There have been tons of sports nicknames over the years so I thought it would be fun to see how many we can come up with. Some were known by their nicknames like Yogi Berra. I like some of the old guys because they were so original and you tend to wonder how the came up with the nickname. Post as many as wish on as many post as you wish. I'll start with these.

Satchel Page
Vinegar Bend Mizzel
Dick "Night Train"Lane
Earl "The Pearl" Monroe

"Sir Charles Barkley aka The Round Mound of Rebound"
- Easily one of my favorite all time athletes across all sports, mainly because I find him so hilarious. He would definitely be sitting across the table from me at a "You Can Have Dinner with 5 People" meal.

The GOAT, Earl Manigault. I need to learn more about his story.

The Iron Horse Lou Gehrig. OFC

Mattingly was my favorite Yankee of all time. O'Neill is next. Then Gehrig.

I know Steinbrenner used to call O'Neill a Warrior but it never stuck like Big Pauly.

As a fan of epic stories I always loved the name Aeneas Williams. Not a nickname but was a great name for a great player.

Penny Hardaway! I loved watching him play when I was growing up, and the Lil Penny commercials with Chris Rock were always hilarious. I always look at Penny and Grant Hill in the same light. It's a shame what injuries did to both of their careers.

The Captain. Derek Jeter
Cool Papa Bell
The Splendid Splinter Ted Williams
Say Hey Willie Mays.
Pumpsie Green
Willie "Stretch" McCovey. OFC
