Transfer Portal

As everyone has seen, sideshow Cadeau is in the portal.

Also Washington from Cheats is in the portal.

I'm seeing on Twitter lots of interest for Donovan Dent from New Mexico for us. Don't know if it's just a reaction from one post then all the others started tweeting about it or if it's legit interest.

Edit: Supposedly C-Well started following Dent on social media

Fellow Braves Fans.....

It's time to get rid of Will Smith. And I think Snitker too if he keeps going to Smith. It's clear Smith should not be our closer. This has been torturous to watch as a fan. Thank God for Max Fried with the shutout. Braves are hanging on to this division lead by the skin of their teeth. Snit continuing to return time and time again to Will Smith has me fuming though.

Movies, TV shows you are watching.

Seems like an interesting topic that other boards have. What are you currently watching? Recommendations? Recently I saw Wicked and really enjoyed it. I am also binging American Horror Story and am on season 5; Hotel. I also like British cop shows like Prime Suspect, Cracker, and the Level. Also Inspector Lewis is a good British cop show. Inspector Morse is the original. I liked Yellowstone and 1923 as well.

Houston and Duke

I very rarely post but wondering on everyones thoughts.

We have always tended to struggle with older more mature teams that are physical. Houston fits that bill as only 1 of the first 7 players is a true sophmore while the rest are redshirted sophomore's, Juniors, or Graduate students. They are also the top defense in the country currently. How well do you think we will fair with that kind of physical play and pressure?

NCAAT/Game 39 - Houston vs. Duke - Final Four - 8:49 p.m., 4/5

Getting this thread fired up wayyyyyyy early to get ready for Duke's Final Four game.

I'll have coverage coming throughout the week. First up is going to be something relatively straightforward about Houston tonight. Jordan and I recorded an episode of Big J & Little J this morning, so that'll be coming online tonight (hopefully).

I'll have more coming tomorrow, a little more in-depth, with some leftovers from coverage in Newark and a peak toward the weekend.

Wednesday is my travel day, so coverage will be on the lighter side that day. And then Thursday will really get fired up, as I'll be in San Antonio. There are interviews Thursday and Friday.

Let me know if you have questions ... concerns ... story ideas ... or if you'll be in San Antonio this week.

Basketball recruiting nuggets

Have learned a few things today on the basketball recruiting front:

-- J.P. Estrella is going to visit in the next month, dates just haven't been finalized. Duke wants to find a big in the 2023 class to pair with Sean Stewart and it feels like it'll either be Xavier Booker or Estrella.

-- The top priority in 2024 class is Tre Johnson.

-- Another "big one" in '24 class is Asa Newell. Obviously the Montverde pipeline to Duke has been fruitful and this would be the next snag from there.

Roster construction -- Duke basketball in 2025-26

March has arrived!

I got a little too caught up in the season and probably should've updated this in January. But also, I'm not sure a ton has changed here.

Here's some forecasting of what's going to happen with Duke's roster after this season:

Guaranteed departures
Mason Gillis (eligibility)
Sion James (eligibility)
Cooper Flagg (NBA)
Khaman Maluach (NBA)
Kon Knueppel (NBA)
Spencer Hubbard (eligibility)
Stanley Borden (eligibility)
Neal Begovich (eligibility)

Almost-certain departure
Tyrese Proctor (NBA)

On-the-fence
Caleb Foster (transfer)

**********

Returners (year for 2025-26)
Maliq Brown (Senior)
Isaiah Evans (Sophomore)
Darren Harris (Sophomore)
Patrick Ngongba II (Sophomore)
Cameron Sheffield (Senior)

Incoming freshmen (Rivals150 rank)
Cameron Boozer (2), Wing/forward

Incoming transfers

The Motherhood/Fatherhood

One of the other great things about this team is the connection not only between the players, but also the players parents as well. Those are the intangibles that make a great season a special season! This is certainly appealing to recruits families as well. I’m not saying previous teams/parents weren’t this close either, but it just feels different with this group.

The coaching of Jon Scheyer

Some of us have been critical of him at times (anyone that did including myself was dead wrong) I keep seeing people say “he was born on third base” that didn’t help ANYONE that has ever followed “the man” all these same folks said Duke would fall off when K retired.. guess what.. we’re in a final four in year 3, went to the elite eight in year 2. We have owned our rival, won the ACC tourney twice, regular season once. Jon is currently tied for the most wins in the first 3 years of a career (I believe he’ll pass it by 2 and win the natty) it’s clear K made the right call with his retirement announcement and choosing Jon. Has to scare the rest of the nation to have a 37 yr old in this position

Let’s go duke!

NCAAT/Game 38 - Alabama vs. Duke - Elite 8 - 8:49 p.m., 3/29

OK OK OK, I'm awake!

Last night -- really, this morning -- was a late one, but I'm back at it in Newark. We've got interviews today, so I'll be making my way to Prudential Center in the next hour or so (interviews start around 2:50).

I'll have at least one story and a preview up later today/tonight for tomorrow's game.

And then the programming note: I'll be there tomorrow night along with Michael Lewis for complete coverage of Alabama-Duke in the Elite 8.
