Official game day thread- Duke vs Auburn

📍 Cameron Indoor

last of the gauntlet games. Can we win and finish .500? Or do we lose and have a lot less impressive pre conference? Either way we will be better for it come March I believe

Bruce Pearl comes in to Cameron for the first time to my knowledge, as (to me) one of the best coaches in the nation. Auburn is 7-0 ranked #2 with impressive wins over Houston, Carolina, Iowa State and Memphis.

Duke coming off a fairly lackluster game against Seattle U and a heartbreaking loss against KU is looking for possibly our signature win for the season.

Auburn is a 2.5 point favorite

I can’t go against our boys, I think we get the big time Dub

Duke- 83
Auburn-79
Pretty good guess haha

He'll find a new home next year...
Evans was incredible. He needs to get better at his non-shooting plays going to the rim. He had some bad Rasheed Sulaimon essentially turnovers. He's really easily moved / knocked off his spot, so he'll have to work on being more than a shooter. But when he's got the shot going....he was incredible.

Good win.....w/o Evans it turns out very different and strange how he disappeared back to the bench given his first half contribution. He has to be confused. Lets hope we see more of him in the next run of games. He has earned more time. Shots fell for us at the right times today for a change! And its nice to beat Thug Ball, have UNC lose and KU on the same night!

No but some need to stop getting on Jon acting like this team has played together for more than three to four months .
I’ve always been supportive of Coach Scheyer. I just think when a kid is having a helluva game, you play him early in the second half. I thought Jon managed the game better the last four minutes. It looked like he coached up Proctor for late game moments. He came up big.

Some of yall can find reasons to complain regardless. Be HAPPY we just beat the number 2 team in the country (should be #1, they’re better then Kansas)

Ima say it and some won’t like it but the two best teams in the nation played in Durham tonight

I think if we got stagnant and needed offense, Evans would have been in. But since it was tight or we were ahead, he didn't need offense. He needed his best defensive team out there. But Evans for sure earned himself playing time. So happy for the kid

It was a great win, and Evans should have played more in the second half. Both things can be true. Hell of a win tonight, honestly a hugely important game for seeding given the hot mess the ACC appears to be. Evans being a weapon raises our ceiling.

Then apply for the coaching job see if you can do better because they didn’t let him touch the ball when he got in but hey apply to be Jon’s replacement
You mean because pearl adjusted right? After half time? Adjustments can work both ways

Very big win. A lot of guys contributed. Glad to see Evans take advantage of the opportunity. He should play more. Kon may not have scored much, but that kid is a gamer. We’re lucky to have him and Cooper.

The 3 by Proctor with under 5 to go when Cooper almost turned it over, was the dagger. That gave us the breathing room we needed.

I wouldn't classify Evans as best coming off the bench. I think the young man has some of the best upside on the team. Quick release, elevates and not shy. Eventually, you may have to start him if Kon is going to disappear against elite competition.
He won state championship with 4 average players playing in the highest class. He is used to running off screens, double teams to get his shot off

I had already posted Evan’s would not get open looks in the second at the halftime mark . Which by my account pretty much says I thought Pearl would adjust on Evans . I’m still agreeing with everyone that Kons minutes need to be reduced .

Haven't watched yet, but see that Pearl didn't waste any time whining about the refs. About as surprising as getting wet when one jumps in the shower.

Makes me wonder if that guy was a whiny b$&^h straight out of the womb or did he evolve that way over time. Nurture vs nature?

Just another used car salesman head coach that acts like a baby when every little thing doesn't go his way. I'd be embarrassed if I were a fan of any team he's coached.

Auburn did adjust to Evans, but we only got a limited sample of Evans in the 2nd half to see how that would have played out. If they’re focused on him, that should open things up for others, particularly down low. My guess (and hope) is that we’ll see more of him as we play lesser competition. Which is virtually every other team in the ACC.

Evans’ performance last night reminded me of Grayson’s coming out party against Wake late in 2015. After that game, he was a regular off the bench, and we all know how that turned out. Of course, Grayson was physically more developed, and was a PITA on D, which may have made his case stronger. But this poor outside-shooting team clearly needs a reliable threat.

OFC

12 minutes went by before Maluach picked up a recordable stat.

I said last week that he honestly doesn’t bring much time the table. We are so much better with Brown on the floor.

Mal has a future in this game but he should get only 12-15 minutes, which it spirals JS realizes now.
