OT: Sports trivia part 2.

SWITCHING to baseball, former all star and announcer Ralph Kiner once said "Two-thirds of the earth is covered by water, the other third by.........."

Who was this outfield defensive ace of the 70s and 80s??

OFC

I would have a couple other guesses as well, Blair first to pop into my head, but a couple others seem more fitting.

Man, there are some good speedy centerfieders from that era. Kiner was the Mets voice, but I can't think of a Met that sticks out as that type.

Maybe Gary Maddux from Philly ???

GOOD GOING DT! Maddux indeed who played for the Giants and Phillies! You are up sir! OFC

I will mix baseball and ACC hoops. What starter from an ACC National Champion basketball team went on to pitch in the World Series during his professional career?

The '69 miracle Mets had great pitching
with Tom "Terrific" Seaver, who had 25 wins against only 7 losses, and a 2.21 ERA. They had a lefty second starter Jerry Koosman who won 17 games w/a 2.28 ERA. In addition they had a very young pitcher in the bullpen who was a spot stater. This youngster would eventually become the MLB STRIKEOUT KING. NAME HIM? OFC

Yes sir, you are up.

Funny tidbit. The only other person to play in a Final Four and the World Series is Kenny Lofton. Both from my small hometown of East Chicago, Indiana.

I actually asked this same question a couple years ago.

Name the only two players that have played in both the World Series and the Final Four?

Yep, could have gone with Stoddard by himself - winning an NCAA title with NC State in basketball and a WS ring with the Baltimore Orioles. I thought it was mostly cool how Lofton and Stoddard wen to the same high school, albeit quite a few years apart.

College hoops question. Jerry West is the only NBA Finals MVP to play on a losing team, but numerous Final Four MOP's have came from losing teams.

Who is the last Final Four MOP to not play for the Champions that year?

Got to take myself out on this one. I checked my answer looking at the year-to-year results (immediately following my post & before dtodd posted), starting with the most recent years, and there was one more player more recent. Chambers did win MOP in 1966. I thought for sure he was the answer. Probably could have gotten this had I thought about it a little more. Oh well.
