I think the bye really helped me to walk off the ledge and calm down a ton. Will definitely be watching this game. Not expecting much from this one, so hopefully won't be disappointed.

In related news, AJ Reed has been named a semifinalist for the Groza Award.

For anyone that remembers that disastrous 2016 kicking, this is awesome to see for the kid. He's come such a long way, incredibly proud of him.

I wish I wasn't working, I would totally go to this game...

They are far more talented but they also tend to play down or up to their opponents over the years. We definitely have a chance as long as the offense executes and stays on track...

GO DEVILS!!!

Pix, BlackKnight both have great posts. Pix I backed off the ledge too during the bye week. I know I needed a week away from it and I really tried to focus on Duke hoops!

Pix is right about AJ Reed, kid's only been PERFECT this year after a horrendous start at Duke as freshman.

You guys are both right about Irish having superior talent and theres the natural tendency to expect blowout. My hopes are we are jacked to play in front of what should be a huge crowd(we tend to be more competitive in front of a big crowd), and this should have a big time atmosphere.

Black Knight is on point about Notre Dame playing down to its level of competition, and thats just what I am expecting. I am also going to say we're not going to turn the ball over, and two weeks removed from the Cheats game we find a way to win this one.ACC Network, for Spectrum viewers ch 388. #ILoveDuke

Know this, if Brian Kelly loses two straight to Duke he is going to get fired.

What you say makes a lot of sense except for two things. Likelihood of bonehead calls on both sides of the ball and tendency to surrender big plays. Should we avoid those issues for once in big games, we may actually have a chance, even with Roper as OC.

I agree w/you! Like the all-out blitz on Pitt when they were in red zone at end vs Pitt, leaving one DB back. The very soft prevent D on the same drive. Finally why do our DBs NEVER look back at the ball??? OFC

That's not good. We needed all hands on deck against ND. It's time for Harris to have a good game against a quality opponent.
GO DUKE!!!!

I continue my standing objection to the ACC Network! I hate you!

Did anyone hear when one of the announcers took a shot at Coach K after Notre Dame was called for a personal fo or unsportsmanlike penalty after a Notre Dame shoved a Duke player after the play was over?

Duke should be able to beat Syracuse, but Wake Forest and Miami I’m not really confident in. We HAVE to beat Cuse and either Wake or Miami for a bowl bid. Kind of a tall order to do.
Operative word being should. But I do think they'll get it done for sure against Syracuse. I feel better about our odds against WF after today. Miami has been up and down all year, have no idea which version will show up. I'm hopeful we can get to 6.

I am as True (blue devil) Blue as anyone but I have a hard time looking forward to any more Duke football this year. The team looks done to me. Both sides of the ball. I love Coach Cut but he needs to take a hard look in the mirror, both at himself and the program and assistant coaches.

i am not really upset with the D. our offense is so pathetic it leaves them stranded on the field way to long. that said, we may need to look at doing something different with derrick jones coaching the DBs. i am so tired of our DBs never getting their head turned around to spot the ball in the air. i also do not like this 3-3-5 defense we seem to be now running full time. to my eye it seems to leave the QB open to run which is the big thing that our D did not handle well yesterday (also with the DBs never turning around if the QB gets past the front line he is running a LONG way) we are finally recruiting real DT kids and now we only put one on the field at a time. stupid. we have the depth to show different fronts to get the other teams O confused. add in a 4-3 or a 3-4 to change our look. the D also got two interceptions in this game to give our O more chances.
the offense is horrible. two straight 3rd and 2 and surprise surprise we run straight up the middle and get stuffed. them there were the three straight swing passes that lost yardage. wow thats surprising (not). the time clock management at the end of the first half was pathetic. what does QH do well? he throws the deep ball. our first few times with the ball we not throw the ball past the line of scrimmage. REALLY? just find it hard to believe that this is all we could muster after a bye week for a nationally televised night game.

just saw some stats on the O.
5 tds in last 14 quarters
haven't broken 20 points in 4 straight losses
3 of 16 on third down yesterday
1 of 3 on fourth down
season low 197 yds of offense for game
we are #10 in the league at 36.3% success rate on third downs

Surf, I don't know which it is, just not recruiting the offensive linemen we need to sustain drives and allow our receivers to get downhill, and DB's who can stay with fast receivers long enough to have time to turn around and track the ball, or the coaching, or both.

Mark Richt made some valid comments about mistakes that were made. On one pass down the middle for a TD he said the defender should have made the receiver beat him to the outside which is a harder throw rather than give him the middle, which I suppose is coaching.

ND was a team I thought that an angry Duke team with 2 weeks' rest and preparation would be able to play with. I was very wrong.

Duke just doesn’t have the personnel to compete with ND.

Disagree. Duke blew out Va Tech by about 30 at Blacksburg. Devils were only a TD underdog going into the Irish game. Plus that same Hokie squad we slaughtered played Notre Dame a 1pt game last week at South Bend. OFC

One game vs the same opponent doesn’t always tell you the whole story. ND just came off a awful loss to Michigan that essentially ended their season. ND plays for much higher stakes than Duke does. Using one common opponent doesn’t equate for the massive difference in personnel. Duke simply can’t hang with teams like them.

Agree you CANNOT always go by the common opponent deal as there are mitigating factors at work. Coaching philosophy and game plans are variables which played into that game Saturday nite resulting in such a rout. I think they were more at play in this instance than a wide disparity in personnel.

Duke's play calling was much too CONSERVATIVE (dives up middle, quick out passes) and they were not working. 3 and outs kept the Duke defense on the field...

Duke's offense is more successful when qb Quentin Harris throws DOWNFIELD....We seldom went downfield vs Notre Dame first half and when we did Harris connected on a beautiful 29 yard hookup to Aaron Young for a touchdown. Most convinced on this board I think if Duke had brought a more wide open approach, the Devils would have made it a ballgame.Playcalling killed us which is why OC Zac Roper has been heavily criticized by Duke faithful.
