Lots of bluster and broad brushes to camoflage the guilty. Did any of those guys ever "deliver" a basketball player to UNC?
Not just no, but hell no. Roy don't play that.
-Gary

You may think I'm a homer but that says something. He did not say UNC has resources. He is talking about UNC having the name. He could have easily said Dook is Dook or PuK is PuK but he did not. This might explain why we have been missing out on recruits the last few years they have gotten them all.
@heelSince99

After reading that I don't want to hear not one dook fan ever call us unccheats, that goes for the wolpfack as well... we couldnt get 4* kids in our own back yd to even visit and state lands dennis out of nowhere? Dook gets Bagley to reclass and we are to believe its all on the up and up... and we wont even mention lyin Zion...

Yea I'm pretty sure we were dropping a lot of money on 3 stars Luke Maye, Kenny Williams, and Cam Johnson. Home schooled, 3 year player Justin Jackson and his parents probably had their hands in the pot too. Nassir probably got paid 50k to go to a school where he wasn't even promised minutes. LOL.

You’re not that bright are you. You just named 3 guys who:

1. His dream school was unc and he was never going anywhere else
2. A guy who was committed somewhere else and then when his coach left to greener pastures he opened it back up and Roy swooped in
3. A junior grad transfer

That's my point. These guys were starters. We don't get the kids that you do.

While I’m not suggesting Roy or UNC are directly doing anything in terms of paying players, you do realize you’ve had some highly talented players outside of those 3 right? Berry, Pinson, Meeks, Brice, Paige, Justin Jackson etc were all very highly rated guys. How about Cole Anthony? Little and Bacot? What’s the excuse there?

Do you really think it’s just the top five to ten guys that are being offered benefits to join schools? And do you HONESTLY think, Roy is so squeaky clean, or better yet the people around are so squeaky clean compared to every single other program and that’s the only reason kids chose not to go to UNC? Come on man.

I believe that capitalism is like life. It will always find a way. I am not trying to get banned so I feel like I can't be totally upfront. I'm just going to give my honest opinion though. Those guys are not comparable to your recruiting classes. The talent level is just not the same. Pinson and Jackson were 5 stars but the other ones were 4's. I am not naive enough to think that we are above all of this but I do honestly believe that Roy does not engage in the same things that you all or some of the other schools do. North Carolina has just as many resources/boosters etc as any other school and yet we couldn't even get guys to come for a visit. A lot of that has to do with the fact that Roy does not like to deal with all the AAU stuff the way K does. Cole Anthony doesn't need any money and I doubt Bacot is getting paid. Do I think it's out of of the question that UNC would do shady things. Of course not. The AFAM issue was shady(but goes on at every freaking school). I think that we all have dirt on our shoes but ours is just a tad bit cleaner than the rest. Even recruits will tell you that UNC recruits differently.

You couldn't get them to come for a visit because your school was involved in a 30+ year cheating scandal.

Which is why when you say your shoe are cleaner then most......you sound like a complete moron. Your SHOES are the DIRTIEST.

So are you going to ignore the time when unc was getting higher rated recruits than Duke and kicking Duke’s butts on the recruiting trail??? For example Ty Lawson, Brandon Wright (one and done), Harrison Barnes. When unc landed those players was it all done squeaky clean? How can Tar Heel fans honestly call another school cheaters when your school cheated for 25+ years just to try and compete. You had a national champion player (whose jersey hangs in the cheat dome) throw your university under the bus. The only reason the ncaa did not punish unc is because those fake/sham classes were being offered to every student in the university. Dean knew and Roy knew. The Carolina Way is The Cheater’s Way.

I'll take the hits on the AFAM stuff. Are you going to sit up here and honestly tell me that you think that UNC is all alone in having issues like that. You think all of your recruits have been doing Duke level work? I can take hits on our stuff but I just hate the hypocrisy. Hell the wuffies have courses actually taught be coaches that those kids take lol. News Flash. Within the last 20 years we have never consistently kicked your buts in recruiting. I thought the same thing but it actually isn't true. We have very rarely had the #1 recruiting classes. My issue is not that other schools are cheating. I actually think players deserve the benefits. If K can make 8 million dollars a year off of these kids then Zion's mom getting a house or a job seems fair to me. I could care less. I just ticks me off seeing all the unccheat crap when everybody else lives in glass houses.

Here’s the thing that your fans and uk fans like to ignore. Duke and Coach K have always recruited the best of the best. Why is it a surprise that Duke is landing top talent??? Coach K is one of the greatest college basketball coaches of all time. He is respected by many people in the basketball world. Where was the uproar when Duke had Laettner, Hurley, Hill, Battier, Dunleavy Jr, Brand, Jwill, Duhon, Deng, Redick, Singler, Scheyer, Smith. All very good college players in their own right, some of them went on to play in the NBA. Players were turning down unc because they did not want to risk being on probation from the ncaa tournament with the AFAM stuff. Roy was still recruiting the same players Duke was. Why would a player want to risk not being able to compete for a championship if his school is on probation from the ncaa tournament?? The four freshmen Duke had this past season all had dinner with the coaching staff a couple years ago when the staff was recruiting all of them. Zion didn’t commit out of nowhere. The four of them had a text string going long before. Okafor and Jones always wanted to go play together in College and that’s how they came about in committing to Duke. Now that unc is getting one and done players like Coby White, Nas Little, and Cole Anthony, how is unc any different than Duke, Kentucky, and Kansas??

We don't have entire roster turnovers every year because of players going to the NBA. You only mentioned 3 players. Even this year, despite getting Cole Anthony we still don't have a top rated recruiting class. I'm not disputing K's greatness. I may not like him but the man deserves his due. I also don't know how anybody can deny that his coaching strategy has changed the last 5 years. He stopped coaching and just rolls the ball out now it seems like. His only goal every year is to bring in top level talent. Let me ask you this and I will respect your answer. Do you believe that K is above doing dirty things or at least turning a blind eye to shady behavior in order to get these kids? Why would Zion get offers of money from Kansas, Clemson, and most likely Kentucky and then in a surprise move out of nowhere go to Duke where they already had a stacked recruiting class? It just doesn't make sense. Text string or no text string. In fact Nas and Zion were also communicating so I don't know if that matters at all.

According to a lot of people our recruiting took a hit solely because of that so I wouldn't say scott free.

You say this, yet you believe that everyone is paying players..........EXCEPT Roy and Cheater U. I'm truly and honestly not surprised.

I don't think he's paying players and if he is then he's doing a terrible job of it. Roy is old school and stubborn. He does not adapt to change very well. Would he bend rules to help keep kids eligible? I have no proof he would ever do that but I would not be shocked because he has to win because fans won't stand for losing. Lastly, I am NOT judging the other schools. They have to do what they have to do. My whole point in all of this is that people point the finger at us ALL the time when nobody is perfectly clean. Not even Duke.

I do not think UNC is beyond reproach. I just don't think Roy is paying players like other schools do. We have clearly shown that we are willing to ignore and skirt the rules. I also think that Roy knows how to play the game and is not above doing things that might look shady. I have 0 proof of this but I'm not going to act like it's not possible.

LOL, so UNC is cleaner than anyone else...holy chit!

Sorry, this was the part that made me laugh the hardest. It's a terrible thing when the toughest penalty you get for decades of institutional cheating is a few years of poor recruiting, haha.

I forgot to mention Tony Bradley, Marvin Williams. Harrison Barnes, Wayne Ellington, and Macaddo were all highly touted coming out of high school. What do you expect Coaches to do when they have elite NBA Talent on their roster? Do you expect the coaches to beg the players to not leave for the nba and instead to stay in school, where they are not getting paid just to pad their win totals and risk a career ending injury? For example, it would make absolutely no sense for Kyrie, Jayson Tatum, Marvin Bagley, Zion, nor Barrett to return to school. Those kids were/are ready for the NBA. Some people suggest the 2 or 3 and done rule. My rebuttal to that is a kid can go to the military and risk getting killed in war at the age of 18, but if you are a highly touted 18 year old basketball player and have a bright nba future ahead of you, you have to play two or three years in college before you can go earn your money, it makes zero sense. As for Coach K not doing any coaching that’s laughable. Who calls the plays when Duke needs a bucket?? Or when they switch up a defense??? Do you think the players just decide that on their own? Did Coach K just roll the ball out when he decided to adjust his 2014-2015 lineup after the dismissal of Suliamon by sliding Winslow to the 4 and Matt Jones to the 3 or when he decided to put Allen in the national championship game when Wisconsin was up 9 in the 2nd half? This season, did Coach K just roll the ball out when he made the play to set Reddish up for the game winner @ FSU or when he made the decision to play Jordan Goldwire in the last 9 minutes of the game @ Louisville which led to the 23 point comeback?? I do not believe Coach K would risk tarnishing his legacy by cheating or doing dirty things just to land elite recruits. He’s at the tail end of his coaching career at Duke imo. Why tarnish his legacy this late in his career? Duke has missed out on elite talent before. Landing an elite player for a season does not define Duke. Duke will win with whatever players they have 2009-2010 and 2012-2013 seasons for the latest examples. Also, Duke sells itself with the amount of exposure their games get on national television along with Unc, Kentucky, and Kansas, just about all the games for those 4 schools are on espn or cbs. I also think it’s funny when unc and Kentucky fans say that Duke players never rep or come back to Duke and you make fun of “The Brotherhood” slogan which is another farce. Players come back to Duke quite frequently to work out, attend games, and/or help out at camps. Duke has a huge social media following and it’s all there for proof of former Duke players repping and coming back to Duke to visit.

You’re all over the map here and have essentially walked back your initial assertion.

Bull city brought it back even further than i did and you had no retort to it. I assume all those guys like Lawson, Wright, Mccants and the lot just came for the love of unc right?

For the record i don’t think head coaches are stupid enough to pay players. Maybe at lower level schools but not blue bloods. Call it turning a blind eye if you’d like, but don’t act all holier than thou because you’re not.

Roy went ALL IN for guys like Zion. Many, even here, believed UNC was a real threat come decision day, to the point we were just hoping he was going to Clemson just to spurn you. If you think the only difference in choosing Duke over UNC is bc we offered more money? That’s just moronic and it’s literally what THR believes. No one would ever choose anywhere other than unc unless something shady is going on!

U should be thanking your lucky stars that Felton got dismissed and Coby was able to come in and light it up on the ultimate green light. Players like that will help other recruits see that they won’t be held back (Little), the same thing will happen now with Anthony. Roy has a stigma that he holds OADs types back. Whether that’s true or not is a different debate, but the perception is there. We’ve dealt with many of them as well - “can’t develop big men” etc.

Roy never adapted his approach- using your words he’s stubborn (your words), couple that with the AFAM scandal, that crushed your recruiting in many ways for those few years. But don’t act like it was always this way- Roy was known to be the ultimate closer on the recruiting trail and it showed with the guys you got (see Bullcitys post). Now we are hot, it’s a cycle, but getting one helps you get the next. They see how you use X player and they can point to it. Coming to their house with your box of rings and talking about MJ ain’t resonating anymore.

As for your Zion question. He was long interviewed during his recruitment and he had nothing but high praise for Coach K and how Coach K envisioned Zion as a LeBron James type play maker. Also, why is it hard to believe that Zion would want to team up with other talented players in an attempt to win a national championship?? It’s being done now a days not only in college but in the nba as well.

My rebuttal to that is a kid can go to the military and risk getting killed in war at the age of 18, but if you are a highly touted 18 year basketball player and have a bright nba future ahead of you, you have to play two or three years in college before you can go earn your money, it makes zero sense.
You gotta be 21 to drink. Does that make sense?

I never said that is the only reason you are getting recruits. K has great connections and has catered his program to helping build recruits brands and giving them a platform to showcase their talent. My only issue and I can't make this clear enough. You all act like K is clean when it is highly unlikely that you all get these recruits and everything is 100% on the up and up.

Excellent point...I have been involved at fairly high levels in the corporate, university and athletic “worlds”. My experience has taught me that very little surprises me any more in regards to the lengths (cheating etc.) that people will go to in order to be successful or satisfy their egos. The unreported “violations” in business and athletic ethics is staggering.

However, I have known athletic advisers to college and high school athletes to recommend that attending a high profile school (in basketball Duke is currently at the top in exposure) will mean far more in future earnings in building a marketing brand than taking $100,000 from say, an NC State. So, it is not inconceivable that Zion Williamson would pass on a relatively small amount from a shoe company to attend Duke, or a Cole Anthony to attend UNC.

I can’t make this clear enough. Wether or not Duke and K have done something shady remains to be seen and is nothing but speculation. I’m not gonna say he is completely clean because I do not know for sure. However, and this is not speculation, your program has been caught cheating and was for two plus decades. So, until some solid proof is shown other than some other dirty program hoping we are cheating, I’m gonna assume we’re good.

LOL. I know K is like a religious figure to a lot of you but guess what, he's just a coach that has adapted to the game. You can tell by watching him answer questions about it that he's not totally clean. I do not blame him and wish everybody would just shut up about this and leave it alone because this IMHO is the best solution for the whole paying players thing. Just keep it under the table and let it ride. Let the market sort it out. Just wish everybody would accept that fact that college sports has a dirty underside because of the demands of fans, the pressure to win, and the billions of dollars that are involved in it. No fan of any NCAA team should be throwing stones at anybody. Nobody is clean.

I've said this before regarding the cheating scandal. I love my alma mater but as a student I can tell you that the school didn't give a crap about the AFAM program. They had no oversight and let them do whatever they wanted. I think some of it was racial because this would not have happened in another program but that is a different conversation. It's bad for us because we got caught. I cannot use the term "Carolina Way" anymore because our reputation has been tarnished. For the 12th time my only issue is that people act like this is UNC problem and not an NCAA problem. Why come down on us for getting caught doing what you all and every other major program does?

Honestly, I don't think every program was doing what UNC was doing. What might have started innocent enough, became the standard. Assuming, with no proof, that other schools were in as deep as UNC is naive. At UNC it was systematic....not one or two people pushing papers.

Now, do I think all schools make exceptions and have some "stuff" going on? Yeah, probably. The NCAA has some really stupid rules. (Remember the one years back where Rick Majerus bought a cup of coffee at the airport for one of his players who was traveling home because a parent had died, only to be charged with offering improper benefits?) That's entirely different than what you're inferring, though.

Accusations can hurt, but in the end they're still just accusations. That's all you have in this conversation and it's likely all you'll ever have. Keep slinging accusations if it boosts you up.
