He is probably the last guy since Grayson that has any sort of shot of having his Jersey retired if we were to win a NC and he were to come back one more year and try to graduate. I don't think they had defensive player of the year until after Battier graduated. He surely would have won it if it existed. I do remember that he shared the 2001 ACC POY with Joe Forte, which was a poor decision by the voters.
