Nothing wrong to be in the 10-15 range without any 5 stars. None of those guys are POY candidates or All Americans but solid guys who will be around for a while and will contribute.

So if I was playing PG, then I passed the ball, but the other player either missed the shot or choose not to shot it do I get credit for a blown assist ?

If that's the case then every player should have 50 plus blown assist a game.

I thought they kept Blown Assists and Blown Transition baskets as a team stat because when I see Seventh Woods heave the ball into the stands is it because the guy he was passing to moved a different way, could not jump high enough (aka Meeks) etc....

I know that is just a stupid made up stat of Gary's. We have all seen some great passes that did not turn into points for various reasons.

What really blows my mind is anytime Gary puts out information he is always wrong. Then some player will blow up on another team and he will say "I remember sitting at my computer thinking this guy is going to be really good in college. Wish Roy would of got him. yep I was right and knew it along."

Then most of THR believes him.

His usual theory is that handlers interfered with him going to UNC and after Roy found out he pulled the offer

Some us excuses in a thread at Inside Carolina asking why Denni Smith Jr. didn't join the Holes.

bosox2:
"Same reason these other North Carolinians, Ingram, Giles, Adebayo, declined North Carolina offers; they are looking for the best return on their investment in their human capital, i.e. their basketball skills. For example, if Ingram had chosen UNC, he would not have received the same opportunity he received at DOOK to showcase his skills and get such a high lottery pick. Had they chosen UNC, Smith and Adebayo would not be starting, and Giles would not be replacing Hicks if he decides to play this year."
Smith and Giles would not be starting there....LOL.

blueheaven71:
"1. Berry
2. Adidas
3. Having to share minutes in a 12 man rotation." 12 man rotation, huh?

hncjc55 referring to Brandon Ingram (would NOT have started for them last year either. Lol.
"Would he have started for us last year? I doubt it and my guess is he wanted to start more than he wanted a National Championship. I doubt he would have been drafted as highly if he had come to UNC because he would not have been showcased as much."

Justin Jackson has lived up to his ranking?!!! WTF....

Without seeing the context of that thread, it's hard for me to comment. Truthfully, I think Ingram would have had a lot less playing time at UNC. Whether or not he starts is meaningless. Look at it this way....Roy plays 10 guys often times just to play 10 guys. It's not because he's necessarily is that deep.

I'll say this, Roy is kind of the extreme on one end of the paradigm by playing too many guys, and K, in some respects, is the opposite, in that I think he could play more guys, more minutes.

And yes, I think UNC is missing on guys for some of the reasons listed in those responses. When that poster says 12-man rotation I kind of see it as him taking a jab at Roy, not saying UNC is uber-talented. It's like right now....Luke Maye is playing more than he should be, IMO. I'm not the only one who thinks that, most of their own fans know it too.

Lastly, Roy is missing on a lot of these guys, again IMO, because he refuses to adjust his system. No matter his personnel, his style will NOT change. He's going to win a lot of games doing that, but he's also going to miss on guys he would normally be in the running for....I'm fine with that.

I think that's an accurate way to put it. Also, Roy gives a lot of weight to upperclassmen. While he has started freshmen before, if there is an upperclassmen at that position they will most likely start over a freshman. Obviously, if you only plan on being in school for one year you will most likely want to start.

Totally fair to judge Pinson right now. Injuries or whatever, he has done nothing to warrant his ranking....yet. He certainly could become a very good player, but right now he is very much under performing his ranking.

Berry is really good.

Jackson is what he is. A solid college player who can go off once in a while.

Well he is correct. if Ingram would of went to UNC he would still be on their roster. Gary would be telling everyone that he knew Ingram wasn't a OAD and the Intel he got was that he never wanted to be.

Fun fact. I actually know some of his family and people around him. He would of went to UK instead of Duke if Winslow would of returned.

I'm confused about something.

If K is so selfish (per THR), why does he give lots of PT to highly-talented freshman and allow them to be OAD?

Wouldn't it be more selfish to give lesser-talented upperclassmen undeserved PT so talented frosh will be forced to return for additional years before trying to go pro (a la HOF Coach Roy Williams)?

Discuss.

I don't think that qualifies as being selfish. I think he believes that the upperclassmen have earned the PT and that's why he gives it to them. So, he's not giving them anything that they don't deserve in his opinion. He has started freshmen before if there is a huge void at that position, but if there isn't a lot of difference he will go with the upperclassmen. As far as K being called selfish, I don't agree with that narrative. He does what he thinks is best for his players and what has worked for him in the past. It's just a different style. I don't believe it has anything to do with him being selfish.

uncfan in ky had this to say about Saturday's game...

"This is the game that if we had Theo we'd win by 20+. Shut down Monk from 3 & UK is awful."

I guess it's possible, but something tells me someone is a bit overzealous in their love for Theo Pinson.
Dont be so hard on Theo after all he wanted to come to Duke and we wanted Justice more

He wasnt in the game which was mind boggling enough seeing as he was probably our best defender, but then we didnt guard the inbounder which was even worse. At the very least THeo wouldve been much more capable of guarding Jenkins that far from the hoop..Most on THR seem to blame Hicks for this, but In my opinion it falls squarely on Roy and his choice not to guard the inbounder.

As far As Theo is concerned, I thought he had the most potential of anyone in that class(Berry, Pinson, Jackson) and I dont think weve seen what the kid can really do at all because of injuries. Im hopeful that player will appear this season sometime.

From some poster named Nookam-
"NewCoach K really gets a huge advantage recruiting OAD players due to Team USA basketball. The disheartening thing is once he retired as head coach they "created" a position for him.Everyone knows this was to give him unlimited time and access to the elite HS players. I guess the NCAA was fine with this position being created. It puts everyone behind the 8 ball in recruiting.Thats why you see him pulling these guys in 2-3 at a time. How the NCAA sees this as fair to everyone else is a big question they would BS an answer. Coach K is great we all know, but fair is fair and he should recruit like any other. I'm sure Roy would like unlimited communication and one on one and group meetings as well as introducing them to LeBron and Durant."

Now that is some LOL worthy stuff right there.

I didn't know the NCAA had jurisdiction over Team USA. Also, I can't believe that position was created because his work merited it, haha.

Sometimes top recruits don't live up to their potential. I'm not ready to write off Theo as a bust just yet, but both programs have signed top 30 players that didn't live up to expectations. It happens. Berry has overachieved and Jackson, despite scoring 34 last night, has underachieved. But if he plays like that the rest of the season, with that kind of mentality he can really become the go to guy.

I said this before, Jackson is a good player who can go off once in a while. I don't think he is as good as he was the other night, every game, but the kid can play and is a threat. He will have a spot in the NBA too. I think he has done well in regards to his ranking, he is just in a system that does not really promote much individually. If he played at a place where much lesser talents were not cutting in to opportunity for him, I think he would already be playing for pay checks. JMO.

Is a blown time out a time out not taken or a time out where the play called doesn't work. Random thought. OFC
"Blown Time-Out" one of two things-

1/Roy fails to take one in crunch time....

2/Roy calls a set last second play for Big Luke to throw ball cross court towards the Carolina bench....

Sounds like the refs really did UNC in the other night. Gary tells it like he says it.

Their Bigs were hanging on our guys like cheap suits on rebounds and got called for it exactly twice, and yet our Bigs got in foul trouble. Since Tony has been here I've never seen him say a word to a ref until tonight. Kid got absolutely hammered and the zebra gives uk the ball and TB let him know about it. And JB's 3rd foul call was just terrible and changed the game. Roy HAD to go Zone as much as he did because we couldn't help due to foul trouble, nor could we afford to scramble on D...

Yeah, the no defense claim is just not really fair. Oh yes, we had our bad moments BUT the main problem was the unwarranted calls that placed our Bigs in foul trouble. JB played Fox more than well but that 3rd foul called on perfect defense in which Fox initiated any little contact there was a bush-league call and changed the game. And with Meeks and Hicks spending so much time in foul trouble that took away the ability to help, which is the key to our team defense.
