Finally! It is Duke Basketball Season again. Looking forward to a good year for Duke, and hopefully a good health year personally.

Grinder of a game.

18 points from the bench!!!!

Alex looks much improved on D - really active and it showed on the Stat line

Rough game to get rebounds!

What is happening to Baker?

Anyway, Who gets the Gameball...

Had to go Tre here. He did it all, really could’ve went with any of the options though.

I was going to go Alex, but those last points to seal the game by Tre pushed him over the edge for me. I think Cassius is going to be one of the most enjoyable players to watch this year. On one game, my opinion is he has the most potential of the group.

Yep, Tre was big in winning time. Cassius could absolutely be our best overall player at the end of the year.

This is a tough one, a lot of guys were super needed on this one.

Ultimately, Tre really set the tone for us on defense so I say him

There's no question who leads this team. Tre is it. He runs the team like a true floor general. Personally, I'd like to see him hit a few more 3's but we don't have to have him hit those. As long as he keeps the TO's down, distributes the ball where we need it and continues to play his signature lock down D, I'm gold. Cassius....mid season....oh my.

I went with Tre, he was outstanding in the second half. His bounce pass to Cash for the flush was filthy.
I do think we will need him to hit shots though, he can’t keep teams honest with no threat to knock down some of those shots.

I came away extremely impressed with Cash, he was.....Money, get it? His poise, energy and confidence shone through. He rose to the occasion on the big stage.

Jack gave us great minutes and energy. He is so tough and just the guy we needed last night to do the dirty work.

Not a good poll lol. Jack White should have been on it and he was the player of the game IMO. Tre, despite leading the team in scoring, shot pretty bad. Jack was there in all the right spots all night getting rebounds, steals, some good shots, etc.

Jack was solid in his 19 minutes, but you must have been watching a different game than me. :D - Good shots? He made 1 - and shot a lower percentage than Tre (33% vs. 36%). He had a couple of nice steals and was tenacious and aggressive on D. But it was just that - nice, IMO.

Nope, I watched the same game as you. Tre was 5-14. I suspect had Jack taken 14 shots, he would have hit more than 5. I think had Tre passed the ball during those missed shots, we would have one a little easier. My point is the poll didn't even mention Jack. You don't need to score a lot of points to be a key to victory.

Cassius.

Tre won us the game as a leader should do, but he was bad for the first 30 min of the game.
Jack was great too.

Hard to say. Nice to see the Freshman look so good, though. Carey looked so much better than the exhibition games. Hurt has a really nice touch. Stanley looked like the kind of guy who would rather have a limb amputated than lose a game. And while Wendell Moore's stats don't look very good, from the eye test I think he showed he could be a really big contributor this year. Lots of flashes of greatness and some tenacious D.
Was a little disappointed in some shot selection by the upperclassmen. Tre shouldn't be shooting contested threes. He'll have plenty of opportunities shooting open threes to show his outside shot has improved. AOC took some contested threes, then passed up open threes later. His confidence seems to wax and wane quickly throughout the game. Goldwire took an ill-advised 3 - it was like he saw that K had sent his replacement to the scorer's table and decided to chuck one up before he got benched.
But for the first game of the season...? Very happy. Very happy indeed.

Tre.. It was awesome to see an veteran (only a sophomore I know) leading the way and stepping up to take the biggest jumper with a little over a minute to put us up 3.

Cassius. His energy on both ends was amazing. He will learn to slow down a little but keep that same energy as the season goes and it's going to be fun to watch!

I don’t know that I want him to slow down. The game is going to come to him (it already does at times) at speed and his speed advantage will be put to full use.

Gave it to Cassius. His two dunks and three pointer, I think was the turning point for Duke. Cassius is awesome!

I also will go with Tre, the little floor general but he must be a threat more consistently from behind the arc like someone said earlier as we'll have games when he will be forced to take the last shots of the game because the opponents defense will key of the shooters.

I just want to put a plug in for Carey. He had to battle 2 huge and older guys with really little help other than Jack and he more than held his own. I'm very impressed with the young man.
Very impressed with Carey!

This was the definition of a team win, but since we could only pick one player, I went with Tre. His defense and timely buckets towards the end of the game gets him the nod.

I voted for Tre. He still has that nice midrange jumper that he can make consistently and so far through the first game he’s seems to have gotten better at driving to the basket under control because last season he seemed to be too out of control when driving to the basket at times. He also seems to have improved some from the free throw line.
