From some WildMoon over at RR in a 4 page thread (so far) about Bolden sitting out the last exhibition game. They are still soooo hurt over not getting him. I haven't seen Bolden play yet but is this even close to accurate? Many of them "laugh" at how supposed fat, slow, soft...etc that he is. Lot of sour grapes over there.

"He probably had a stroke from running.

He looks out of shape and slow last game."

They are very hurt that he chose Duke. Some probably still think they are going to get him.

Bolden to miss at least first two games

I have always disagreed with the notion that no "development" occurs with these guys during their one year on campus. It is not the career arc of 4 years of development obviously, but it would be hard to look at guys like Brandon Ingram and Jahlil Okafor and say they weren't better players after being at Duke a year. Just because they come in with NBA-level pedigree doesn't make them a "just roll the balls out" finished product.

For guys like that it is about that development on an abbreviated timeline, but it is also very much about finding a way to best use them and maximize them during their one year on campus. Installing systems and incorporating them in ways that best use their talents, and helps the team. K has done that masterfully, starting with Kyrie. Calipari has been really good there as well, though there are some instance to the contrary: primarily how he criminally underused guys like Towns and Booker while using his "platoon" system.

B5 just started a thread titled "Issue with Roy and 5*."

and posted:

"Me personally I've never been quite fond of Roy's X's and O's or his substitution methods. I think kids and parents have those issues as well and it's culminated with a bigger issue that we do not have any ALL STARS in the NBA. Not one player under his time at Carolina has become a star in the NBA and recruits are realizing that. Hopefully this will all change with Barnes. Kids goal is a pay check in the NBA and right now you can't blame kids for wanting to go to program that does that. So until that changes it is hard to see a change happening with 5* recruits. We wanted to believe it was the NCAA probe but now that's lifted, and we still are not winning kids."

This should be good...

Well said. Enough time has already been wasted discussing a grievance that nobody on this board ever had any ability to fix to begin with.

And getting back on topic, here's Gary talking about future Hall of Famer Luke Maye:

Luke only has two limitations which you correctly mention --- reach and explosion.

Only two limitations? Interesting.
Hmmmm...,,I thought it was walking and chewing gum.

I just saw that Garrison Brooks committed to Mississippi State. I'm sure that must have led to some gold over there.

hahahaha really? he was a "lock" to unc. Maybe they think they get PJ now?

That's what ESPN is reporting.

What reason from their scripts did Gary and the gang provide this time?
Was it:
a) $henanigans
b) handlers
c) academic misconduct (not UNC's mind you)
d) all of the above

To quote Gary:

Well... momma sure as heck ain't happy he's heading west. Folks in Auburn expected it to be UNC too, BTW.
Daddy won out... but of course we can hope there's more to it.......

I haven't been over there, but (a) and (b) would be my answers.

Brooks looks like a decent prospect, but I was kind of hoping he'd sign with the Heels. Pretty sure UNC has never had a class with four players that are 3-star recruits. I guess I can settle for a trio of 3-star prospects. It will be fun to see how Roy "develops" these guys.

Swing and miss for the thr goons! Wow! Choosing Miss. State over UNC. That's gotta sting if u are a UNC fan

Ned Cota:
"You know what makes reading this board painful? Dynamite drop ins from uk/pukes like yourself. You should feel pain reading our board. As much pain as that little douche of yours did when Danny teabagged him."

Good heavens, that was 8 1/2 years and 2 national championships ago. #living in the past

Just to make sure I am understanding the Brooks swing and miss...
Brooks father, who is no longer with his mother, has an uncle, who has a baby momma that likes chili cheese fritos and MSU... won out over his mother who knows UNC is every recruits dream school, but doesn't like the third cousin on the fathers side? Seems pretty straight forward to me.

I frickin love Guru Gary!

"So you won't change your opinion when we tell you that both Brooks and his mom told Clint that it was UNC? To you that's still assuming? Hmmm.

Look at that video, Garrison doesn't want to go to MSU."

40 dadika13, Yesterday at 2:19 PM

Yet another poor kid who was dying to go to the Holes but was FORCED by a parent (father this time) to go somewhere else. Several, including gary, are suggesting this.

DeAna King:
"Listen to his words as he breaks down. Sad announcement."

LOL. A couple idiots saying his "mother" looks soooo pissed because she wanted him at UNC badly. Then it is pointed out that Brooks actually says his mother couldn't make it. She wasn't even there! Lol. Idiots.

gary saying that Roy PROBABLY backed off due to the family troubles with Brooks. And he calls their Manley commit a "gem". Lol. 3 star gem I guess. Roy is the only one that was able to spot that he should be ranked in the top 10 of his class. Roy punking all the other coaches and talent evaluators yet again. Damn!!

"I'll add one other thing I picked up from the Auburn end:
They were even conceding him to UNC, because of his aforementioned affinity and momma being sufficiently impressed during the visit.

My guess is that dad must've gotten on the phone with him and swayed him at the end..
Kid was tore up about it, as you can see, and no one looked very happy about what should be a joyous day for him.

I'm going to go back to something @DSouthr said about the family and Roy. I agree 100% that it was an issue, and in fact I'll go out on a limb and say that was a big reason UNC cancelled his original trip to Chapel Hill. I believe the "transcript" issue was at best a convenient excuse. Roy was not likely to risk having him verbally commit back then and scare away other Bigs, only to have this pressure change his mind --- especially not when a gem like Manley had fallen into his lap.

As I posted above, once Manley was in the fold, then Brooks became a luxury --- we still had the room for another good Big no matter what goes down with the Hybrids."

gary with more of that super special secret inside info of his...
"Final FYI on Brooks y'all:

I got info this evening from someone who lives in Auburn and knows the family well that confirmed everything I posted earlier and added a couple of things:
Garrison's mom wanted him to either stay home and go to Auburn or go somewhere other than MSU, and when they made the trip to Chapel Hill last weekend Garrison "loved every minute of it" and his mom was happy with that and was thus sold as well, and did in fact tell the staff and close friends/family that UNC was the final destination. Something indeed happened in the last 48 hours (emotional pressure from his dad I presume) to sway him to pick MSU. Literally no one in the local family was happy including his grandma. And yes, his mom was "too mad" to go to the ceremony.

Really hate it for the kid to be torn like that. I would've loved to get him but hope everything works out for him."

So, sooo sad. Poor kid was forced to not live his dream of going to Chapel Hole.

DSouthr:
"It is really sad that his mom & dad put him in this situation on what should have been a great day for their son they transformed it in to an emotion train wreck."

dadika:
"Another thing that's sad too, he has nothing on his twitter about today either. Usually it's the happiest day of a kid's life and he runs on social media to celebrate it. None of that going on for him. He was forced into this decision."

soap-new and improved:
"I feel badly for him that family stuff sucked all the joy out of what should have been a great day for him."

RoseHeel said:
"If he didn't want to go to MSU (as it seems to be implied), then why go there? Is his father holding a gun to his head or something?

I get that UNC was his 1st choice, but if MSU is as depressing as it sounds for him, why not go to Auburn or Georgia?"

gary:
"The kid is caught in the middle of a family struggle. Not sure what is so hard to understand. I hope it works out for him."

i guess you can look at the Brooks announcement to suit your own views, but he did say clearly the best choice for him and he only got emotional when he spoke of mom not being able to make it and how much she meant to him....
