided in May. Our guys left, their guys stayed. Hopefully we get a W, but its asking a lot of a young team.
We are home, we are on a winning streak, Lively, Proctor, and Roach are all showing improvement, and UNC isn't the preseason #1 team everyone thought they'd be. I see no reason we can't keep this game close and then anything can happen.

Last year some were speculating how Keels and Moore might play together this year. Getting too many guys back doesn't seem to be a problem at Duke.

How is that even the same ? Moore could move to pg /sg/sf. Keels was a legit sg . Foster and Proctor the same type of players. Roach and MCCain both scoring guards . Blakes a combo and Schutt a sg . Duke won’t move one to sf or go small ball due to the size they will have especially if Young or Mitchell returns . I think the staff knows something we don’t.

My point is we never get many guys back, so overcrowding isn't a problem.

Mitchell, Young, Jaden, Blakes, and Reeves will return. Everyone else is gone. Although, I will say they're rumblings of Roach potentially coming back for his Senior year. Proctor is gone, though.

Roach should transfer to a place where he will start. (joking) Or go undrafted. Proctor is improving so he might be gone. I think Mitchell is 50/50.

If Mitchell and Proctor come back, I will be happy. A return point guard and a tough minded frontcourt player would be great. That would be too much to expect at Duke though.

If Roach plays in college next season it will be for Duke. Proctor is gone. Mitchell, I'd say is 80/20 to return. Unless he blows up in Feb and March he is back next season.

Mitchell needs to work on his handles and offense . Not saying he can’t do it in the league and be a 3 and D player but if he adds a little more muscle and improves on those two aspects of his game he will be a mid first rounder next year.

Proctor IMO , is gone and Roach is 50/50.

I'd love to have ANY of the freshman back, but I think they all leave. History tells us that is the case even for kids who are clearly not ready. The only one of the bunch I think has any type of shot to coming back is Mitchell and that's 50/50 at best.

Mitchell has always struck me as a one and done. for some reason. Would gladly be wrong because I like his game.

Read that Jeremy got a good NIL deal hopefully that keeps him around

I think you are spot on Chris, and most of those guys were ready, except Keels IMO. However as has been mentioned elsewhere on this board, Duke is a VICTIM in a sense of the OAD system.

Its become SO ASSOCIATED with Duke Basketball, it's a two edged sword. It seems like the new guys are barely on campus, and we're already talking about who's coming in the following year.

Stocking up on OAD's annually in a sense, pushes some guys out. If they started as freshmen, they don't want to fight for minutes the following year with a brand new crop of blue chippers.

Yeah, I really wish we could be starting our guys last year Saturday against those @$$h@t$. They walked off that court just barely losers in the FF last year. I would feel much better about our chances. Saturday just has that feeling of boys vs men. However I do have faith in Jon to have us ready. Don't discount having an extra day to prepare too!!

OFC

I think we can win, but we need to play our A game. They have been struggling, but they almost always seem to play well at our place. I'm trying not to overthink this, because this is nearly the same team that beat Banchero, Williams, AJ, Keels and Moore twice. We always seem to get their best shot. This would be a big breakthrough for this team to win. Our biggest win of the season imo, and Jon's biggest win.

It was with the dehydration drink company that helped Paolo last year. It’s worth 150,000 I think him and Bacon from UNC.

Not so sure that Proctor is gone. Do not remember a player with so slight a physical build being drafted early. He is skinny. Moreover, there are weaknesses in his game. Not the best penetrator. Inconsistent outside shooter. Still seems to have a lot to learn. Those things considered, it would surprise me a lot if an NBA team were to gamble a high pick on him in the hopes of developing him in a year or two. If I were advising him, it would be that he would greatly improve his draft status by staying another year, adding a lot of strength, and perfecting his game. Finally, he is very young and may not be ready for the lifestyle. I can dream, can't I? OFC

I agree with what you say even though I really like Proctor. I'm afraid he'll go back to Australia for a year or two until he matures physically. He can dominate down there especially after a year of toughening in the ACC.

I like him the most among the freshman (OK Flip is awesome) and hope that the trend reverses and that he and Mitchell stay. Not holding my breath though.

If we start losing guys to the Australian League, we might want to think what we are doing at Duke.
I really doubt that he goes back to the Australian League. That said, I believe that neither Proctor nor Mitchell has a clue as to what they will do yet. One thing to consider, I believe that the drafting on potential idea applies more to bigs than guards. As for Mitchell, unless I am mistaken, he is not projected as a first round pick. Good player who will get better and high motor but nothing at this point that causes him to stand out.

I have no insider information, but here's what I do know. Proctor played for the "NBA Academy" in Australia. Read that line again. Then, he did the whole 'reclass' thing (he will be 19 in April) so he could come to Duke. Nothing about this suggests to me he will be in a Duke uniform next season.

If I was still a betting man, the one freshmen I think with the best chance of returning to Duke is Mitchell.

Understood. I am simply saying that we will have to wait until the end of May to know for sure about a couple of these guys. Three of them are solidly in the first round (Flip, Lively and Whitehead). Any of those three coming back would be a shocker. The forecast is a bit cloudier on the other two.
