Can Jeremy accept a lesser role??

I do not know when Jeremy is announcing his intentions whether to return to Duke. He could return for his senior year (we're loaded at guard PRESENTLY), play overseas, even enter the portal, etc.

He seems like a sharp young man, and I wish him the best whether he's at Duke or not. I simply think with our crowded backcourt situation, it appears his minutes would be reduced somewhat next season.

For some context I compared Jeremy's minutes to Quinn Cook's minutes 7-10 years ago. I used Q because he was a fairly visible Duke 2 guard also.

I realize it's not apples to apples, but both young men increased their MP each season. Cook averaged 36 minutes per game in '15. Jeremy's minutes have also climbed, to the tune of 33 mpg this past year. I cannot see him getting such PT this year if there are no defections.Sure, some three guard strategy affords him more minutes, but I think Jon really wants Mitch at the 3, Flip at the 4 and a true 5 as much as possible.

Please, your thoughts on Jeremy's PT if he announced he was returning, and our roster stayed intact. We would only add a 5. Btw, heard we reached out to Bandaogo yesterday.

Should They Stay Or Should They Go Now?

Here's the yearly thread of who's staying or leaving. I saw last night Ryan Young officially announced his return for next season. Glad to have the old man YMCA game back for one more year. Roach is graduating and moving on. Lively and Dariq are 100% gone. I think we keep Jaden, Reeves, and Blakes. Or at least I hope they don't transfer. Grandison, Kale Catchings, and Max Johns will all graduate and move on. Our walk-ons will be Spencer Hubbard and Stanley Borden. I assume Mark is at 20/80, Proctor 50/50, and Flip 70/30. There's a lot of chatter out there that we keep two of the three freshmen, though. So, who would that be? Could we keep all three? Will one of Jaden, Reeves, and Blakes transfer? I assume we will know it all fairly quickly. The word is after Keels last year, Jon and his staff will no longer be waiting to find out on the last day. So, as bad as we didn't want the season to end, here we are, and we're faced with the yearly reminder of how quickly a roster can change.

Whitehead having more surgery

I wonder how this will affect his draft prospects. Even with the comment that he’ll be ready by the start of the NBA regular season, I’d think it may chill his status. I don’t think this is a Harry Giles situation, but this certainly hasn’t worked out how both he and all Duke fans would have liked.

Shifting winds at Duke?

It could be. Yes, Flip may be an anomaly. But we also got 2 other 5 stars back in Mitchell and Proctor. Flip is our first leading scorer to return since Grayson. And also our leading rebounder. Losing Keels made me lose a little faith, but it appears Jon's plan is working. Even if next years team loses in the sweet 16; I will consider the season a great success. Continuity is essential for long term success. And for me personally it will be much more satisfying to watch. Yes it's nice watching a team come together, but seeing the same mistakes early season year after year was frustrating for me. Perhaps NIL and Jon's more laid back approach will cause more to stay for 2 or 3 years. K was the GOAT but he was pretty hard on players. I love what Jon is building, and if he can keep the bench guys and add a center transfer we really may be on to something. I am very excited about next year. Nothing is guaranteed but we should be back in the top 10 like we are used to. Agree or disagree that things are changing at Duke?

NCAA round of 32 official game day thread- Duke vs Tennessee

And just like that our bracket has parted like the Red Sea. Tennessee stands in our way of what should be a very comfortable path to the elite eight. While some of us are shaking in our boots some of us are looking at facts which are….

1. Tennessees starting point guard, second leading scorer, leader in assist and steals has not played since Feb 28th and will not play today

2. They were trending in the wrong direction even with him going 6-7 since Feb, we on the other hand are trending the other direction going 11-2 since Feb with the 2 Ls at the beginning of the month

3. History.. Rick Barnes is a great guy but only been to the sweet 16 or farther 7 times in 35 years.. and only 1 of those was in Knoxville. On top of that Tennessee has only been to the sweet 16 8 times total.

Game is scheduled for a 240 tip on CBS with duke being favored at writing by 3.5

If duke plays like they have been we have no reason to worry about tomorrow. Could Tennessee make it a game? Absolutely.. should they? No we have the defense to shut them off fully and they don’t have the capability to keep up with us if we are scoring.

Official Gameday thread- duke vs nc state

Duke makes the short drive to Raleigh tonight to play the Wolfpack of NC St. we currently sit as a 5 point favorite over the woofies. Game has a 7pm tip and will be on ACCN.

State is 11-4 on the year and coming off a loss to Clemson. They have played overall good competition with a close loss to Kansas but a couple solid wins over Dayton and butler. This is the ACC on the road so anything can happen!! State is coached by Kevin Keatts who you have to assume is on a very hot seat and looking for some big wins this season. After a successful tenure at UNCW I expected better from him but he hasn’t delivered.

I think we struggle but ultimately win.. we have a long way to go in Jan and it would be terrible to start off with an L
