The New Lounge

There are already clear laws regulating porn with the goal of keeping it out of the hands of minors. That's not the discussion and I have no issue with those laws.

How about just one book? Oedipus Rex. The protagonist murders his father, marries his mother, and has 4 kids with her. Kids are a by-product of sex. And he was doing it with his own mom. The entire play is about discovering this. Should we ban it?

Just because you consider "activist" a negative thing doesn't mean I do. In fact, it's a pretty safe bet that a politically charged word you have a negative opinion of is one I have a positive opinion of. And I think it's a terrible idea for that 11-year-old to read that book, based on what I know of him and his father from a single YouTube video. I never supported that at all.
Do you consider explicit content on sucking dick to be pornographic material?

Not answering

I don't think activism is automatically a negative thing. But I think you were attempting to cast it as an insult in this case. What makes him an activist? Why refer to him as an activist instead of just an 11 year old who was subjected to content that has no business in his school library?
So back to the book in question... have any of you paused to wonder why a school librarian would choose to include a book like that in their collection? Because if all you can come up with is grooming or sheer evil, you're just stupid snowflakes. Anyone want to try to represent what an actual librarian might say? You don't have to endorse it. I just want to know if any of y'all are even willing to hear it.

You keep trying to justify dick sucking content for middle schoolers. Whatever man.

You are one stupid MF'er. Riddle me this, why are Pedo's attracted to children? I do not know the answer to that question b/c it's unfathomable.

Now to your idiotic question. I have no earthly idea why any educator would put sexually explicit books in the hands of minors. Those books do not belong in the hands of children. If you as an adult want to read them, go for it homie. You want your kids to read them, be my guest. However, they shouldn't be in schools where minors can be exposed. It's just that simple.

It seems you enjoy justifying child exploitation. Why don't you elaborate on why you defend children reading sexually explicit books so hard?

Let's assume every rhetorical answer you want.
Now, why would a middle school librarian include a title like this in their collection? What reason would they give? I'm not justifying it. I asked you how someone might try to justify it.

Moving on. Let me find the next progressive hill for you to die on.

You'd rather settle on the simplistic answer that they're groomers, evil, mentally ill, or all 3 than to learn anything beyond your bubble.

Hodgetwins ain't lying

Good lord, it is worse before that begins.

Also, Trump got slack for the grab them by their .... comment that was on a hot mic. Which he should have. But where is the slack for Kamala for having performers twerk on stage at a political rally, and then tonight having a performer rapping about how big her twat is and what she wants to put in it? Not slack from conservatives, but slack from the same people who were "shook to their core" and the same people who were distraught over the disrespect of women?

Frauds. Every last one of them.

You don't understand the difference between sexual assault and consent. Not a question.

Same with a library book. You read them by consent. No one forces you to turn to page 147 to read the dirtiest part of the whole book (with NO oral sex!) out loud at a school board meeting.

Rappers have always gotten a free pass from the Left. Tipper Gore was prob the last Democrat to recognize filth when she saw it I’ve been at college football games this year with fans of all ages and races and the lyrics will include talk of white n—, c—, etc. And you look around and even the under 30 crowd is trying to tune it out
Cardi B is a music industry prop. Nothing there there but gutter stuff. She had a funny appearance on Zach G’s Between Two Ferns with Seinfeld. It was funny because of the other two. She was basically just kind of there, but to her credit she didn’t get in the way of the talented people

So you condone filthy, misogynistic lyrics especially when they’re authored by one of your favored groups. Shocking!

I condone free speech. I don't partake of music or dancing I don't care for, but I don't whine about it or make assumptions about the character of people who like it, either.

It’s hate speech directed at women primarily but there’s plenty of other groups targeted as well. How can you not make assumptions about people who enjoy listening to it?
You’ve been brainwashed into believing that anyone who criticizes rap is either racist, or get off my lawn guy, or both. Slowly but surely you’ve lost the ability to think for yourself.

You act like to make a point by comparing things, it must be an apples to apples comparison. The left has been going after Trump for the language he uses to describe women since 2015. Mostly exaggerating his words and creating false narratives to what he means. But they have artists perform at their rallies who demean women and show no respect for women. Even have women who are terrible role models for young girls half naked, twerking or singing about crude and nasty sex acts. You might think that this is apples to oranges, but it is absolutely a double standard. But we know, without double standards, the left wouldn't have any standards at all.

So when Rachel Maddow, I mean Mark Cuban said that the women around Trump are weak and dumb, he did the same thing with women that democrats do with black people. He acted as if they are low quality human beings for not being a looney liberal. Not to mention, he's just wrong in every way.

It's still funny, but it would be even funnier if there weren't a group of people who are dumb enough to see any of this as being possible. The people who created this are hoping enough of you are dumb enough for this to persuade you.

Uhh... anybody who universally criticizes all rap as misogynistic, etc IS likely racist or a get-off-my-lawn guy or both. It's pretty logical. No brainwashing necessary.

You're right about one thing: I do think it's apples to orange man to compare musical artists' art to a politician's conduct in his personal life. When Cardi B brags about groping other women in real life without asking permission, I'll be happy to condemn it.

Don't listen to it if it offends you, just like reading a library book: No one forces you to turn to page 147 to read the dirtiest part of the whole book (with NO oral sex!) out loud at a school board meeting.

It’s blasted through the loud speakers at sporting events. It’s not like I’m pulling this trash up on YouTube for shits and giggles. Sporting events: you know the ones with small children and senior citizens. Completely inappropriate

That’s your schtick in trade: calling other people racist and behind the times. That’s what governs you on the Left. This is what I was referring to when I called you and your ilk reactionary. If we criticize something, you knee jerk defend it: even racist, sexist, vulgar rap music. Obviously not all of it meets this criteria, but a large % of it does.

Just another shaming technique. It works on the sheep of their party to keep them in line when one of them has an independent thought It doesn’t work on us, though, cus we’re too busy clinging to our guns and our Bible. And oh yeh working and taking care of our families

You brought up racism here. I confirmed that certain criteria likely was an indication of racism.

There is a difference between being reactionary and just responding. If you criticize something illogically or unjustly, expect to get called on it. Loud, profane music in public annoys me, too. It's rude. I'm not going to spiral off into tangential criticism of culture and claim it is a sign of why society as I want it is falling apart, etc. That's what I saw in your post, and I made a pretty freakin mild joke about your being curmudgeonly. And not without empathy, actually. At 52, I know I have some of that in me, too.

I don't consider many people here particularly reflective, including you, so when you claim something is racist, sexist, and vulgar, I'm skeptical of your assessment of all three. Thank you for clarifying that you're not saying this about all rap.

Ben Shapiro more than holds his own against 25 liberals (one at a time). I disagree w/ every stance he took in this video, but he's a knowledgeable and skilled debater who was almost entirely polite and respectful.

I'm curious whether anyone here would see it as anything but a complete domination and shutout in his favor. Like, there were a few people who had no business being in the same room, but I wonder if any of y'all would even distinguish between them.

Of course some dont belong in the same room with Shapiro. But they’re too dumb to know that. That’s the entertaining part.

It’s true that most racists likely hate rap music, but hating rap music doesn’t make you a racist. I’ve talked to several middle aged and older Blacks who feel it is one of the worst things to ever befall the Black community: the world’s out to get us, violence is justified, women are trash, manhood is proven by how many whores you bang, etc None of it seems particularly helpful to becoming successful in our society

Of course some dont belong in the same room with Shapiro. But they’re too dumb to know that. That’s the entertaining part.
Yeah. I know. That's why I said it. I'm not curious about whether you think they're dumb. I'm curious whether you are capable of thinking anything but that about any of them.

And you responded 8 minutes after I posted a link to an hour and 40 minute video, so I doubt you even pushed play yet. You're working from nothing but your preexisting bias.

I’m sorry I didn’t watch your video, snowflake, I’ll try to do better next time. I’ve seen plenty of Shapiro takedowns. I get the gist Sensitive Sally. But, on the bright side, it gave you another chance to type condescending, insulting things on a basketball message board.
Like what was said recently by Mac I think it was, it may be time to tap out and let the other one take the reins for awhile

I was going to run some errands with family soon when we get ready. But I better tell them to hold their horses for a couple of hours, as I have an important video to watch posted on a message board.

Tell me you're projecting and a hypocrite without telling me you're projecting and a hypocrite.

And calling The Lounge -- which you post in way more than I do -- a "basketball message board" in order to dismiss my point is disingenuous.

*Edit: I don't actually know that you post here more than I do. I withdraw that aside.

Again, you are referring to a specific subset of rap music.

Congratulations on talking to several middle-aged and older Black people (or any, really). It's anecdotal. I don't think you're tall enough to ride the respectability-politics-clash-within-the-Black-community discussion.

Or you could wait to respond entirely until you've done the prereq for addressing my query, which is watching a video I think you'll find enjoyable overall.

The "tell me this without telling me this" thing is getting overused here. Also, why are we being weird with a Ben Shapiro video? What's the gain? I don't need to watch the video to know that he dominated Harris supporters. Because Harris supporters are mindless sheep who can't articulate their reasons for supporting her. Mainly due to the fact that there isn't an objective reason to support her to articulate.

I like the Shapiro debates on the history of Palestine and Israel. A lot of the people he debates on that subject provide good thought and knowledge. Of course on most aspects, they both can't be right. I tend to agree with Shapiro, not just because he is a conservative, but because he is more convincing to me. I haven't watched too many of his videos involving American Politics.

This isn't a debate, but I found it to be a solid breakdown on the history of Israel/Palestinian conflicts.

Sorry. An aside is a form of parenthetical statement that can be removed without changing the overall meaning of the sentence/statement. In this case, it was what I set ASIDE between the dashes. My overall point -- which really wasn't the primary point in that post -- remains.

All the countries surrounding Israel want to destroy it. It’s hard to have a conversation about Israel without acknowledging their unique situation It’s also difficult to discuss the topic seriously when one side throws around words like genocide and apartheid without knowing what they mean. Occasionally, you’ll find an Islamist or Leftist who has some clue about Israel’s recreation in 48 but not often.
67% of historical Palestine is now the state of Jordan. Gaza and the West Bank ( Judea and Samaria) are majority Arab and Israel is majority Jewish. Yes many Arabs were expelled or voluntarily left in 48 after the armies of the Mid East lost the first of many wars to Israel.
The Arabs were offfered a state in 48 along with another state which is now called Jordan. The Arabs got most of the land, Jerusalem is not mentioned in the Quran once, and they still responded with war.
You hear a lot of talk of occupation from Obama and his ilk. He knows full well Hamas has run Gaza since 2006. So when you hear the Left talk of occupation, this is code for expel the Jews from the only country they haven’t already been kicked out of. Expel if they’re lucky that is. Many would receive a crueler fate. Meanwhile Muslims in Europe are chanting that Jews “ go back to where they come from”. I’m a little confused as to where that is since Muslims also claim Jews have no religious or historical ties to Israel.
