OT: Sports trivia part 2.

Its a good question QC, because you think of the Bears of that era and you think RUNNING attack of Sayers and Piccolo. OFC

Who was the QB in Bryan's Song? Would that be the answer. Virgil Carter was a QB in Butkus' day too. OFC

I don’t really have anymore clues. It’s Bobby Douglas. Someone take the next question,

No problem Q, I got it in that case- I just was uncertain about spelling of Bobby's last name.Turns out I was right. Sticking with Douglass, he set what RECORD as Bears qb in 1972? It stood for 34 years.....OFC

Good guess but no. UNC was on probation for Point shaving. Hard to believe but they cheated back then.
My guy years later recommended Valvano as coach at N.C. State

No. McQuire offered Heyman.
Hint number 2.... Another hiring recommendation from this guy....
Tom said “ Let me see if I got this right. You want me to hire a coach “whose” name
I can’t spell, I can’t pronounce and who has a losing record at Army to be the head coach at Duke?” I said, “Yup, that’s your man”.

This guy is only player to not make the All ACC first team but be named Player of the Year.
Back then they voted before tournament for All ACC but after tournament for POY.

Not Knight. The Coach K recommendation came before he even started to work at Duke. He was hired as asst AD but had not started drawing a salary. His high school coach from Scranton had told him about Coach K. After seeing Coach K hold a practice before a Army Navy game he knew he was the man for Duke.

This guy played all out on every play . Dove on the court for loose balls.
Drafted by Golden State but chose to play in ABA.

One of my favorite Duke players ever. Jeff Mullins was working a camp in NY and told Bubas to come see this kid .
Did not realize he told Butters about K.
You are up

That was a great question and the hints really helped. OFC
If you google Vacendak you will find a great interview video he did where he talks about his recruitment and about playing days. Did not know until today he lost his son Steve Jr to a motorcycle accident at App State. I met him in 1967 at the old basement pub the Holfbrau near Top’s Drive inn.

Besides Daniel Jones which other Duke QB played for the NY Giants ? OFC

After Laettner's shot against Kentucky, I suppose its rather easy to overlook the one he nailed to beat UConn and advance to '90 Final Four.

It was a designed play Duke had in its arsenal K called when he saw the Huskies defensive alignment. What was the name of that play?

OFC

It was called the Christian Special. Maybe the Laettner Special but I'm going with the Christian Special. OFC
