Grayson Allen Stat-Tracker

It’s been exactly seven months (to the day) since someone posted in this thread....might as well give it its official ‘bump’ now that the season is upon us.

Here’s to Grayson making his run at 2,000 career points!

He's getting that jersey in the rafter
Wouldn't that be awesome. He has been on a roller coaster of emotional highs and low's while at Duke. To accomplish getting his jersey in the rafters and be able to show it to his kids and grandkids would be indescribable....to just be able to say you started at a much lesser known D1 school is impressive, but to be able to say you started at Duke, won two ( I know, getting ahead of myself!!) national championships, AND your jersey is hanging in the rafters....wow!!

Unbelievable performance tonight. Simply unbelievable. That was J.J. Reddickesque - it was as good as JJ ever was, or better.

Some "by the numbers" things to look at in order for Grayson to to get to 2,000 points and other milestones....

If Grayson averages 18/game over the next 28 (and plays in each one) he will be at 2,005 points heading into the postseason. I think it's pretty reasonable to expect him getting to 2,000 if he stays healthy.

If he averages 20/game during the regular season he'll be at 2,044.

Obviously, those numbers above reflect only the 'regular' season. Grayson can go pretty high over 2,000 points depending on the number of postseason games.

If he averages 20/game and Duke were to play the maximum of number of postseason game, which is nine (could be 10, but I'm assuming we finish in the top four of the ACC), he would finish with 2,224 points. That would be good for 6th all-time....just ahead of Danny Ferry and Mark Alarie, and just behind Mike Gminski and Kyle Singler.

To add another average to yours, IF he were to keep up his current average of 25.7ppg, I know that’s not likely to happen but if it did and we play in 40 games this season then he would end up with 2452 points for his career. That would put him in 4th between Laettner and Singler.

Grayson scores only 10, but Duke prevails over Southern. The 10 points put Grayson in the top 30 scorers all-time at Duke.

I think Allen can get to 2,000 but I don't think it'll be in the regular season....

It'll take a deep run, which we all expect and hope for, and a few more shots taken than the current pace, and also with Bagley taking so many shots Allen isn't shooting near the FTA he should be.

Not a complaint, just an observation.

I still think Grayson is going to get to 2,000 before the end of the regular season, barring injury, of course. He has 23 games left....so if he averages 15 per game, which is pretty reasonable, then he gets there.

Grayson is slumping a bit right now and I expect him to come out of it soon. I wouldn't be surpised if he averaged closer to 17/game the rest of the way. Now, that said, he's going to get a lot of rest (hopefully) in some upcoming games so maybe his average is a little lower.

I'm still having a hard time believing Cherokee Parks had over 1,600 points,he's less than100 behind Bobby Hurley!

Lol! It is hard to believe. He came in with Hill and was part of the title team in '92; looked like he'd become another solid big man for us in line with Alarie-Ferry-Abdelnaby-Laettner- and was solid on the '94 Finals team. But then, he was part of that ill-fated year when we went 13-18 and looked terrible after K went down with his back. But, he actually had 19 points a game that year on a team that just lost a lot.

Unfortunate ending for him - Starts with a Title ... Almost gets a 2nd in '94 ... ends with the one losing season in the last 35 years.

20 regular season games left. Depending on how deep Duke goes into the ACC and the NCAAs - Grayson has a shot at 2000 points which would break him into the top 10.

I remember his first year, poor guy, every time he got on the floor he had Laettner right in his ear

His average is 17.5 right now. If he can do that over the last 20 games he'd be around 1,950 to 1,975 going into the postseason. I'd love to see him get it. It's a rare milestone at Duke these days because the really good players just aren't around long enough.

This and he didn't play a lot his freshman season, so having the opportunity to hit 2,000 points without having a lot of playing time as a freshman is definitely impressive.

Chief started out great then had a really bad sprained ankle which kept him out for about a month and did not really comeback full strength all year but did make a few good plays in the FF

Here are a few numbers I ran.

For 22 games which would be the minimum (20 regular season and 1 each in the ACC tourney & NCAA's) Grayson would need to average 17.46 ppg.

For 24 games (4 games total postseason including ACC), which seems quite likely at least, Grayson would need to average 16.0 ppg.

For 26 games (6 postseason), which is certainly doable, Grayson would need to average 14.8 ppg.

For 29 games (winning out in both the ACC & NCAA tourney), Grayson would need to average 13.241 ppg. And that also assumes that Duke doesn't have to play an extra ACC tournament game due to lower seeding.

So, on paper, it looks like Grayson has a legit shot at 2,000. But that's on paper. We know Grayson plays with a certain abandon, and accumulates some nagging injuries. Even a relatively minor injury (mildly sprained ankle?)could knock him out for a game or two (or more), or hinder his game performance.
So staying healthy is a key factor (yeah, I know I'm Captain Obvious!).

Anyway, Grayson has a realistic possibility (at the moment) of making 2,000. Of course, winning a championship would be far more important to him (and us Duke fans), but 2,000 would be a huge milestone for him personally. I'm hoping for both.

I figured up a couple days ago, if Duke plays in the maximum 40 games, Grayson would need to average 12.8ppg to reach 2000 points for his career.

DiehardDuke, I'm using DJ's number of Grayson having scored 1616 points thus leaving him short of 2000 by 384 points. We've played 11 games and if we play the maximum of 40 games that leaves 29 more games. 384 points divided by 29 games equals 13.2413 points per game. Maybe I'm missing something here or have had a brain fart (always possible for an OFC'er), but that's what I'm coming up with.

Yeah I used DJs numbers too but it looks like I screwed up in my math and divided by 30 instead of 29, I had the brain fart, in my defense I hadn’t been long woke up when I made my post lol

It happens, Diehard! I wasn't sure it wasn't me...I've thought many times I was right, but then noticed I made an absent minded mistake.

Bump....

Certainly a chance Grayson could jump Cherokee Parks and Ronnie Mayer tomorrow night vs. Evansville and move up to #23 on the all-time list. It's still looks favorable for him to reach 2,000 career points if he stays healthy.
