Potential portal players

Is anyone else concerned that we will lose 7 of our top 8 guys if Keels leaves? Has that ever happened before at Duke? I think we'll be okay but other than Roach it's an entire new team. Even in 99 after the mass exodus we still had James, Carawell, Battier and Domzolski. I do like that we are aggressively pursuing Green.

Concerned? I'm always concerned before a new season, no matter who is playing. You never know how the talent/experience will mesh. I have faith in Jon though.

But the difference with making a team up of transfers compared to OAD is that all transfers have played at least a year in college. Transfers already know what to expect of the college grind . Plus they don’t plan on being on campus for only six months .

I'm watching the NBA Combine. Kenny Lofton is a 'pure player'. Many participating is combine our in the transfer portal. Outside of Green, who else is Duke looking at? At the wing or another position?

I love Lofton but that kid is going to want to start. he's really good, and has been impressive at the combine. But 6-5 280 he needs to slim down.

A player should get better with more playing time. The issue is as to whether the team would have been better with Joey getting more minutes. K did not think so. OFC
K, the goat, smarter than me, was short sighted . I can’t wait to see how Jon manages the team and game.

So, in your opinion, the team would have been better had K been far-sighted enough to have taken playing time away from other players and given it to Baker? What, if anything, do you believe that Baker did to justify investing more time in him? How much more time should he have been given? Which players' times should have been reduced? Just asking. OFC

Saw a crystal ball for Greene move from Duke to ISU. Does this mean Keels coming back?
Could be. Think I read Iowa State leads now. Not surprised really. Folks back home in Green's camp are probably pressuring him while Keels drama plays out. We could get neither I suppose....

It’s all going to depend on what Keels wants to do . If he feels he needs another year he’ll return or pick f he’s being told he can improve conditioning in the league

^Yea. I guess that we will hear something very soon now, one way or the other. The change in the Green pick might mean something. IMO, he was advised during this process that he needed to work on his body and his 3 point shot. I certainly understand that it is a tough decision and a bit of a gamble either way. If he fails to improve in college, he could slip further. If he does improve, he could improve his draft position for next year.

I think Jon has been more than fair with Trevor in this situation. I feel like coach has a good grasp on it one way or another. Shey I am just a tired, crotchety old man so I am just getting impatient. We've waited this long though....

I agree. I think at this point he has enough info to make up his mind . Between Duke connections, the camps and individual work outs . Now it’s all up to him

So it’s Keels or no one know? I would rather have Keels back first since he is familiar with the program and Coach Scheyer. But if he stays in the draft I would hope we get Green. Both are needed players and should have similar impact on next years team.

i would doubt that if Keels doesnt come back and AJ goes elsewhere, that no one is gonna be looked at....we'll see soon enough

Player same here, but think that ship has sailed...OFC
I would assume if the ship has sailed with Green, he would not be waiting to declare where he's going. If he's going to play for his father, then why wait this long. I still think he's waiting on the Keels decision.

I'm not saying if Keels leaves that Green ultimately comes here, I'm just saying, if the Green ship has sailed, then he would be announcing already.

Lol how K orchestrated minutes didn’t make sense in the long run. All I’m saying is had we (possibly) took a couple more losses in the regular season guys would have been better prepared when/if called upon in the tournament to give our starters a breather. while contributing. One head scratcher was Bates getting thrown into action . He contributed early, then sat on the bench , then a month later gets thrown in there in the tournament. Lol

You could possibly be right, but I'm not qualified to second guess the GOAT. Cannot think of anyone on the bench who deserved more starting time or would have benefitted enough to justify putting them in. Bates played for one reason, to rest our bigs and save fouls. OFC

Well on a positive note...Mayer isn't headed to the cheats. Thank goodness because he's really good.
They didn't want him anyway...lol...but for real, its better for Puff and Styles, they will effectively split that spot imo w/ the hot hand or better matchup getting more minutes.. good for them from a development standpoint...imo

May actually help us. I think at this point Filipowski and Mark Mitchell become match up problems for The Cheats.

Mitchell intrigues me. From what I’ve seen his shot needs work but his ability to defend and score from 12 foot in will help with Dukes shooters . It’s going to be interesting.

Looks like Courtney Ramey might be our top target now. Solid defender, offensive game is decent, but nothing spectacular. Having him at the 2 would be much more preferable than starting Schutt - or playing Mitchell at the 3, IMO.

Did we ever reach out to Malachi Smith? Evidently he's down to Gonzaga and Texas Tech. Thought he offers more versatility than AJ Green... I know we previously reached out to Isiaih Mosley. Would love to snag him. I think he may have been the only player in the country who hit the 50-40-90 shooting splits last season .

Sasser came back to Houston so we should be able to get Ramey. Gonzaga has 3 guards/wings back so if they add Smith that blows a hole in the transfers won't compete for time theory.

And as we all know, message board guy knows more than the coach that won 12 hundred games

Feel like Gonzaga would be so much better off playing small ball. Playing Timme significant minutes alongside Anton Watson or Efton Reid is not ideal for spacing. None of those guys are going to stretch the defense. Granted, Timme is a good facilitator, and they often utilize him in high-low action.

If I'm Few, this is is in the lineup I'd go with if Smith commits:

Nolan Hickman
Rasir Boltman
Malachi Smith
Julian Strawther
Drew Timme

I think Strawther could easily play a good junk of the minutes at the 4. Maybe 20 minutes at the 4 for Strawther (and 10 minutes at the 3) - if Timme plays 30 a night, that would leave 30 combined minutes for Reid/Watson. So, Hunter Sallis, Anton Watson, and Efton Reid would be the key guys off the bench.

That’s not a brag. Nor was it punctuated correctly
You are right. Besides, how does Ifaze claim to know what WE know? His posts sure do not show it. I like his elementary school stab at poetry, however. Just to make it clear, I have no clue as to what he thinks he knows, if anything. Maybe we are all in the dark. OFC
