OT: Sports trivia part 2.

I knew Dr. James Bonk from tennis. I was not one of his Chemistry students.
He taught for 53 years, wrote his own text books and won every prestigious teaching award at Duke. University flags were lowered when he died.
He helped build the tennis program at Duke. Court number 3 is named after him.
He never married. His students were his family.

My alternate pick is Terry Holland who I think played and coached at Davidson.

OFC

Lefty’s first recruit was Holland who was Class of 64.
Hetzel was Class of 65.I believe he once had 53 pts and 27 boards in a game.
One thing I just found out was Lefty was the first to recruit Charlie Scott to come South from NY to play. Dean got involved and Scott chose Chapel Hill. Both Lefty and Scott were inducted into Hall of Fame at the same time.
Holland did not get Davidson job when Lefty went to Maryland. They hired Larry Brown .He was fired in 90 days after getting into argument w AD. They then hired Holland.
You are up.

Hoops thanks......Exciting HR Derby during All-Star week festivities last nite. Who won the inaugural contest for most homers during 1985 all-star week? OFC

Who was the catcher that Pete Rose barreled over to score the winning run in a famous all-star game.

Correct, take it away Hart.
dtodd thanks.....Speaking of baseball, 1968 was known as "The Year of The Pitcher" in MLB. A large part of that is a hurler who threw 13 shutouts, completed 28 of 34 starts, and had a ridiculously low ERA. Name him, his team and as an added bonus give his ERA...OFC

Denny McClain. Detroit Tigers. No idea about the bonus. 1.74 OFC

It’s a 21st century Clemens teammate.

It have rattled my feeble brain until it hurts. I know that Randy Johnson won more than 20 games a couple of times. He had to do so to win 300. Also Curt Schilling had some good years where he may have won back to back but not sure. I know both Clemens and Johnson played for the Yankees and Clemens and Schilling played for Boston but being a Yankee fan I don't think they were team mates. As for Schilling and Clemens being team mates maye but it seems that Clemens was out of Boston when Schilling came so that knocks out Schilling for me. Thanks leaves Pedro Martinez and I don't think it was him because I can't remember Clemens and Pedro on the same team. I'm gonna call uncle for myself on this one and sit back and see who gets it. This is one great trivia question . OFC
