Just start going by cities name with no nickname...for example not the Washington Redskins anymore...just Washington

But I'm sure some group with still think that's offensive and bitch and gripe about it

Haha. Am I supposed to believe everything he says? If you choose to, that’s your right. When our coach gets into a political movement, I have a problem with it. And yes, I disagree with how it’s all going. I fully believe it’s nothing but political. You disagree.
Where you might have a point on K, is he’s not the coach I grew up admiring. I’ve made that perfectly clear. Sports are, in my opinion, an outlet from the things going on in our country. They aren’t.
Yes, I’m getting sick of it.

This is the type of thing I don't understand. If you grew up admiring someone and he expresses an opinion on something he is more familiar with and has knowledge about than you, why wouldn't you listen and perhaps even learn from that person's word rather than shut him down and question his sincerity?

You see sports as an outlet, which it is, but I would argue the responsible thing to do when someone gains a platform is to use it to provide a voice for those who may not have one. If an athlete chooses to do that, more power to him.

Cal Berkeley an absolutely unbiased even handed entity.Give me a break

What is it with some of y'all and education? All somebody has to is slap a .edu on the end of a website and y'all dismiss it.

If I didn't know better, I'd think some of you guys dislike education because the gaining of it can help toward evening the playing field for the historically disenfranchised in this country.

Look, K has changed a lot over the last few years. Some of it Is adapting. But in my opinion, he’s gotten way too big. The BLM video was lipstick on a pig. Great for recruiting though.
I’m not the fan of him I once was. That’s my take.

How do you think he has changed?

And for the topic at hand, don't you think it is possible for Coach K to be supportive of the overarching theme of the Black Lives Matter movement because of his lifetime of exposure to Black males.

The reality is that it can be a very jarring, saddening and infuriating thing when a successful, wealthly, law-abiding professional Black male finds himself on the business end of law enforcement mistreatment.

Do you think it's possible that those conversations have been had with Coach K over the years and, if so, they would have a profound on the impact on him?

And if they could have an impact on him, could they have an impact on you?

Coach K is a smart man and knows the only choice he had was supporting BLM. Anything less than a 100% backing of that cause would have been the end to his coaching career.
I just wish he’d said nothing.
BLM and the media are only trying to divide our country. They are succeeding. I just disagree with a few on here on about everything. You have guys like Dude, that thinks he is the premier person at acquiring information. According to him, Jtre, and SDevada, the rest of us should just watch Looney Tunes, or Andy Griffith reruns.
Just about everything going on now is for the benefit to divide.

I am biased towards facts and towards supporting organizations that provide health services for millions and millions of people, particularly people who often cannot afford other alternatives.

Give me a link on this, because I’ve never seen ANY of this data. The only thing I could find even CLOSE to this was that abortions went from 3 percent of their total services to 3.7, which is roughly 25 percent, and still a TINY FRACTION.

When I got married, a little over decade before the infancy of the Black Lives Matter movement, a conversation among my six frat brothers and I turned to a discussion about interactions with police officers. To a man, every person in the room had at least one story of unwarranted police mistreatment. Most involved traffic stops, a couple involved drawn guns and the worst involved being tased and dragged out of a car window.

The interesting part becomes that every one involved has at least one degree, a professional job (one dentists and several directors among them) and there is a total of one criminal charge (a public intoxication when one of them was 19) among them.

If you had been in the room all those years ago, long before BLM protests and the president coined the phrase Fake News, would you have believed it and understood how those experiences differ from those of the typical white male in America?

Yeah, that’s BS.

Here is the 2019 annual report.

Now scroll down to the services data.

They provided roughly the same total number of services each year. And abortions are about three percent of what they do.

Did you honestly think that nonsense you said, which anyone with ANY shred of sense would know is an impossible year to year change, was correct? Or did you know you were lying?

Do all your Black friends think errthing was good before he showed up?

I look who is on that side of the argument... Mac, who apparently doesn’t like Coach K and thinks he is a liar, and Ipsy, who thinks everything was fine before Obama showed up, and Topps, with his insane “facts”.... and I feel better about things;)

BTW, you’ve kept your cool SHOCKINGLY well. Online sports forums are overwhelmingly white males, and the amount of nonsense some of them spew is horrifying.

That wouldn’t work because there are cities that have multiple teams in the same sport and even other sports, so nobody would ever know which team from whichever city anyone was talking about.

How do you draw a line between anything I have written on this board and somebody saying you should watch Looney Toons and Andy Griffith? What the hell does that even mean?

What’s funny is that he is the guy who was complaining that they’re taking away Elmer Fudds shotgun:)

I can’t speak for them but we’ve never discussed any of this bs and they were happy, successful, and doing just fine. And we’re not saints lol. We need to stop trying to cater and instead rebuild these high crime city’s is my opinion. Take a damn bulldozer down through there Giving handouts from people crying wolf all the damn time and people growing up in the same type of atmosphere/area over and over aint gonna change shit all while dividing us more!....just like every year since Obama. How about all these successful black people help rebuild these cities! That should be the focus! Whites Blues Redskins everybody!

Btw, I DO have to say... there are times that super lefties get so upset over some nonsense... where they eat their own... and I’m like “Come ON now!”:)

Dude, Dude, Dude. True, I’m not the fan of K I once was. But, I never said he was a liar. You’re just a highly educated liberal. One who thinks he’s superior to others. I say you’re full of shit. We are in the middle of planned chaos. Go sip a latte with your fellow educators, and cry about how I’m a racist. I am not.
I am all for helping the helpless, just not the clueless. There’s the problem. We have too many clueless people. I won’t support anyone who backs BLM, nor do I support changing all these names.
We’ve lost our testicles as a country. Life isn’t fair. I owe no one out there anything, nor does anyone owe me anything. :)

The little stupid emoji is of course for your benefit.

Why do you equate correcting wrongs with losing testicles?

I know you said earlier that you don't believe in formal education (well, you said the best education is received at home), but do you really think learning and trying to improve something is "losing testicles?"

I’ve never said anything about being against education. I’m all for doing the best you can. You have your head stick in the sand, and form opinions without even reading what’s said. Read this part slowly, I’M AGAINST THOSE THAT THINK THEIR LEVEL OF EDUCATION MAKES THEM SUPERIOR OVER OTHERS. We have at least one on here that feels that way, and he reminds us at least once a year he went to Duke, and has multiple degrees from there.
I know you disagree with me, but the least you could do is not screw up what I type.

I'm all in on the Cleveland Wild Things. Great name. Their mascot would be a Charlie Sheen look-a-like with black rimmed glasses.
I don’t much think much of any name changes lol. I’m at the point though where I’m like “JUST GIVE THEM WHAT THEY WANT SO THEY SHUTUT”...and the vast majority of “THEY” are not even Native...but it is what it is. I can lean and rock with it. BUTTT THE TOMAHAWK CHOP IS OFFENSIVE?? I don’t much get it. See, you give in a little, then they wanna take a lot, and want to turn everything and this country into a giant floating tampon. :)

Braves fan of 25+ years. The organization shocked everyone by cancelling the "Chop" hours before the last game played - deciding Game of the Division series. Team responded by falling behind 10 runs in the 1st inning. Good omen?

I will continue to wear my merchandise and continue doing the "Chop". I don't need stadium music to back me up.

If the franchise one day decides to change logos/uniforms then I will steadily lose interest as the current players cycle out. My allegiance and decades of memories is tied to the Braves logo, uniforms and "chop". I would follow the team to another city before I would cheer for a hypothetical Atlanta Baseball Trashers team.

All in all I am losing interest in team sports. This feeling naturally comes with age but now there are factors outside the playing field. And majority of them unpleasant. This is supposed to be an escape.

I’m not trying to get political or social justice warrior at all.. I’m genuinely curious how the “Braves” name is offensive? It seems very classy and they don’t have any cartoonish logos..

Wait, I have to ask... your allegiance is tied to the uniform, logo, and chop? Most people don't pick a sports team because of a uniform or a particular cheer... you pick and follow a sports team usually because of your experiences with the team and the players, and because certain players (or coaches) catch your interest, don't you? And none of that changes if the name changes, does it? Like... if Duke changed the sports team name to the Red Devils, would you then stop being a Duke fan because of that?

I believe that there is some disagreement amongst Native Americans about the use of the term "Brave." Some feel that it perpetuates the stereotype of almost feral warriors. But beyond that, the tomahawk chop is very offensive and that won't go away unless the team changes the name.

Perhaps you could be slightly less misogynistic in making your points. This is a Duke board and as a participant in higher education one would think you have a whole host of words you could use. On the other hand, you do seem to have trouble understanding how such a negative stereotyping gesture might be considered offensive.

My local public school logo/name is Warriors. Love it. Profile of a face with full headdress. Spear with feathers on it is also used. Love them both. Not sure of complete history of logo, but the battle of Minisink took place in my area.

That said, let's not forget that any time Native Americans acted in any way like a Brave or a Warrior, that behavior, accurate or just rumored, led to genocide. We might accurately or inaccurately, sincerely or mockingly praise or admire the warrior/brave concept now, but in that time, it resulted in the excuse to exterminate other humans and steal their land.
