Duke baseball -- 2023 season

Umps have completely lost control of this game. And why in the world does Coastal keep doing things to p!ss off Duke unnecessarily...
Explain it to me because I must be missing it

After both home runs, coastal's players have chirped towards Duke. The second one, the guy jumped around at home plate like 5 times before circling the bases. Coastal was already warned about sportsmanship so Bender should have been tossed. and sportsmanship was a point of emphasis.this year. The umps knew they blew it because that is the only thing that makes sense why Pollard was not tossed. When a coach cleary should be tossed but isn't, the umps knew they blew it.
Like not emphatically dunking with seconds left up 20 in basketball.
I promise this crap will happen tomorrow. There will be a lot of chirpimg between duke and coastal players tomorrow (and when they play next year) and the umps painted themselves in a corner that there is not a damn thing they can do.
At least Duke will be the home team tomorrow.
Ahhh ok I see, at the end of the day our mistakes lost that one. Can’t load the bases in the first inning and then give them an opportunity to hit again then give them a hr. Here’s to hoping the guys come out fired up tomorrow , who do we have to pitch tomorrow
Absolutely correct. The guy who hit the two run blast should habe been out on a foul ball where we had had miscommunication and did not catch. You absolutely cannot screw up the little things...
Thanks for explaining baseball stuff I don’t understand by the way. I hate baseball but like watching Duke and cheering for the pollard family once, that family is super cool. Got me in to the Texas tech super regional and even sent me a jersey once
Esp with how they have changed the rules. Clemson CF was tossed while running off the field and was running away from other teams players in Tennessee game.
Alex Gow is tonight's starter -- he's been Duke's most-consistent starter since Santucci's injury but just threw 64 pitches on Friday. My guess would be he's got something like a 40-50-pitch max tonight and he could only go an inning or two.

Duke radio guy hypothesized the blow back from the Clemson CF being run is why the umps are hesistant to toss someone.

Big strikeout to strand the tying run for coastal at second. If you got two strikes, if it is close enough that the ump can at least think about calling strike three, you have to swing.
Three run home run b3! Nice set up to the inning when with one out, Moody hit a shot to short that got through. Coastal outfielder was lackadaisical and straight double for Moody. That is what I am talking about. If that is a single, that inning could have been entirely different. Anywhere you can steal a run...
We need a shutdown t5. Yea, we just scored 2, but bases juiced no outs and not scoring anymore hurts.
It does coming up against a weak pitcher and striking out not good. Our two and three hitters not getting it done
Got the shutdown inning. Mo could have shifted to Coastal and we shut down that notion.

Anyone who follows baseball knows you do not tempt the baseball gods. Coastal did just that yesterday. Why is Metz still in the game? Duke has been very aggressive on the basepath and has been keeping pressure of Coastal. Wonder if Pollard had a few words about that with Duke after the past two games, especially Saturday...
Pollard is underrated as a coach. I know he’s had a down year or 2, but what he’s done at Duke is incredible IMO. I’ve had some scout buddies of mine say he’s hard to deal with but my experiences with him all indicate he’s first class. All coaches make questionable decisions at times, but it appears he’s pushed all the right buttons to get to the Supers

Duly noted king. That's easy to get lost with the "hit parade," but our pitching was outstanding!! Gow set the tone early. I am just glad we're off until this weekend. Still playing in June!! Goal for any college team!!! Go Duke! OFC
Duke draws an early super regional that starts Friday at UVA.
Friday and Saturday games are 12 p.m. on ESPN2; Sunday's *if necessary* game is TBD on time and TV.
As a programming note, Duke is going to have interviews for us tomorrow morning and I'll be able to get there, so stories will follow from there. For super regional coverage ... I might be able to make it up there for the Friday game. I'd love to get some live coverage of this team, but that's kind of schedule-dependent at this point. Also, as I think most of yall know, I cover Wake Forest also, so I'll have to be back for their super regional, which starts Saturday.

I'm not a scout but from a media perspective he's very easy to work with and a lot more candid than most college coaches. He actually thinks about questions and gives non-coach-speak answers.

Pulling hard for Duke and Wake to get to the CWS. Hard not to pull for Wake living in King NC where Hartle is from and Kenner lives 15 min away.
Can't help but note the stark contrast in Omaha experiences of the 3 ACC schools left:
Duke -- 3 CWS appearances, 0 titles, last trip in 1961
WF -- 2 CWS appearances, 1 title, which was 1955
UVA -- 5 CWS appearances, all since 2009, won title in 2015, last went to CWS in 2021
I think WF and UVA are the only current ACC members with a baseball national championship. I know N.C. State claims the 2021 one they got kicked out of and UNC has been to 11 without winning one. Pretty sure Miami and Louisville don't have a title. Maybe Georgia Tech has won one with all the studs they've had?
