So everyone here can wait until the last day to with drawl to know about a portal player coming to Duke . It’s good Duke fans want a sg but I e mentioned before dont look for a high profile one due to the unknown about Keels . If Keels returns all this talk about the portal was for nothing and if he doesn’t then Duke is left scrabbling or rolling out the team they have . It’s that simple .
I was going to make a joke that Keels will stay in just long enough for all the portal guys to be gone haha. Hopefully it works out for us but no guarantee it will.
christophero, Mayer can play every position. He's incredibly versatile and an excellent defender. A very important player on a national champion and a team that was a #1 seed this year
No. I get it . We all want the best team for Duke . I see so many talk about this portal player, that portal player but what if Keels does return? ( I’m in the boat he doesn’t ) however I get the coaching staffs approach as well, recruit as if he isn’t returning to cover all your teams needs. But some of the names guys are looking for deep down you have to know they were never truly considering Duke .
Sounds like UNC's staff are targeting Matthew Mayer and Pete Nance. Either would fill the stretch 4 role nicely. But both are currently in the NBA draft, so we have to wait and see if they pull their names out.
Pete Nance was the reason Young didn't start for Northwestern.
As I said earlier, I like Mayer. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. I don't see him hitting shots with his toes a millimeter inside the sideline like Manek, or hitting for 25 against us. The Manek who made the difference against Duke was a different Manek than played most of this season and I haven't seen that kind of offense from Mayer.
But isn’t that college basketball in all. You go to the biggest programs to play on the biggest stage? Manek wasn’t a defensive stopper but you couldn’t tell him that in the championship game . You wouldn’t have thought of him hitting 25 against Duke coming from Oklahoma but he did or be one of the key defensive point in film sessions . All it takes is for a player to be put in the right situation and he excels and IMO that’s what Manek did. He had Bacot down low to man the post which enabled him to do his thing on the perimeter because Bacot would grab anything coming off the rim. To me , Mayer ending up at UNC would be to good of a replacement to Manek. He fills the same roll.
Mayer would be good for Duke...he's a scrapper and a baller...he would be a good example for the younger players

Late first round/early second round guys generally don't come back to Duke. (Mark and Wendell were probably late second round picks last year) So unless Keels surprises us and returns Jimbo is probably right. We all want Keels to return obviously.
The problem with the line of thinking that, "he was gone after Kentucky", just simply isn't true. I promise, this kid was returning until around 24-48hrs before he all of a sudden wasn't.
They all love Duke and want to return, until they don't.
Well, I get that some people will never believe it. That's fine. Trevor loves Duke, trust me.
Was just my thought after that performance that he looked to be a one and done. I have no reason to not believe you that he was considering a return, and I would love that. History just tells us that a kid like Keels goes after one year. Again, I hope he changes course and gets feedback that coming back for one year is in his best interest.
At the end of the day, he's not on the current roster and I'm sure we will be fine if he stays in the draft. I certainly have no inside information and was giving my opinion...you know like the purpose of a fan forum.
If Trevor returns I will be a believer. Because he will be bucking a trend. I certainly wouldn't blame him if he goes, as he is in that late first/early second where guys tend to stick. I think he stays in, but I'd gladly be wrong.
Zion did as well but if anyone ever thought he was returning I got property off the coast of France I’ll sale you.

Yep, I get that. But you've also stated unequivocally that he was gone from the Kentucky game on. And you're right, that is pure speculation on your part. You're entitled to it. No worries.
Obviously, Zion wasn't coming back. Comparing his situation to Keels is asinine. Keels is exploring the draft. He'll most likely stay in. And I don't fault him.
I'm not saying he returns. He more than likely won't. I just hate that our fanbase has become so dejected that we almost have PTSD from one and done players to the point that we refuse to believe a kid might have actually planned to return and then those plans changed.

On the regular? You acting tough and trying to be some insider guru with connections is all over one kids decision. I've said I had no inside information and it was a gut feeling that so far has seemed to be correct. If I know knowing about the situation, you certainly do not either.
I have a close friend in the athletic program at Paul VI (quick google the school in NoVa). So.....ouch. I’m not some insider guru but at least have a good link to this.

I try to follow recruiting as much as I can so I'm fully aware of where Paul VI is. Like I've said numerous times just today, Keels coming back was something that I thought was a pipe dream at best, but it sounds like those closer to the situation found there was a realistic shot of him coming back. That didn't happen and I think the roster is still in good shape. All of this to say, atleast for now, you were wrong about Keels coming back.
Look here I was simply saying that he himself said he wanted to return to Duke you need to slow your role ! I’ve seen nothing on this board from you that says you have an inside track to anything automatic on a players situation at Duke .it’s all opinionated . As for Zion look at his interview on K’s pod cast where Zion clearly said he wanted to return but K told him he needed to go especially since he was going to be the top pick. Just like Scheyer told Keels he supported him with his decision. What do think a coach is actually going to tell a kid to stay when he’s predicted late first to early second round .

I would prefer if folks not give sh*t to those who bring info. I think we are all grown enough to understand that situations are fluid and that how somebody feels on Monday, may not be how they feel on Friday.
