Zion just lost out on millions going to that market.
I didn’t know about the 2 year deal for the top pick but that doesn’t sound right. Would be a huge pay decrease if he were to leave the way the rules are stated.Doesn't Zion get a 2 year, $4.5M contract as top draft pick? Can't he leave after two years and get paid elsewhere? And of course there is shoe endorsement money which should be huge, no??
Of course he'll be fine financially. But going to that market sucks for him. As an 18 year old #1 draft pick, would you rather go live in NY/LA or NO? It's not even close. Plus, again, the market is significantly better in NY and LA. NO isn't a basketball city. Plus, he just watched a pretty comparable NBA star who plays the same position as him and is a franchise player waste years of his life in New Orleans. I totally understand his disappointment.I think he will be just fine financially
Bingo, it’s all relative. Anyone can say “ohh he’s making millions at 18 just shut up”. The last transcendent player was literally drafted by the same exact team and he’s been there 7 years and wants OUT.Of course he'll be fine financially. But going to that market sucks for him. It’s three years with your forth year option as a free agent. I bet this morning the pelicans phone was ringing off the hook!

agreed, if California broke off and fell into the ocean I wouldn't even bat an eye.
There’s a difference between them carrying a college program to an E8 and a NBA team to the playoffs. What I’m noting is that they individually contributed to Duke’s success, they didn’t do it collectively.
RJ isn’t good enough (yet) to be an ISO guy in the NBA and Zion as talented as he is, I don’t think he’ll lay down a historic rookie season. He’s excellent in the paint, but having him down there also clogs the lane - he won’t be an efficient wing player from behind the arc or driving to the basket. Inconsistent shot / weak handles. I’m not attempting at all to take a stab at him. He is frickin’ terrific but playing with another key guy who needs a clear lane to attack takes away from him. If he has to play out on the perimeter, he won’t live up to the hype.
Yes. Technically. He won't, but could. He would need to write something down at least 10 days from the draft to remove his name.Could Zion technically come back?
Why won't he? It could happen!Yes. Technically. He won't, but could. He would need to write something down at least 10 days from the draft to remove his name.
There is a better chance that I win the lottery at the exact moment I’m surfing on the back of a shark while getting struck by lightning and eating a cauliflower pizza. Why won't he? It could happen!

Everything I’ve heard of New Orleans as a city is that it is lovely.
Everything I’ve heard about management for the Pelicans is that they are a disaster.
Fingers crossed Zion finds himself in a place that he enjoys, with a team that does it right. Money isn’t everything.
David Griffin was hired as the VP of basketball operations just last month - he's been successful in Phoenix and Cleveland. With him leading the way in the front office, and Zion leading the way on the court, things should be much, much different. Would be pretty cool to see RJ and Zion back together as teammates.
It's also possible Anthony Davis lands in Boston. Ultimately, Boston would have to part ways with Jayson Tatum for that to happen... so very likely Zion will get to play with one other wing that starred at Duke.
I'm just guessing here, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you and Zion would live very different lives in either city.I live in NY. It sucks. I've been to LA and wouldn't go back if my life depended on it.

Man the city of NY is awesome and New Orleans is too.
But your hypothetical requires that they can’t or won’t improve and mature. If I was a GM, I’d gladly rebuild starting with those two and surround them with some good veterans and shooters.
Are you Lex Luther?agreed, if California broke off and fell into the ocean I wouldn't even bat an eye.
