Favorite THR Quotes....

We'll just disagree. You don't spend most of your time at THR as opposed to DI if your a Duke fan especially if your mostly just chumming up with them and trashing Dukes own players and CERTAINLY not by going around spelling it DOOK. A real duke fan will never do that and will understand why we don't.

I just wanna say I love DI and look forward to posting with you guys for years to come ( if I have years). Nice to be at a place with class and friendship like this board.

Roy develops players? Give me a break! If I was able to retain top flight players for 4 years, I would achieve some success too.

He'll have plenty of chances to develop talent in the upcoming years with multiple three-star recruits coming on board. If they sign anymore three-star players, I might just start calling them 3-Star University.

Don't know if you guys know him but someone called "cameroncraziness" decided to come over to at THR and be a giant asshole. Probably a troll.

I know Carolina posters have come over here and have acted the same way, but it's not excusable on any board. Never thought I'd side with THR on anything but I had to this time.

Never heard of him or seen him post here, guessing it's a troll. Just have the mods ban him like they do everyone else.

That's what I say do. Ban his rear end and put one of those cute little tombstones up. By the way what is his user name. OFC

Never saw him over here so I figured he was a troll. But you understand why I stood with THR on this one. You stick with your own even if you don't like them.

Kellen, don't leave here, but just give that frigging nerd some room. He's a "glider". You just let him exist, he'll either get bored or banned, but he glides under the rules and aggravates the sh!t out of folks for a period of time. He's just different, not a big enough hole fan to not want to be hanging at a Duke board. Just keep bein you but ignore the gliders baby.

Maybe I should stop visiting here then. I don't see how anything I said was out of hand.

Just because someone cheers for another team doesn't 1) make them an asshole or 2) mean they can't be treated with respect.

Visitors aren't a bad thing if they're doing nothing wrong.

Not a THR Quote, but it's blatantly obvious that there's a UNC bias with DSPN. I mean, the Duke student is sporting his anti-UNC shirt, clear as day, and it was at the front on the ESPN College Basketball page. UNC never gets a break.

I tend to agree, though I will always be happy to post the following comments that poster has made at THR. Not exactly words that deserve our respect around here. Always good to know who we're really dealing with:

September 25, 2016 - All I know, is that in the past whenever a dookie wanted to talk basketball he's been treated very poorly. And if this were skysdad or one of the other obnoxious c**ts over there I wouldn't care.

September 24, 2016 - Exactly. I don't frequent radar as much as I used to, which might be a good thing. But all I'm asking is that we give people like coach and physics a shot. If they're condescending pricks like skysdad, give em the boot.

July 22, 2016 - I don't hate someone purely because they root for dook, but skysdad is one of the douchiest pricks I've ever seen.

And I think when those were brought to light he fessed up and apologized for them. Since then I've seen nothing like that again, I've seen him be respectful when posting here and not flaming on our board.

I think sometimes people get a little over-dramatic with what someone says on their home board. I know I say things here I would never say at THR (if I could post there).

Besides, this whole thing started because an idiot Duke fan was trolling at THR and a Carolina fan let him have it....rightfully so. If I could post at THR I would have told the idiot Duke fan to shut up too.

Think what you will. I'm not here to aggravate anyone or break any rules. Just talk hoops every now and then.

Let's all move on, we're wasting time when we should be loading up on the more ridiculous comments I"m sure they're making over there.
Well said. Enough time has already been wasted discussing a grievance that nobody on this board ever had any ability to fix to begin with.

And getting back on topic, here's Gary talking about future Hall of Famer Luke Maye:

Luke only has two limitations which you correctly mention --- reach and explosion.

Only two limitations? Interesting.

I agree and maybe I shouldn't have commented but it just sounded a bit over the top when he said he was "taking a stand." I never called him an asshole (I think), either. Ha. But yeah, I'm over it, no biggie.

Only two huh? the ONLY TWO??

From Gary on PJ Washington...

"Oz, I put it like this earlier: As we speak, there is no logical legitimate reason for PJ to choose uk over UNC.
If he nonetheless does, then well, draw whatever conclusion you choose as to why, and I'll leave it at that."

So UNC is the only decision that makes sense, and if it's UK then there's shenanigans? Never change, Gary....never change.

Anyone see the thread on RR about the recruit that fell asleep during UK's exhibition game against Asbury? Apparently the recruit was Lonnie Walker and they were criticizing him saying that if he can't stay awake during the game then they don't want him but once it was reported that he was sick with strep throat and had a fever then they were somewhat excusing him but also saying they hope he stays away from the team.

Thanks again for your support gas. Hard to believe what I'm seeing but it's over with. It helps though that it's known what he posted. DJ said he apologized and I guess he did in his own way. I think he did take it down over at thr. I can't do anything about it. I have to admit those words hurt. I don't feel that way about him. I don't think he is any of those things. There is no way I could say things like that about people I don't know. He is who he is. I will be cordial to him however. Things take care of themselves. I forgive him. That's the Christ like thing to do. I kind of wish I could meet him so he would know me. This is hard to write but I have to get it off my chest and let it go. So let's just all let it go. A good and late friend used to say this all the time. He was a local high school football coach who died way to early at 47 years old. He has two things he was known for saying. Right before the team took the field he would say "let's go bust em up." And my favorite was when things weren't going well he would say " every things gonna be alright." Now basketball season is about to start so
"let's go bust em up." Every things gonna be alright. It really is. OFC

From Gary-7. I was very confident about Trent Jr until the wise Gary-7 posted this.
"...as are Sexton and Trent.
Sexton (who plays at Pebblebrook down here) has appeared to be (ugh) bama bound, although UGA pulled a last-minute visit from him and think they may have at least have a shot now. However, Avery has more, um "support" behind him over in Tuscaloosa, so we shall see, and Petty is announcing (prolly for bama) the same day, so.... In other GA news Wendell Carter has also decided to announce in the early signing period.

Trent is supposedly down to dook, UCLA and Mich State (heard Izzo has made a big run). Guess we'll see if that package deal plays out at dook...."

I was pretty confident that Gary Trent was all but a Blue Devil but Gary-7 knows his stuff. I sure hope he doesn't end up at Michigan State.

Moving back towards basketball, I do pose a general question for those here.

1) Do you believe that Calipari actually develops and makes his players better? Or is his pedigree simply that he reels in top kids who already had the ability to go pro?

2) What are the reasons for Carolina's recent dive in recruiting? Because I'd be lying if I said I wasn't pissed over constantly losing out on top 15 recruits. From 05-12 it seemed like Roy could pull in anyone he wanted. Now we're diving deeper into the talent pool for big men, a traditional strength at UNC. I want teams like 08-09 and 11-12, and my fellow Tar Heel fans feel the same, even if some make excuses or try to play it down.

I have opinions on both these questions, but I'm curious as to what you think.

Not exactly on topic for this thread.;)

Ned Cota talking about how the Holes don't get the elite recruits because they do things old school and don't wanna play the one and done game. Lol. "Handlers" yet again. Ha haaa.

"The only way is involve yourself with Han dlers, recruit over kids, push them out the door, and run out a different glorified AAU team every year in hopes that they learn to play together by March.

It's not like we couldn't do that. We're huge. We're Carolina. We have the resources to pull off a brand switch like that and start grabbing the OAD mindset recruits. Why don't we? Because we don't want to. Simple as that. We literally hold ourselves to an old school higher standard. Our Momma's didn't raise us like that. And neither did Dean. I'm glad that's not changing under Roy's watch and I hope it never does. You just have to be patient and hope that enough kids get that. Our continued success makes me have full confidence that they will. PJ Washington just happens not to be one of those kids. We've gotta be OK with that if we still want to be Carolina."

1) I think it's a combination of getting talent and Cal being a decent coach. I dislike Cal as much as anyone, but he isn't a bad coach.

2) IMO, Roy is the reason why top flight recruits are staying away from UNC. The man has consistently retained top 15 players for 3-4 years. I've never been sold on Roy as a coach and IMO he one of the most overrated coaches in the business. He has the luxury of coaching at big time colleges and has talent to pad his stats. Look at his 2 national titles, those teams consisted of 3-4 top 10 players staying 3-4 years in college.

gary hinting to those darn "handlers" yet again...

Ozheelfan:
"All that said, I have to question the sense of many of the top ranked bigs in the '17 class.... UNC had oodles of PT available for all comers and some of them are going to ride pine or find other disappointment with their choices."

gary-7:
"Oz, I put it like this earlier: As we speak, there is no logical legitimate reason for PJ to choose uk over UNC.

gary has "heard" that Izzo has made a big, late run with Trent. Lol. You wish, buddy.

Actually, I really feel like Calipari does not develop players in the way other coaches can. Perfect examples are his 2012-13 class in which I believe they were ranked # 3 class. And of Course Skal, Marcus Lee, Orton and Wiltjer and maybe some could make an argument for the Harrison Twins. When Cal recruited players like AD, wall, cousins, his 2014-15 class, they were already extremely talented players. I feel like Calipari has turned U.K. Into this brand name to wow recruits. It's like their fan base has forgotten about national championships and solely cares about how many recruits they can get for one year, then ship off to the NBA. I feel like Cal is an OKAY coach , but he is a better marketing guy than he is and X and O guy IMO

As for Carolina's recent dive in recruiting, I feel like the the OAD theme has more to do with it then the scandal or anything like that. To a lot of the incoming OAD recruits, they see UNC as a school to go to if they want to be a 3 or 4 year player when they are a top 20 type player and that doesn't particularly fit their MO because they want to get in and get out to the NBA.

This is all JMO of course

In my opinion the SCANDAL hurt them a lot.. Nobody wants to be labeled as a Cheater and that's what your cesspool is over there. But I remembered this post by from a few months ago and finally found it. I think this pretty well sums it up. (The following was posted by DevilDJ and it is information he obtained from somewhere else.)

James Michael McAdoo was a projected lottery pick. Stayed in school under Roy and went undrafted. Literally lost millions in the process of not leaving UNC. To his credit he has caught on at GS at the end of the bench.

Marcus Paige was a end of 1st Rd, early 2nd rd lock after his Soph year. He stuck around, and after two subpar season's he is now projected to go undrafted. Again, he lost millions under Roy. Great kid, great 4 year college player, etc but what does he have to show for it now moving forward?

But what I really wanted to look at was the case of guys like Jackson and Hicks. Sure fire one and done or at the most 2 year players. 5 Star studs. Cant miss prospects.

Look at the current case of Justin Jackson and Isiah Hicks

Here is the Top 15 in the class of 2014:

1) Jahil Okafor - NBA one and done

2) Emmanuel Mudiay - Straight to pro's, Europe/NBA- Nuggets- one and done

3) Stanley Johnson- NBA- one and done

4) Karl Towns- NBA- one and done

5) Myles Turner- NBA- one and done

6) Cliff Alexander- Pro/Europe?- one and done

7)- Kelly Oubre _ NBA- one and done

8) Justice Winslow- NBA- one and done

9) Tyus Jones- NBA- one and done

10) Justin Jackson - still at UNC for a 3rd year?

11) Trey Lyles- NBA- one and done

12) Deangelo Russell- NBA- one and done

13) Kevin Looney- NBA- one and done

Others in the top 25 rated after Jackson:

Isiah Whitehead- declared/NBA/Big East POY, Chris McCullough/NBA, Devin Booker- NBA- one and done

Others projected to leave this year ranked after Jackson: Grayson Allen, Romelo Tribble, Tyler Ullis etc.

Essentially 90% of their class in the top 25 are gone making millions in the NBA. The only hold overs from the 2014 class still in school are essentially Justin Jackson, Theo Pinson, Thomas Welch and Devin Robinson. Two of those kids are at UNC. The rest are either NBA players right now or on the way this year. Making $$$ and living out their dreams.

Now take a look at Isiah Hicks class of 2013; top 20 member. Others in his class:

1) Andrew Wiggins- NBA one and done

2) Jabari Parker- NBA one and done

3) Julius Randle- NBA one and done

4) Harriston Twins- NBA two and done

6) Noah Vonleh- NBA one and done

7) Rondae Jefferson- NBA one and done

8) Chris Walker- Pro/Europe

9) Casey Hill- ??

10) James Younng- NBA one and done

11) Wayne Selden- Declared/NBA

12) Jerrell Martin- NBA

13) Terry Rozier- NBA

14) Bobby Portis- NBA

15) Dakaria Johnson- NBA

16) Isiah Hicks- Still at UNC

17) Cat Barber- Declared NBA

18) Joel Embid- NBA

19) Tyler Ennis- NBA

20) Marcus Lee- UK/declared NBA

Others of interest around top 25: Zach Levine- NBA, Demetrius Jackson- declared NBA, Jordan Mickey- NBA etc..

So this begs the question. After Roy has cost other guys like McAdoo and Paige a lot of $$$$$$ in either advising them to STAY in school or not developing them at the same rate as their peers....

Why are Justin Jackson, Isiah Hicks, and Theo Pinson the "outliers" in the top 25 that aren't A) Already in the NBA or B) On their way ?

I have opinions on both these questions, but I'm curious as to what you think.

1) Calipari represents a very attractive brand for players. At the same time, he's not the "bad" coach that many claim him to be. In addition to that, he's selling UK basketball....who, like them or not, are a marquee name.

2) I think there's multiple factors, but first, I won't as far as saying that recruiting has taken a dive. UNC is still bringing in some pretty good players. While some UNC fans might overplay the academic scandal, it also seems foolish to totally disregard it. That's one factor, IMO. Another, whether right or wrong, is that there's a perception with Roy that he holds some of his players back. I don't totally agree with it, but it is a perception. It's like 10 years ago with Duke....many used K's development, or lack thereof, with bigs as a negative recruiting tool. That's clearly passed, and I think eventually this will with Roy too....although I enjoy watching it from afar.
