I just want to say that this thread, what I have read of it, is an embarrassment no matter which side you stand on. Poor representations on both sides. Be better you bunch of hacks.

Unfortunately the time for being polite is coming to an end. See, there’s a large group of men and women who just want to live their lives, work hard, raise families, and pay their (high) taxes. They want to treat with and be treated with respect, regardless of what someone stands for or looks like. That’s the beauty of America. Sadly that beauty is slipping away at the hands of people who “hate” being here, yet don’t leave. These same people are waking up the aforementioned group of many who don’t play politics, but are being pulled in because they’re tired of the virtue signaling and shaming of the Leftists (not Liberals) who want America overthrown and replaced with true Communism. 6 months ago I wouldn’t have said this, but now I do as I, along with many others, are waking up.

Lastly, and sadly, we have 2 real choices in November and the lesser of 2 evils, subjectively will need to be chosen.

You choose who you engage with. And you have the choice of taking the higher road. I can't say that I disagree with your overall point. But you aren't getting any kind of point across when you lower yourself to the standards of the people you are criticizing. The two choices you have in November have nothing to do with how polite you are. And that is not just directed at you.

I agree with you here - there’s a core of 6-7 Leftists here who have wrecked the board by bringing politics into almost anything they can. We can hope the mods creating this lounge separately brings back the good posters who have since bolted due to the above political antics.

While this is a “lounge thread” (out of necessity), it’s still a Duke home board. Remember where you are if you’re a guest.

I can’t believe I’m saying these next Few words but - please keep it to political discussions. If you can’t articulate your stance without launching into personal vitriol against someone with different views, then you are the problem.

I’m going to share something that only one person in DI knows- i am disabled. I’ve lived my entire life with my disability and looking different than everyone else. I’ve learned a long time ago that you need to have thick skin. That most people are actually good people and have good intentions. Even if they disagree with certain things. Finally, the reason I shared that very personal tidbit is this piece of advice i got a long time ago-

Try hard not to offend others, try even harder not to be offended.

Whats funny to me is all the sensitivity from a group here over offensive shit, yet that same groups the only people here name calling and getting personal because people disagree with their bs lol

There’s definitely a double standard in play on these boards, I mean look back at Coach K’s video, it was deleted almost as soon as it was posted because it goes against the narrative that the older demographic on this site prefers.

Y’all can’t even listen to the head coach speak on an important matter without getting your feathers ruffled. THR had a more thoughtful conversation on the subject and that should be embarrassing.

Yet the “other” people are the sensitive ones... okay. Lol

Okay, let's avoid letting a few bad eggs take over and ruin things... I know a lot of us have disagreed in the past, and even gotten riled up, but generally the folks in these discussions have been able to step back and take a breath... Mac and I have fought like cats and dogs, for example, but in the end we've always shrugged and agreed that we'd be fine getting a drink... so, in an attempt to get back to some form of actual discussion, let's try that.

So... what on earth is going on in Portland?

On the one hand, what is the objective of all of these people protesting? Like, what is the end goal? And how do they know that they've reached it? Maybe I haven't kept up enough, but it just seems unending. What's the point, at this point? Because to me it seems like there isn't really a possible ending.

On the other hand, why does it seem that our federal law enforcement is determined to make it as bad as possible? Every day you see tons of peaceful protestors getting shot in the face with tear gas canisters and beat over the head with batons... between that Navy vet getting smashed, and then that Army medic getting tear gassed... and the pictures going around of that Wall of Moms woman getting dragged away, and that girl getting a shotgun pointed at her throat... wtf is going on there? And why are conservative not going NUTS at the idea of the federal government getting involved in state issues, even when the states themselves oppose it? It seems to be the DIRECT opposite of what conservatives have supported for decades... it seems almost like what conservatives have been saying we need guns for, for jackbooted government thugs... but they don't seem to care anymore?

That is a little bit of revisionist history. That video was posted and a thread was started that was up for some time. The problem was it elicited a lot of discussion that then devolved into name calling so the mods deleted the thread. It was AFTER that that someone again posted the video. this time the mods deleted immediately given the prior history.

The federal police in Portland have said every single night that if the crowd doesn't engage, they won't engage. And every single night the crowd throws molotov cocktails at the federal courthouse, start fires, shine lasers in the officers eys and throw fireworks at the officers. The mayor was literally standing in front of a crowd tearing down a barrier with fires burning in the background and fireworks going off saying that he didn't see any reason for the federal police to respond. You can't make this shit up. To call these peaceful protesters is a flat out lie.

I have say, I don’t see a particularly political lean to the mods on this forum... I’m sure conservatives think they are too lenient to liberals... so they are probably doing it right:)
