Is this what most native Americans want or is this strictly the pc police telling the world what to do

I heard a Native American activist on ESPN saying that the R word is kind of like another extremely offensive word. It should be changed; and I'm not one of these tear down Mount Rushmore people at all.

Other surveys in that article show by and large Native Americans were NOT "offended." I will ALWAYS refer to them as the Redskins. I mean geez, Redskins-Cowboys rivalry in the past has been a storied rivalry....I cant imagine saying Presidents vs Cowboys for instance. Sonny Jurgensen (ex Duke player) starred and set passing records for the REDSKINS.Vince Lombardi (one season), George Allen and Joe Gibbs coached the Redskins....,The name is an institution... OFC

I dont see constant protests in the streets objecting to the name. Your pic was 2014. So get back on google and find a more recent one.

I grew up and still live when most football fans here were Redskin fans. It was way before the Panthers came in the league. I was very young and really didn't know Redskins referred to Native Americans but I just didn't like the sound of the name. Color television wasn't in then but I had football cards in color and I didn't like the team colors but the team name, colors and a QB with a cool sounding name I did like. The Baltimore Colts with the Duke Blue and White and Johnny Unitas got me. OFC

Are they changing it though? All I heard is they are "seriously looking into it." But they may have to at this point.

I'm Native American and I'm not remotely offended by "Redskins".

I assume when schools, teams, etc., choose their nicknames/mascots, that they want them to reflect positive attributes that are admirable/meritorious. So I've always thought that it's an honor, quite honestly, for schools and teams to choose "Indians", "Braves", "Warriors", "Seminoles". I think those names reflect bravery, fighting spirit, pride, tenacity, resilience... a host of qualities I find uplifting, frankly. I also think it's a nice way to help Native Americans, and their associated history, stay in the public consciousness.

If other Native Americans, and others in general, feel differently, I of course respect that.

I second this. I’m eastern Cherokee and my mother’s ancestors walked the trail of tears. I’ve never been offended by the name nor have I thought of it that way.

I just asked because I used to work with a guy who said he was was Native American but was only like 1/12. He might not have the same experience as you or others lol. I apologize if I was being insensitive.

Man your good. It doesn’t offend me at all. I’m proud of my heritage.

IMO , changing the name of the redskins is weird . I mean what else would you call them ? They’ve been named that for as long as I’ve been born. Imagine all the memorabilia that will be pulled from the shelf who covers that loss.

It is weird. Given the climate it is probably going to happen. But I haven't heard Snyder commit.

I'm mutt. That may be the answer. The Washington Mutts. Should not offend anyone. :) OFC

Warriors would be okay if a little generic. No matter what you name them it's gonna sound like an arena team name.

Are you seriously complaining about removing a name that is incredibly offensive to a group of people who are not just Americans but have roots here that go back to before the Dutch and English set foot here?
Redskins has been a part of the team name since 1933 when they were known as the Boston Redskins, so the team has had the word Redskins in its name for 87 years but it’s only been in about the last 10 years or so that people started having a problem with the name. With the Redakins being forced to change their name then how long before teams like the Atlanta Braves and the Chicago Blackhawks or any other professional sports team will be forced to change their team name?

Nearly every team nickname could be interpreted as being offensive to someone. We should just abolish all sports, lock ourselves in our residences and cease to communicate with outsiders. That would solve everything.

Washington Marxists would make a select group here very, very happy.

My grandmother was 100% Native, Choctaw and Blackfoot mix. We still have family that is very in tune with the Native world. I asked their opinion and most (who actually care what football is lol) say it’s embarrasing seeing what this country is doing because of PC policing.

Oh well. White Leftists (Leftists, not Liberals) are more offended, for other groups, than those groups are themselves. Think about that. Bill nailed it:

It wont stop there. The PC crowd literally look for anything to offend them...

The way you guys are carrying on over the removal of an insulting slur from a team name Is remarkable. It’s not like anyone asked you to wear a mask at the stadium.

I have no idea why you think the age of the nickname supports your argument. We have been treating native Americans poorly and using this pejorative phrase since Washington was president. You are also wrong a out this protest only being 10 years old. It has gone and for as long as the team had its name. And quite frankly any team that has a racial slur in it should be changed. High schools and colleges did it and the world did not fall apart.

And the racists look for everyone rational for why they are not racists
Says the (I’m betting) white guy. Am I mistaken?

Bill Maher describes you beautifully in the first 36 seconds of the video above. Well done, sir!

Nahhh I just think most people are just sooo tired of having to tip toe around EVERYTHING and STILL being perceived racist ANYWAY because of some little sensitive bs all the time...
But virtue signaling makes them feel so go!!

I gotta tell my Korean wife I’m racist. That and my black (well, 3/4’s) best friend. Lol!

3/4’s of my friends ARE black. I wanna say my best friend IS black. Successful people with no complaints...EVER. Butttt I guess I’m just “rationalizing”...idk if that’s the right word or not lol
