Just a silly post game observations thread I am starting, with 10 bullet points. Sometimes serious, sometimes not. No Coors or hot dogs tonight. As the Joker says "and here we go."
1. Incarnate Word. Good Lord. Somewhere Jim Boeheim is saying "damn even I never played these guys."
2. Our offense seems to consist of 2 guys standing in each corner, unmoving. My junior high coach ran this play.
3. Mal must have heard my Casey Sanders comment, because he's taking over. Nice job Mal.
4. I like Sion but he might lead the nation in being burned on backdoor cuts.
5. Wow Sion must have read my #4 and gotten mad. 2 beautiful drives.
6. Nice to see Big Pat in there. Foster seems to love exceedingly difficult drives that sometimes goes in.
7. Evans heating up. He is key to us this year. He's Dynomite! (You have to be old to get that)
Ehhh I can't even come up with 10 points. It's Incarnate Word. We won, but looked kind of ho-hum. It's finals week coming off 2 big games. We don't always seem like a cohesive unit. 34% from 3 for the year needs to improve for us to make a deep run. Get Brown back ASAP. George Mason in a week. I commented before the ACC seems so boring this year. Where are the stars? I can hardly name any other ACC players other than UNC and our transfers. Other than Duke the ACC needs to up its recruiting, NIL, and portal transfer game. The SEC challenge painfully drove that point home; that football money is helping those schools. Now get off my lawn you crazy kids. Good night from the beautiful(but cold and dark at 4:30) Pacific Northwest.

Somewhere, Guru Gary is crying himself to sleep tonight, knowing Chris has bested him. A legend is born.
Nah, Gary has read thru Chris's post 12 times, shaking his head the whole time, because he can't find anything saying "the refs screwed us". He's repeating the words "rookie" and "amateur" over and over.

Nice work Chris, keep em coming.

Amazing my guy.. just amazing.. number 1 had me rolling

Yeah James' giving up back door layups was getting old. Hopefully he's fixed it.

As long as I remember Stephen A. Austin, I won't take these games for granted.

One of these days, all the so-called "great shooters" on Duke will make their shots and we'll be happy. For about 2 days.

I definitely never take any game for granted throughout the season. Each game is an opportunity for Duke to improve itself and each game leads to the team Duke becomes for the post season. The season is only 5 months long so I enjoy every single opportunity I have to watch the Blue Devils take the court.

Well you should have added to number one , but them keeping Duke to their lowest point total is something I could never do , lol.

Hope we come out more focused against George Mason.

We are 1/4th through the men's college basketball season. At this point, what do you like about this season’s Blue Devils? What would you like to witness the Blue Devils Improve on?

Likes: The high level of defense Duke is playing. Scheyer consistently playing 9 guys.

Needs Improvement: Need to stop with the slow starts in games. Need to straighten out the weak pick n roll and back door cut defense. The 3 point shooting needs to improve. Initiate the offense from inside-out to keep opponents honest on the defensive end. Less minutes for Kon, more minutes for Evans. Kon and Evans to improve as Defenders. Brown, Mal, Big Pat, and Gillis to be more aggressive on the offensive end (look to score and if it’s not there then pass it out). More minutes for Big Pat so he can be comfortable once February arrives and Duke has 4 Forwards in the Bigs Rotation and potentially Duke would be able to move Flagg to garner the majority of his minutes from the SF Position (his more natural role).

Go Duke!

I might do my 10 points tomorrow in Sam Kinnison's voice, complete with over the top screaming
Not sure how that will go down.
I am bringing over the Coors! Pick up some Nathan's dogs to fire up the grill. Hopefully they'll be ready by Foster's first drive attempt thru a crowded lane!!

No Coor's (it's a work night) no hot dogs. I just haven't gotten worked up for Duke games this year. I will try to make this entertaining.
1. Another slow start. Do this in the tournament against a good team and it's Cooper's last game.
2. I'm going to think of Kon as a 2-3 year guy. He's good, but not that good (yet). I have a feeling he's gone anyway so I hope our memory of him is not summer scrimmages and the ASU game.
3. I wish we could play a game without taking any 3's. Even if we lost. For the love of God chucking 3's is not an offense.
4. Evans is one of our few players who plays with passion. We need more of that.
5. Mal came back to earth a bit. He's so big that it may take him more time to come around.
6. Nice to see Brown back. As great as his D is, not much of an offensive threat.
7. It's a little shocking how Foster is playing. Maybe he is more injured than we thought.
8. We had one guy in double figures. One. Our D is good, but this ****show is not hanging a banner.
9. I feel like we need a wakeup call. GT beating us would not be the worst thing. Feasting on a weak ACC will not correct our weaknesses.
10. The sky is not falling. We are a good team who will be a decent seed. But the season is nearly 1/3 over. I do not see improvement. Any day now. I feel like our coaches are a little too player friendly; it probably helps with recruiting but sometimes they need a kick in the Kiester.
Sorry this was not funnier. I was preparing either a Sam Kinnison rant or some riffs on George Mason's name (Washington, Jefferson, Jetson, Clooney etc. I'll save some funny stuff for GT. A win is a win. We are healthy, and how long will that last? It's Tuesday, I'll do away with the Charlie Brown gloom and doom. Weekend is coming. Night all.

Only thing I can say at the moment is your not doom and gloom. This Duke team’s offense ain’t even hanging an ACC banner .

I think we can win the ACC, but it is a bad conference.
I can’t say I think we do . I think teams come gunning for Duke in conference play . It’s the only chance they have to bolster their record.

Maybe this is all a ploy by Jon before he unleashes his offense . Doubt it though.

Disagree.. the ACC is bad real bad outside of us and Clemson as bull city say if we don’t win both regular season and tourney this year is a big failure
I mean should Duke win both, Yes. Can they not win both, a course.
I see that the rotation is locked at partially nine although that will shrink more( Evans, Brown, Gillis ) mainly coming off the bench with toss up minutes for big Pat and maybe Harris ( doubt it though). I see Duke splitting with UNC and atleast three to four head scratching losses in conference .

Splitting with UNC this year would suck. We owe them.
Agreed on that one. I feel if we can contain RJ Davis, it would be hard for UNC to win. While I think a guy like Ian Jackson can put up a lot of points, Hubert doesn't play him enough. Like last night, RJ scored the most points by far, so containing him could/would make it tough for them.

To quote a famous detective allllrighty then. Just watched the 20 minute game recap.
1. This is Duke firing on all cylinders. We don't always do it, but hanging a banner is a possibility if we can play like this consistently.
2. I love Jim B. Yeah he sounds bored, but he is himself, doesn't do the dog and pony show like dickie V. He doesn't repeat himself ad nauseum like Bilas, and he doesn't have that incredibly annoying strep throat voice like PJ Carlisimo. Just sound observations.
3. Proctor looks much improved. Some really nice drives using his size to get to the hoop. Playing with confidence.
4. Not sure Cooper has lived up to the enormous hype yet, but you see it in spurts. That lightning quick dunk and some nice jumpers. Still needs to improve that mediocre shooting percentage, but today he looked great.
5. As Kon goes, we go. I think that's fair. We are elite when he is hitting 3's. Beatable when he is not. (By a top 20 team)
6. I thought all 3 transfers played well today. They are all smart, physical players.
7. Mal has looked great the last 2 games. If he plays like this we should be a 1 seed.
8. I like that elbow 2 by Gillis. A lost art.
9. Foster hitting a few should help his confidence.
10. Harris and Pat with 3 minutes each. You can't have everything. Evans had a decent game with 8 points.
Nothing really to complain about we played great today. Consistency is the next step. Well done squad and Jon made some nice adjustments.
10B: Not to take anything away from GT, but I miss the days of GT being formidable. I can remember the John Salley/Mark Price days, as well as the Kenny Anderson/Marbury days. Seems like a long time ago.

You guys are too kind.
The first few top 10 posts were Coor's free. If there were Coors involved I would be more gushing if we won or mean spirited if we lost.

Great summary. #5 is particularly apt. His passing and D was superb today as well. In the 2nd half, he essentially played the role of a point guard in our half court O.
