Potential portal players

If we got those 2, we would be similar to this year's team on paper. That would fill 2 huge needs, and provide experience. Young is visiting Duke this weekend. Lock him up! He has 2 years of eligibility left.
Add Baylor and Young, next year's team is going to be a little bit different. We're not going to have a guy like Banchero either way. My biggest concern is our defense next season.

We are also looking at the PF from Harvard, Catchings, but he's only 6-6. he is solidly built though. Averaged 9 and 4.

I'm a little gun shy on the Harvard guys. That said, Catchings is only 6-6 but he's 220 lbs.
Yeah kind of average numbers for Ivy league. Young put up similar number in the Big 10, playing less. Would rather have Young.

I'm not too high on Catchings. I'd love to get Baylor and Young though. Especially if the Green ship has sailed.

If we can get both him and Young, than hell yeah. Cathings has a nice build and can shoot. And he's a senior. if he's happy with a few minutes off the bench why not?

According to what I just saw on face book Kale Catchings is a Dukie. I welcome him. Sounds like he will be satisfied as a guy off the bench who understands his role. Would like to see a defense loving banging savage about 6'10" and weighing around 250 who can make free throws. Any of those available? OFC

Young from Northwestern visiting this weekend. Bring em both on! Welcome to Duke Kale!
Kale's numbers: 9 points
4 rebounds
played 23 minutes/game.
6-6 220 pound senior PF. Sounds better than Bates Jones to me. Nice pick up.

If we get him and Young, then it's a nice pick up. Think of him as Bates Jones, only better. Young could be our Theo. Then go after our SG. Lol someone on DBR just described him as a "better version of Bates Jones." Great minds think alike. he could be our backup 4. Scored in double figures in his last 4 games.

I agree but I just don't think we are going to get a starter. How is an impact player defined? A Theo John perhaps. I just hoping we get a couple of guys that can play defense, a reliable scorer who's willing to come off the bench and decent free throw shooters. If we get a guy who can start at Duke that would be awesome but those guys are going elsewhere. They know what is at Duke already and know the deal. OFC

He’s leadership and a back up semi big at 6’6”.

In other words, we basically picked up another Patrick Tape

I was watching some 2019 footage and he looked like a big guard. He's grown to 6-6. he looks like he could play the 3 or 4 for us. Has a decent handle. If nothing else will push the youngsters and if you underperform, a hungry strong senior can take some minutes from you. He's a St. Louis kid like Carrawell.

Yup, and not saying I want him to be this but every team benefits from a back-of-the-house type of player who makes their team better (good scout in practice, pushing starters to be prepared, acclimate freshmen to the processes, etc.). Seeing as how this kid can be looked at as a bigger guard who can rebound or a smaller forward who can shoot the three, he really has value behind the scenes. I just personally wouldn't expect much on this one production-wise next season but just my $0.02.

I bring in Kale to push Mitchell hard to bring every bit of his upside out . Might hurt Duke after the year is finished but the better these rookies play against big bodies with experience the better they play in games .

Catching's will be a guy who can push the younger guys in practice and will be a leader on the team. I think Jon is bringing in 3 experienced players, Kale is one of them. I believe Young is the other one. Seems Baylor and Green are the targets who are in serious talks with the staff.

He says he wants to provide us with leadership. I like that. Plus he looks like a tough kid. And he boxes out in the video I saw! :)
If I'm Roach or Baker, and he says that he's going to provide leadership while he's still in Boston, I would laugh in his face and make his life miserable until he actually demonstrated that he was the hardest worker on the team

Kinda hard not to agree with this statement. But also it might be just what Roach and Baker need to help this team .

Or maybe welcome him to the team as our 3rd true upperclassman. Theo said the same thing last year, it's why he was brought in.
Him and Theo are two completely different players . Theo was a legit 6’10” big . This is a 6’6” semi forward who has a lot of under class men coming in. I’d think Bates Jones and probably a little more physical.
