CBS mock draft has Flag at one, Mal at Five , Foster at 14, Evans at 16 and Knup at 30.

Yahoo’s only has Flag 1, Evans at 16 , Mal at 19 and Knup at 24.

These mean nothing at the moment . They had Flip, Proctor, McCain, Mitchell all listed in the first round last year with Foster early second .

PREACH... The season can change that mock quickly. The NIL and COVID/Extra Year has put me in a place of Reality. How a player performs in real - time will determine draft status for 'most'. Politics and Potential will play a role, but for most Reality makes the draft happen. Terrance Shannon Jr. had a rough course this year, but once he was found 'not guilty' Minny knew he was a fit and a steal.

Exactly. If Knup goes first round and Evans then Duke straight dominated college basketball this up coming season . What’s even more funny at the moment is if two freshman get drafted before two upperclassmen then Duke’s season don’t go as planned.

I see this said a lot on Duke message boards (if this guy is a lottery pick/first round) we will have a special season) and I don't agree at all. All it means is that a guy is attractive to NBA scouts, and they love potential and upside. Kentucky had two top 10 picks and lost in the opening round. Colorado had 2 top 20 picks.

Yes but we’re talking about two guys who aren’t even projected to start and in order to attract NBA scouts you have to be seen on the floor . Especially if you’re going over two upperclassmen, one who has always been projected first round and another who is a possible first round .
Kentucky also had one go undrafted and a projected lottery to late first round pick never even attempt the draft . Kinda explains their season .

Could not agree more. Check out Duke's rosters in 2002 (JWill, Boozer, Dunleavy, Duhon, D, Jones), 2011 (Irving, Smith, Singler, Plumlee, Plumlee, Kelly), 2017 (Tatum, Allen, Kennard, Jefferson, Jackson, Giles). None of them made it past the Sweet Sixteen. Injuries, bad matchups, bad officiating, bad luck. No sure things in college basketball.

That 2002 team was unbelievable. #1 Ken Pom offense AND defense, only time that’s ever happened.

I’ll never rewatch the Sweet16 loss to Indiana (would hurt too much) but I know we had a big lead and got tight, there was a lot of bad officiating and Boozer got fouled at the end after rebounding JWills missed FT. That team should have won the title, just like the 2004 team.

Missed FTS by Williams and Indiana did a great job bringing Boozer away from the basket defensively with their star player #1 which I can’t recall his name ATM, and Boozer couldn’t guard him.

Drove right by him to the basket over and over. 😬

In some respects the 2002 loss to IU was the worst in Duke NCAAT history. Jeffries was their only future NBA player, while Duke had six. Duke had a 20-or-so point lead in the first half and Indiana simply out hustled and outworked Duke for the rest of the game. And it pains me to write that. IU out rebounded Duke 46-29. Jeff Newton came off the bench and had 10 rebounds in 25 minutes. Boozer had nine in 35 minutes. Dunleavy had six rebounds in 35 minutes and he was a 4 that season. Dunleavy had five turnovers, JWill four.

Yes, the refs missed Jeffries' foul at the end. But it should never have come to that.

As good as that 2002 team was I think they really missed Battier.
Coach K only went 7 deep. Casey, Matt and Nick did not play enough minutes. Yes, we only lost by 1, but if Boozer got in foul trouble Matt and Casey should've been ready. Nick was a stretch 4. He could've provided mismatches if you moved Jones/Mike D to the 3.

Great Points. Duke never should've gotten out - hustled or out - rebounded. This is was one time Coach K did not stretch the bench.

I’m going off my memory, or what I think happened anyway, so I may be mistaken. I think Indiana only made a couple 3’s that game. Also we had foul trouble, yet stayed in the man to man, which Jeffries sliced us up.

K lived and died back in the day with his style. Worked out most of the time, but that was one of those games where he might could have thrown a wrinkle at them.

Easy for me to suggest from my recliner.

IU was 2 for 10 from beyond the arc, Duke 9 for 24. Jeffries had 24 points and 15 rebounds, but only shot 9 for 21 from the field. NPOY Jason Williams was 6 for 19 from the field.

Other than the rebounding stats already cited the biggest indicator of a Duke defeat came from the foul line; Duke was 10 of 19, Indiana 20 of 31. Jones fouled out, while Dun, Dunleavy and Sanders ended with four fouls, Sanders in six minutes, Dane Fife and Tom Coverdale had four fouls for the Hoosiers but nobody else had more than two. Indiana's bench played 61 minutes, Duke's 31. Even had Williams made that final foul shot and sent the game into overtime, it's hard to see how Duke could have prevailed.

If you go into the last minute of a game tied you might as well flip a coin.

Hope not . He can do more damage with rest. I can see 30 it is a long season .
I really hope we do not get too crazy about this Team Select vs USA. Like you said, it's a long season. Also, Cooper is playing with legit NBA players. He has no pressure. Stay Healthy Cooper!

In a lot of his interviews he says,” I’m confident in my overall game and I’m here to play basketball!”
I just don’t want him averaging over 30 minutes a game with all the fire power Duke has . 30 minutes is more then enough to show off your complete game and NBA teams are already watering at the mouth for him.

I am still haunted by ex-Atlanta Braves catcher turned official Bruce Benedict swallowing his whistle. Benedict failed to call an OBVIOUS IU FOUL on Carlos Boozer on Williams miss,as "Booz" followed the shot. Carlos SHOULD have been at the line with TWO SHOTS. Duke could have prevailed by one.

I cant remember ever seeing Benedict officiating following his infamous blown no-call. Duke big Matt Christensen blasted Benedict after the game: "Call The Foul, Call The Foul!!!" as Benedict passed the Duke bench.

I was glad Matt unloaded. The NCAA later made Christensen issue a letter of apology for his outburst. IMO,the disgraceful Benedict deserved the verbal assault by Matt.

Missed call, no doubt. But if Duke takes care of business, it never comes down to one call.

Exactly. If you are close late, you can fall victim to bad call, crazy shot, etc.

Jim you are correct. I guess said call is one of those against Duke forever etched in my mind. Also the Wendell Carter taking charge(Roger Ayers called block), vs Kansas.

Again, the sound logic you applied per the IU game applies. Duke "takes care of business" and they win. Thanks Jim!!

I went back just now and watched the ending of the Duke vs Indiana game. Even before Boozer gets the rebound and no call, there was a foul call on Duhon on AJ Moye that even the announcers said looked like a clean steal. So, Duhon gets called for the foul and Moye hits both FT's to give them a 4 point lead.

If there is no foul call there, which admittedly, I thought it looked clean, then Duke could have gone down and scored to tie the game.

Then with Duke down 4, Ewing runs down the court and shoots a 3, but in the distance it looked like Coach K was trying to get a timeout. So, Ewing shoots and misses, Jay Williams gets the rebound, scores and is fouled.

What if Coach gets a timeout before Ewing shoots? Perhaps Jay doesn't hit a 3 and get fouled...which again is all before Boozer gets the rebound and is fouled.

The last minute of the game was crazy.

The kid is 17 (soon to be 18.) Playing 35 mpg twice a week should be a walk in the park for him.

I don’t know about his overall average (due to blowouts) but in ACC play down the stretch I’m willing to bet he’s at least playing 35 mpg.
He hasn’t played at the college level . Not to mention let’s not act as if every pro in those clips is going full bore on the court . If he is averaging 35 minutes a game then Dukes front court and bench will be truly struggling.

We will see. If he's as good as what it looks like he is, he's getting major minutes, as he should.
30 minutes a game is major for any frosh . This team is loaded . If Scheyer thinks seven were tampered with what do we think will happen this season the more players ride the pine . I read the interview and to me it sounded like he already knew players had checked out and looking elsewhere.
