2022 NBA Draft discussion

Ramey .made all Big 12 as a junior. He is a significant upgrade over Blakes and Schutt, and way more experienced than Mitchell. A downgrade from Keels, but that ship has sailed.
Got to ask . How do you know he’s and upgrade over either? Blake’s barely played as a freshman and Schutt has yet to play in one college game . Experience wise yes . Maybe defense wise as well . His point and assist and rebounds aren’t eye popping but I wanted him for experience to help out Roach ever since he entered the portal .

I'm hearing the Illinois guard Grandison is a possibility. 6-6 senior averaged around 9.6 ppg. 41 percent from 3 started 23 games. Illinois is going to be loaded so he wouldn't have started this year.

Honestly, I'd have been satisfied with picking up Ramey and Grandison. Glad to have Proctor. He's a great talent. But this isn't fixing all of Duke's issues.

Now I know how the Cleveland Indians fans felt when they looked at the roster in Major League

Remember we lost Baker and Keels/Green. Proctor is a stud but moving up a high school junior is a curious move. A good one if it doesn't scare away transfers. Get Ramey and we are set.

Why is Duke now synonymous with players leaving both college AND high school early

You guys are gonna be super young next year. One experience player in the starting lineup and 4 freshmen (one of which should be a senior in high school.)

It sounds like Proctor intends to enter the 2023 NBA draft. Any chance Whitehead, Lively, or Filipowski will stay a second year? Or are they all one-and-done?

It's Duke so Schutt and Blakes will probably test the waters.

Proctor is a year older than his peers. So he is definitely not the norm here. I do think he elevates our roster. I just think we need experience.

Duke just added guard Max Johns from Princeton. Has experience, practice player though probably.

It was proctor or Foster . Proctor made more sense because his over seas play . I got mocked for saying one or the other would reclass. I thought it would be Foster but him and Proctor are the same type of players .

You know what? Let's do it. This guy is talented and just made us better. 2 legit point guards. Get the Texas kid for experience. Schutt may have to wait a year but this is Duke. Let's assemble a superteam and beat some fools. Does this make the best freshman class ever? Geez it's 4 top 10 guys now. If we're gonna lose everybody anyway we might as well stockpile talent.

I get people may be frustrated with the one and done thing but we've been to 3 Elite 8's out of the last 4 seasons (excluding 2020) with 1 Final Four and coming within a few points of 3 Final Fours. Not exactly the best but also pretty damn good. Having talent helps and Duke will be plenty talented next season.

This is big. I like Whitehead but him at the 2 was dicey. College is a guard's game, and now we have 2 really good point guards. Proctor is an 80 percent foul shooter. 6-4 and can play SG and PG. This addition makes us a legit threat. Are we still looking in the portal or does this do it? This certainly makes us more versatile in the backcourt and gives us options if God forbid Roach gets hurt. As much as I like the Texas kid's experience (and still hope he comes but this makes it unlikely) I'd have to think Proctor is better, at least potentially. We got more talented and deeper, if younger, today.

Duke doesn’t need any more players for Christ sakes only five can play at a time.
Please take into consideration this ain’t like in the past you make Blake’s and Schutt sit with out any playing time this upcoming season and they will hit the portal .

Love the move! We will be super young, but will certainly have as much, if not more talent than anyone else in the county. From what I've seen/read about Proctor is he can really shoot the three and he's a taller guard. I'm really excited for next year.

Dear lord..this thread is making me question why I came back to the board LOL holy crap
Ah well. There is a troll trying to stir the pot. Proctor is just rejoining his age group. It was likely either reclass or go straight to the draft next Spring. I have always thought of a troll as a sort of internet peeping tom.

What do you guys think that decision making process looks like for these kids? Despite being in similar situations to many players before them who didn't make the league (insert any number of Duke players who left early only to not make it) they choose to take the chance. Is it people in their ears giving them bad advice? Could they be thinking this is their best shot here and now? Do they just believe they are going to beat the odds?

FWIW I did think Moore would come back, but I never thought Keels would. He gave me the sense that he wasn't really interested in being in college at all. He was just there to play a season of CBB for a top tier program. JMHO.
Agree with everything you say in the last paragraph here. Don't say it too loud though- some thought he was for sure coming back.

I think Keels just heard what he wanted to hear regarding the feedback. There were certainly reasons to come back. There were numerous high profile articles saying he should come back. There was one interview a few weeks ago where he went on for a minute about the NBA and said he was barely thinking about Duke at the moment when asked. That told me he was gone. Obviously he would rather take his chances in the second round than play for Duke another year, even with NIL Not faulting the kid but it is what it is. Many said he was gone after the Kentucky game and I agree. There may have been some doubt, but I don't think it was as close as it seemed. But it's my fault for getting my hopes up.

Keels was never returning . The ones that said he was were not wrong but he heard something from the moment he declared that made him a for sure OAD. No one was really wrong here but keels to me is built in the mold of Gordon that plays for Houston and came from Indiana. Big body that can shoot .
